    Raw:

Snapchat is reserving the right to put its users’ faces in ads, according to terms of service related to its “My Selfie” tool (formerly “AI Selfies”), which allows users and their friends to create AI-generated images trained on their selfies. Users have the option to opt out of this by toggling off a “feature” in the app called “See My Selfie in Ads,” but according to 404 Media’s testing this feature is on by default.

“My Selfie is used to power Generative AI, Cameos and other experiences on Snapchat that feature you, including ads,” a pop up in the Snapchat app says. “My Selfie uses your images and information to do this.”

A support page on the Snapchat website titled “What is My Selfie?” explains further: “You’ll take selfies with your Snap camera or select images from your camera roll. These images will be used to understand what you look like to enable you, Snap and your friends to generate novel images of you. If you’re uploading images from the camera roll, only add images of yourself,” Snapchat’s site says. “After you've successfully onboarded, you may have access to some features powered by My Selfie, like Cameos stickers and AI Snaps. We are constantly adding features and functionality so stay tuned for more My Selfie features.”

After seeing the popup, I searched for instances of people getting ads featuring their own face on Snapchat, and found this thread on the r/Privacy Reddit community where a user claimed exactly this happened to them. In an email to 404 Media, Snapchat said that it couldn’t confirm or deny whether this user was served an ad featuring their face, but if they did, the ad was not using My Selfie images. Snapchat also said that it investigated the claim in the Reddit thread and that the advertiser, yourdreamdegree.com, has a history of advertising on Snapchat and that Snapchat believes the ad in question does not violate any of its policies.

“The photo that was used in the advertisement is clearly AI, however, it is very clearly me,” the Reddit user said. “It has my face, my hair, the clothing I wear, and even has my lamp & part of a painting on my wall in the background. I have no idea how they got photos of me to be able to generate this ad.”

(The Reddit user did not respond to a request for comment. yourdreamdegree.com did not respond to a request for comment.)

“You are correct that our terms do reserve the right, in the future, to offer advertising based on My Selfies in which a Snapchatter can see themselves in a generated image delivered to them,” a Snapchat spokesperson said. “As explained in the onboarding modal, Snapchatters have full control over this, and can turn this on and off in My Selfie Settings at any time.”

Snapchat emphasized that “Advertisers do not have access to Snapchatters’ Gen AI data in any capacity, including My Selfies. Nor do they have access to Snapchatters’ private data, including Memories, that would enable them to create an AI generated image of an individual Snapchatter.”

However, the company did not answer questions about how it could in the future serve ads featuring a user’s face without providing that data to advertisers. Instead, it replied that “Snap currently does not use My Selfies in advertising,” and that “the terms you cited simply reserve the right.”

Worth noting from the original article

Fedora is working around this in their latest packages by beginning to probe SimpleDRM immediately. Fedora / Red Hat though isn't the only ones using Plymouth but is largely in use by all major Linux distributions of the past decade. But in recent years the AMDGPU driver has only continued to grow much larger in supporting newer GPUs and tacking on additional features and optimizations.

This outlines several issues, a key one is outbidding apple for wafer alloc on leading processes. They primarily sell such high margin products that I suppose they can go full send on huge dies with no sweat. Similarly, the 4090's asking price was likely directly related to it's production cost. A chunky boy with a huge l2$.

I like the way Mike Clark frames challenges in semi eng as a balancing act between area, power, freq and performance (IPC); like a chip that's twice as fast but twice the size of its predecessor is not considered progress.

I wish ultra-efficient giga dies were more feasible but it's kind of rough when TSMC has been unmatched for so long. I gather Intel's diverting focus in 18A, and I hope that turns out well for them.

I'm not sure that arm as an ISA (or even RISC) is inherently more efficient than CISC today, particularly when we look at Qualcomm's latest efforts in notebooks, more that Apple have extremely proficient designers and benefit from vertical integration.

Conversly, the apple silicon products ship huge, expensive dies fabbed on leading TSMC processes which sip power relative to contemporaries. You can have excellent power efficiency on a large die at a specific frequency range, moreso than a smaller die clocked more aggressively.

Swipe to navigate back gesture input bug https://imgur.com/a/YOIKbtE

E: fixed in 0.0.75 - thank you MV :) Hey there, I was wondering if anybody else was experiencing this behavior where the swipe to navigate back gesture would register twice within the app, taking you back two steps instead of just one. I'm not sure exactly when this behaviour was introduced, though it persists with today's .72 alpha release. I was to say it came about in the .6X timeframe. I've not found this reported on the github, though I just wanted to check that this isn't a system specific issue before submitting. #1399 may be relevant as it refers to swipe input sensitivity but I think that's more of a gesture threshold matter than input registering twice in the app. My app settings are attached in a photo: ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/9527cb6e-982b-4898-856d-019b4ff08d74.png) and I have a short clip: https://imgur.com/a/YOIKbtE Steps to reproduce: - Using the provided gesture settings in Jerboa - From the home feed, tap into a community name - From the community view, tap into a community post - Swipe left to navigate back to the community view - Observe two steps back in response to a single input Pixel 7, Android 14

Those of you who deadlift semi supinated, do you ever alternate your grip?

You might semi supinate your deadlift grip (one hand over, one under) for comfort & endurance at heavier weights. I believe some competitions even mandate this for safety reasons. Those of you who semi grip, do you ever alternate? If so, have you identified any benefits in doing so? A friend brought this up with me a couple months ago. It was a reasonable ask, and yet I've never thought to switch hands. I try to only use a semi grip when necessary (heavier sets, fewer reps). I've recently started experimenting with switching it around for a few higher volume sets. Is there any benefit from switching long term, or session to session?

