Yep, it's more like assisted living for autistic people though

It’s faster and it’s not Synapse. I could serve hundreds of people on a single Pi while I would need to order a VPS with 4GB RAM to serve the same amount of people. I know there’s better server software out there, but it’s nowhere near Synapse. XMPP simply doesn’t care, clients and servers are well built and almost every client uses OMEMO and honestly I had a lot of decryption errors on Matrix and if you used something else than matrix.org you’d be screwed. It’s simply just better, because it’s faster and has a bigger ecosystem. The only thing that’s not cool about XMPP is that the federated userbase is kinda small. The biggest non-federated XMPP server is WhatsApp and that’s kinda sad. Also the protocol is nice, because most clients keep a socket open to listen for new messages and this is especially nice in the college WiFi environment some of my friends are in where a timer is set after bedtime which would wait until all sockets are closed which doesn’t include XMPP so messaging with my friends after bedtime is still possible.

I really like the fediverse and I couldn't imagine it blowing up like this 10 years ago. We've come a long way since then.

Wanna know what /u/spez can't replace? Deleting data. Just delete all your accounts and let everyone leave or don't participate in any subreddit and make sure the front page is flooded with posts exposing Reddit. Engaging in conversations as if nothing happened is exactly what Reddit wants. In fact blow the whole thing so big that advertisers would jump off as well. If nobody is moderating at all Reddit will just replace it with staff or pro-spez mods. It's such a big problem and it's like they came all prepared. You really have to choose the nuclear option in this war.

Actually no, that's the problem. Mods that have been replaced are pro-spez and not moderating at all would produce a Twitter-like scenario. Investors would still invest for a while until they really jump off. Reddit would be a broken platform, but loyal users wouldn't jump ship. I still have a hard time convincing friends moving away from Twitter even though it turned into a Nazi shithole like Gab, Truth Social or Parler.

The irony lies within the fact that the blackouts don't really harm Reddit as much as anyone likes to believe. As Rossmann already pointed out that protesting for a few days doesn't do anything to the platform. Overloading the site and making investing into Reddit look bad and scaring off investors would hurt /u/spez. For him we're just noise and mods are dolls that can be easily replaced with Reddit admins. It's such a mess right now and I wish /u/spez a cakeday in his arse.

    Welcome to this community!

Hi, This community is dedicated to all the Rockchip-based consoles from companies like Powkiddy, Anbernic or Odroid. Most of them can be found on shops like Ali Express as 10.000 games in one consoles, but are real treasures once you see that these consoles have a lot of potential. Odroid ships consoles that can be built on your own and ship without any ROMs or an operating system. This community is for helping new or experienced people, showing off your work like ports or homebrew games or just vibing with the community in general. We hope you'll like this place! Before you go and make your first post make sure you take a look at the sidebar for a quick rundown on the rules. Have fun! 👾

Thanks for having me here. It's quite unfortunate what happened to lemmy.ml and I don't want this instance to face the same fate. I've been a tchncs user since the golden LSW days and had my first ever "fediverse" (diaspora) account and my first Mastodon account on here. tchncs really is at the forefront whenever it comes to federated technologies. Milan, you'll get a fair share of donations soon, I don't want this place to go away.
