AI "art" removes the hurdle for the wealthy of actually having talent to produce "art", while simultaneously removing the artist's ability to produce wealth from their talents.
Everytime someone shares an AI generated video, song, picture, etc., I cringe a little. Its just not good, or at best, anything that couldn't be produced by a reasonably capable artist, but hey at least its free, right?

You can reliably quickly tell if a news source is credible depending on how many appeals to emotion and superfluous adjectives/descriptors are found in their articles.
A lot of it is about parsing multiple sources, and extrapolating the data from the spin.

Israel has killed approximately FIVE TIMES as many kids under the age of ten alone than the entire Israeli casualty count from Oct 7.
This is not defense, its extermination. I have no idea how anyone can look at the data and take it any other way.

People need to stop seeing a "balanced budget" as the top measure of a responsible government.
A country is not a household. They are not going to repo Manitoba if we have too much debt. The vast, VAST majority of countries carry debt, and carrying debt is preferable to austerity measures that gut social programs and supports in service of a balanced budget.

People need to be more media litterate and more skeptical of news stories instead of taking them at face value, regardless of Deepfakery. So many articles that pass as "news" are filled with opinion and adjectives designed to ellicit an emotional response.
People need to learn to look at a piece of information and ask questions.
- Who wants me to be reading this?
- What emotions (if any) is this trying to ellicit?
- What objective information can be taken from this story?
- What are the sources for that objective information? Are they reliable?
Etc. Etc. Etc.
Even a Fox News article can have some insight into the goings on if you can parse the information from the spin. Deepfakes are just going to be another level of spin, but if people are informed enough, they'll be able to logically differentiate between a real news story and a damning fake video.
However, that doesnt solve the age old problem of willfully ignorant people and the confirmation bias...

We had a really promising, progressive city councillor run for Mayor who basically tanked their campaign by making investment in cycling infrastructure one of their main platforms.
So, instead, we got a business-as-usual developper friendly mayor who will continue to do nothing to address public transit issues, or improvr cycling infrastructure besides painting a few lines on busy roads.

“It’s the entitlement that really gets me. The feeling that someone else’s life, their mistakes, their trauma, their STORY is just free for the taking because it was in the news,”
This. So. Much.
Entitlement is the perfect word for it. In all the sensationalism of modern news reporting, we are guilty of conflating news and entertainment. We forget that there are actual human beings at the center of these stories, people who deserve to be able to decide whether or not their stories get exploited to further enrich someone else.

I've been saying this for years. These were simple, efficiently built homes to account for a huge influx in housing needs. Why it took us this long to remember a solution that already worked is wild to me.
Sure, there is less space to build in on cities proper, but with how much we have progressed with WFH, it shouldnt be as much of an issue to build outside the core.

Weird that AI isnt replacing things like management, CEOs, stock investors, accountants... you know, jobs that tend to be about numbers and efficiency, which you would think AI would excel at.
Instead, we have it skirting copyright by stealing other people works and changing it just enough to not be a direct copy.

The issue is trying to use genres as specifically as possible instead of being a broad category that covers a wide range of music.
Metal is the worst for this. The vast, vast majority of people would call everything from Black Sabbath to Metallica to Pantera to Death to Behemoth "metal", but the genre snobs need to differentiate it all for some reason.
Yet, we're perfectly okay to call everything from Blue Oyster Cult to Fleetwood Mac to Nickleback "rock".

The Museum of History in Canada has a cool solution to this regarding some of their indigenous artifacts.
They either come to an agreement with the people who the historical item belongs to for the museum to keep it, or they give it back with either a placard explaining why the item is no longer at the museum, or reproduction in its place with a sign explaining that its a repro.

Nah. I mean, it can happen, and really only with bedbugs, but only if you're not careful.
Roaches have no interest in being on your person, so.its not like they're going to hitch a ride home with you. If I were to, say, take home a cardboard box from a heavily infested unit, then maybe (they loooove corrugated boxes), but that fall under "not careful".
Bed bugs are pretty much the same. I mean, if you give a bear hug to a mattress that is heavily infested, then there is a chance that one could make it onto you and you bring it home, but theyre actually not that great at holding on (they are not like ticks where they latch on).
My only precaution is an ocular patdown of myself when I leave a unit, and as soon as I get home, my uniform goes into the dryer on High for 40 minutes to kill anything in the off chance I brought a bed bug or an egg home with me.

I dont know if its really "Lesser Known", but pest control is a very interesting field to work in and isnt often talked about in many circles.
Its essentially future proof, as we're always going to have pests. Its one of those jobs where its the same enough every day that you get a little better, but different enough from call to call to keep you challenged and stay interested.
I wished that I had even considered it an open back in High School and gone to college/university to actually study pests in an academic setting, and be able to participate in some of the groundbreaking work taking place currently.