    Basically live in here https://imgur.io/a/9zUpPVm

(Managed to sort out embedded images, had to compress them first) Welcome to my shitty, dusty garage gym. Practically all of my kit is from Mirafit and Fitness Superstore (UK). Primarily focused on weightlifting & bodybuilding. Power rack: ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/22b17aef-45d9-45d7-b1d6-1a4873bf5d99.jpeg) Mirafit M100 Half Power Rack with Cable System. It's served me well over the last three years but I'm honestly surprised it hasn't fallen apart. It's no longer up for sale through Mirafit or third party retailers, and I can see why. Mirafit use OEM designs and stick their name on it. If you see a half power rack like mine, maybe stay away from it: ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/b5c4f7dd-b3c5-4f04-b04d-6f6937f804b0.png) The M100 half rack has a lower weight capacity (200KG) than the full M100 (250KG) due to its design. You'll observe a concerning sway with three or more plates a side. It has miraculously survived 180 KG back squats and rack pulls though it's definitely not something I could wholeheartedly endorse as a power rack alone. I went for a half rack at the time due to spatial constraints i.e. not having to delicately manoeuvrer a barbell in the confined garage space I have available. It did come with some bells and whistles, notably the plate-loaded cable / pulley system (with a couple attachments) and incline bench. Power racks with integrated cable systems can be exceptionally versatile provided you have the gear to supplement them: - Lying ham curl with a chain, ankle straps and an incline bench: ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/a1ae3dab-5fee-4ce9-8eed-664a054c3c08.jpeg) - Seated leg extension with a chain, ankle straps and squat box: ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/b5997981-0941-4c1b-8ec8-1313d288c764.jpeg) - Cable pull-down if you have a crossbar to keep you in place: ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/a419c547-52d3-450b-8610-dedde9fb084a.jpeg) Made some minor alterations to the rack: - Cut away some metal on the lower pulley housing preventing the lower cable from moving freely - Cut the wide bar cable attachment to actually fit within the confines of the rack (it was actually too wide before?!) - Picked up some after-market J-hooks to supplement the included barbell holders - Plate storage system (though it's in-line with the barbell(?!); if you don't walk the bar back enough, you'll hit it when you squat): ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/5e01bd59-7743-45ce-a56f-0f4127c9416f.jpeg) I've gotten a tremendous amount of utility of this package as a whole, though it's let down by the overall flimsiness of the rack. If anyone could recommend a newer, sturdier half rack + cable system, I'd love to hear about it. Mirafit's newer half-rack designs (or whichever OEM they use) are much better, but tend to lack the pulley system option. Incline Bench: ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/aaf166ee-ea86-4a31-9b72-da6e21965475.jpeg) Mirafit M150 Decent enough incline bench with a small footprint. Has a total weight total capacity of 260KG and is fairly affordable on its own. The design of this bench makes it somewhat unsuitable for barbell hip thrust from the side, as it has only three 'feet', but generally feels stable for most other exercises. Barbell: ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/cba5bb29-5558-4aff-85f4-6f00646f2671.jpeg) Mirafit M3 7ft 20kg Olympic Barbell (28mm diameter, fine knurl, sprung steel) Lovely bar, no complaints. Generally chalk up for deadlift but it's a pleasure to use either way. Bodypower 7ft 20kg Olympic Barbell (30mm diameter, coarse knurl) Was a decent bar with a very coarse knurl. Would shred you up but it did its job. I've since handed this over to my cousin. 350KG in plates, bunch of quick release collars Flooring: ARK Solid Black Rubber Mat CK (With Hidden Handles) X 4 (12mm thick) This was an afterthought and I deeply regret not having them to begin with. Please ensure you have appropriate flooring for your weights area. Other stuff: - Olympic dubmmell handles - Mirafit Squat box - Spinlock and fixed dumbell pairs - fuck knows how much in standard (1" diam) plates - Dumbbell & barbell storage / stands - Additional cable attachments (handles, bars, ropes) - Chain belt for dips and chin ups - Some old speakers in the corner ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/adba45c6-76f7-4875-bc68-1357a8285b07.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/38baf96c-7388-4168-a1d4-8a46f7f349bf.jpeg) I feel like I'm mostly covered but have made some substitutions. I do more working sets of squat in lieu of a plate-loaded leg press and a few exercises to cover the lack of a hack squat machine, but I haven't been back to a commercial gym since. ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/6afe2176-2012-4467-bc2d-8b7e65c90258.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/3df11bac-5fbd-426f-b6c2-a65b786a8b66.jpeg) ![](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/3c270e03-5953-4d36-b30b-c355ffc82444.jpeg)

    Welcome to Home Gym

Hey there, I wanted to recreate something like Reddit's /r/homegym community over here on Lemmy. It became one of my favourite spots during the lockdown. Despite the price gouging and supply issues, it was amazing to see people's creativity when it came to fitness at home: - We learned effective bodyweight exercises to keep us strong after the gyms shut down (like piston squat, nordic ham curl) - We built power racks out of whatever we had, capable of holding a good couple hundred KGs on a barbell (some excellent woodwork in general) - We improvised equipment and exercises with every day objects (a bunch of jerry cans and rebar for extra tricky front squat) - We got to understand how much you could get done in a modest space with just the essentials A decent home gym can be surprisingly attainable today, particularly with people shifting their own kit now that commercial gyms have reopened. Let's see what you're working with. # Moderators wanted I'm not sure if I'll have enough availability to moderate a community. If anyone would like to take it off my hands, you're more than welcome to.
