can you explain what is your backpacker profile? urban backpacker? hostel hoping? do you need your laptop for professional usage or watch.netflix/movies. ... I'm always curious about why people use a non-essential item.
I am looking at creating my backpacking kit. I just wanted to know what people consider their top items in their backpacking kit that might not be considered "essential" (tent, clothes, cookware, etc) or what they'd recommend looking into to improve the (already great) backpacking/camping experience. Note : alcohol is supposed to be 'non-essential' !

yes, that's the idea : urban backpackers, wilderness backpackers, anyone who embrace the philosophy : ' I just want my lovely backpack '
when i write a text with a line return, the line return dissapear. That's something i really hate with markdown. How i can force a line return in jerboa ?

all backpacking communities are welcome : we offer an alternative to reddit and i'm happy with all these new communities.

i guess you are young and have a very good eye vision : unfortunately, you will understand later that a phone to read long text, watch small videos...becomes less and less possible.

👍👍 fun stories for your fellow backpackers. let us know if that happen !

thanks, this + imgur seems to be the solution not a big deal, but better for some communities based on pictures like backpacking, travel....
if you want to share some tips with the backpacker community, you are welcome !backpacking@lemmy.ml. Have nice trails !
If you travel with only 1 backpack, whether you are a long-term traveller or a hiker, there is a new backpacking community at !backpacking@lemmy.ml every backpacker is welcome

thanks, i will try this with imgur
is it possible to post more than 1 picture with jerboa? with lemmy website ? if not possible, how you can i do it with an alternate method?

it's a multi-usage tablet : you can cut bread, play pingpong, put your butts on it, an umbrella for sun, a mirror.... amazing what you can do with a 12 inch tablet 😁

backpacker can be also a long-term travellers who just want a backpack, hike from time to time, but have also a kind of entertainement when hostel hopping. Depends on your priority indeed
i don't want to make advertising, but i found an affordable product for backpacker : a 12 inch tablet with a weight of 520g. When a 10 inch tablet is 400g, and a 13.3 inch laptop is nearly 1kg, a 12 inch/520g is a good screen size weight/ratio. What do you think ? (Note : no direct advertising for a product, only features and why it could be a good product for backpacker)

have you done a 'lightpack' list on their website?
myself33 1 year ago • 100%
yes, besides purely backpacking discussion, i though it could be great to have some post about some nice place discovery around this world. The backpacking goal is to dream and travel, backpacking is just the way to go to these places
You don't know where to backpack in peru? Vinicunca, also called Montaña de Siete Colores (literally: Mountain of seven colors), is a mountain in the Andes of Peru with an altitude of 5,200 metres (17,100 ft) above sea level Do you want to see more content like this? let me know.

my god, you put all your gears on your dog. shame on you!
a good community should always have a mascot : our mascot will be this little girl with her backpack, just because a backpacker is not always a big man with beard ! So here is the challenge : post a picture of your backpacking trip with the mascot

as far as i understood, there is 'dayhiking, hiking, thru-hiking....'.depending on the length of your hike.
I will associate hiking with mountains and nature
For me, backpacking is more general : city travelling or include electronics and more 'nomadic' way of life, not focussing only on mountains and nature.
The difference/challenge with 'travelling' is to have only a backpack when you are a long-term traveller.
there are other camping/hiking/thru-hiking communities and i would like to know what kind of content you want to see : long-term travel with a backpack? hiking only? what's for you the difference between backpacking and hiking?

nice place to be. You are one the guy in the picture?
in 2022, a french hiker who hike the PCT decided to create the first 3000 km trail in europe. you can follow an introduction in this youtube video. Enjoy : https://youtu.be/wzy8DzsSu5k Note : i'm not the girl on the video, don't send me personal message !

thanks to jerboa, i can easily join and switch to multiple instances. And as it works with mastodon, everybody must find the right instance for himself at the end. No desire to quit definitively beehaw at this point : i hope it's only temporary

that's also the feature i really miss after some days using jerboa.

all the instances suffer from influx of new users and others don't federate because of trolls... Bad decision i think
myself33 1 year ago • 92%
As far as i understood, it's a structural problem : there is only 4 admin/moderators and they want to manage/moderate all maintream communities That's impossible to do, and defederate to lemmy.world send a very bad signal
myself33 1 year ago • 100%

i wrote an open-source software and i know how difficult it is to develop something for open-source ( no money, people complaining...) If you are short in money like me, Give encouragement is the minimum users can do

totally agree. when I ask people why they stay on Facebook, they reply : 'groups' I hope mastodon will integrate 'group' feature.

well, I tried plemora, diaspora, friendica...but the problems is when you begin , with no followers, it's just an empty space. In mastodon, the 'noise' in the local timelines is addictive for beginners.
**Durmitor, montenegro** you can hike through durmitor national park and camp near the lake. Montenegro is a country so diverse and stunning.
my feedback after using Lemmy for 2 weeks on SMARTPHONE : 1. Annoying menu when you write ':' on a post. 2. a top bar with buttons ' Home' , 'search' 'New post' , 'Inbox', Menu(profile, new community, about...) will be better than just 'Lemmy ...Menu' 3. Text too small when we write a post. should be the same than the text size you use to display a post 4. Under a post : just few buttons as 'reply', 'Edit' and button '...' (advanced menu for 'report', view user profile...) 5. Replace 'preview' with just 'post' . Preview is useless Thank you
I HATE : 1. Users who put 20 hashtags on their toot 2. twitter cross-posting toot 3. bot which pollute timeline with pre-formated stupid toot Let's continue the list !
One of my favorite youtuber about backpacking is "Darwin On The Trail' The quality of his video is good and he do not promote too much gears for money. Always informative. A good source
Just discover this video. You go away for 15 minutes. excellent !!
mastodon is great to talk and discover people but the hashtag approach is hard to find a community. I think lemmy fill the gap. I hope interaction between both platform will be awesome
I just create a community for backpacking. Hope you will enjoy and you will bring your ideas and comment.