I always thought that tides were a really underutilized source of energy.
I mean, look at the Bay of Fundy. The equivalent of all the water in all the rivers in the entire world cycles in and out every single day. Thats a lot of movement and a ton of potential energy there.
This thing punches waaaaay above its weight class in terms of price to playability. It is actually stupid how much better it is than my LP. Neck heel is beautiful, completely open access to the upper frets. A nice, chunky, matte neck, too. It also has a coil-tap-but-not-coil-tap on the tone knob push pull that gives a little more bite and chime single coil character but with minimal output loss. Another thing I really appreciate is that Yamaha took the time to wire the pots correctly so when I turn them "forward" (counterclockwise), the volume goes up. Some other, bigger companies do not always take the time to do this. All in all, a solid guitar for a great price. Highly recommend giving it a look if you are in the market for a versatile HH guitar.
Finally found a Danelectro Chicken Salad for a resonable price (ie pre-JHS hype prices). Definitely a good Vibe circuit, but the casing is fragile. Do not fall for the hype and buy one over $100. At that price, you could get a BBE Soulvibe, which is just as good IMO, and has a sturdier case. The Yamaha CH100 Stereo chorus was a neat find. Very much a thick, lush, 80s style stereo chorus. The manual and width knobs are pretty interactive making for some very cool sounds. Absolutelty S P A C I O U S in S T E R E O.

I bought this bike six years ago as my first bike, and it only had ~22,000kms on it, not bad for a 35 year old (at the time) bike. Its been my bike that I have learned on, not just rising, but hard lessons in general. Some of these include: - Do not tarp your bike as soon as you are done riding, the tarp will melt on the exhaust pipes. - Check your clutch cable regularly to see if its wearing out so it doesn't snap on you in the middle of traffic (and also the day before your road test). - It is very hard to find a clutch cable on short notice on a Saturday evening. - Oil changes require a crush washer, or you will leak oil. A lot of oil. - On that note, it is recommended that oil changes take place a little more frequently than once every five years. - You should bring your bike in for a tire change while the tires can still hold air for longer than 2 hours. - Bring your battery inside in the winter so water inside doesn't freeze, and you wont have to boost your battery every 2 weeks. - Also read the battery instructions carefully and don't overfill it, causing the battery juice to leak out onto your pipes and rusting them up. Despite all my lack of awareness in maintenance and general care, this this is still going strong. So far all I've had to replace is the clutch cable (mentioned above), a headlamp, and a fuse. It is a testament to how well these old UJM bikes were built that its still running despite my less than regular maintenance schedule.
Back in 2016, two trades happened that seemed like seismic events in the NHL that... never really impacted any of the teams involved in the way that they thought it would: - PK Subban is traded from the Montreal Canadiens to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Shea Weber - Taylor Hall is traded from the Edmonton Oilers to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for Adam Larsson At the time, these felt like franchise defining moves that would have immediate impacts, but ultimately didn't really move the needle in any significant way. - Taylor Hall wont a Hart and helped the Devils get to the playoffs for the first time in six years, but then missed the playoffs for the next two and was traded to Arizona in 2019 for Kevin Bahl, Nick Merkley, Nate Schnarr, and the pick that NJ used to get Dawson Mercer - Adam Larsson did help the Oilers on defense, but ultimately never got farther than the 2nd round with Edmonton. He was taken by Seattle in the 2021 expansion draft - PK helped Nashville make the Stanley Cup finals his first year with his new club, but fell short of winning it all, losing to the Penguins in six games. He was traded to New Jersey in 2019 to free up cap space. - Shea Weber's time in Montreal was plagued by injury. He did help the Habs to their first Stanley Cup Finals appearance in nearly 30 years with their Cinderella run in the 2021 playoffs, but lost the series in five games. Weber has been LITRetired ever since that run. How did you guys feel about those trades when they happened? Ambivalence? Excitement?
Here's a nice and easy cast iron recipe (especially nice when fresh peaches are in season). Peach Cobbler: - 1 Cup Flour - 1 Cup White Granulated Sugar - 3 tsp Baking Powder - pinch of Salt - 1/4 Cup of Butter - About 6 Peaches 1. Preheat Oven to 375°F 2. Slice peaches into 12 equal segments, remove skin, place in a bowl. If you like, spinkle some sugar & cinnamon to your liking (I think they're fine on their own). 3. In another bowl, combine dry ingredients. Add milk and whisk until smooth. 4. In a 10"-12" Cast Iron pan, melt 1/4 Cup of Butter on low heat. 5. Once butter is melted, pour batter into pan, then pour fruit on top. Spread fruit around, but don't mix in with the batter too much. 6. Bake in oven at 375°F for 30-45 minutes until golden brown on top. 7. Serve with vanilla ice cream.
I'm still new to this, so I havent been able to find an Instance for guitar amps. I recently scored this 1958 Gibson GA8 Gibsonette and I'm kind of really stoked on it. Its got a pretty unique circuit that uses 2 6v6 in a parallell single ended configuration instead of the usual push-pull. Less volume, but boy howdy does it get greasy. Anyone else have some unique amps that they want to share with the class?
