When were they there before? Why did they leave? ETA on completion, maybe before June 2025? I'll be there and would love for them to be complete by then.

I know right? I mean if they colluded to lower advertising prices through collective agreement that would be something. Especially if they had an internal forcing mechanism to ensure compliance.
But um, they set out voluntary guidelines they suggested everyone follow to protect each member's own best interests, and decided to spend zero dollars to buy nothing, which is a far far cry from trying to spend zero dollars to buy something.
What an ultra-maroon.

I won't agree or disagree with the speed comment, you could very well be correct.
As for powering by solar in Japan (and any other currently electrified system), I would guess that's easily done right now by changing how their power is generated; and that doesn't require a change in the system, just the generation. In japan around 66% of their rail is already electrified (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Railway_electrification_in_Japan look at the summary box showing total miles and electrified miles). So I'm still skeptical that a conveyor system is the answer vs adding more electrified rail in that same strip of land and powering it with solar generation. But again, maybe there's something to be gained with such a different engineering solution per my OP.
And while you're spot on for the US (less than 1% from my google search) a conveyor won't solve it sadly unless there's something about that which makes it cheaper to deploy then adding a catenary system to our current railways.
jumperalex 3 months ago • 80%
Hmmmm I'm still skeptical mind you, but hear me out ...
What if there's benefits to be had by the traction motors being stationary, the electrical connections being fixed instead of moving contacts (read: not 3rd rail or overhead catenary), and the simplicity of containers not being all connected for easy removal from the conveyor without disrupting the movement of other containers?
Mind you I can't imagine how this system can operate at reasonable speeds vs cargo trains that apparently hit 100km/h in Japan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-speed_Freight_Trains_(Japan) ) but surely my imagination isn't good enough.

Yup. This is my guy, my VA rep. I remember getting either a mailer, or a newsletter, or whatever, update from his office talking about him starting this. Thought it was great and locked in my support. I agree we need to keep flowing in young blood into congress, but Don is still doing good work and doing his best to keep relevant.

I wonder if it's a factor of being up in free open air, as opposed to being say, 50-75m away a few feet off the ground so the ground can help reflect the sound a bit more.
Well, like I Said, glad it's working either way :)
jumperalex 11 months ago • 100%
Vid says altitude is 75m, that isn't THAT high. How do they not hear these drones? Is the sound really dissipating that much? Are their ears just deaf from gun fire and artillery?

You're right of course, nor was I making any judgements. I loved seeing it! It made me smile. As did the quintessential "scowling french waiter" standing 15ft in front of us on the other side of the side walk, with apron and and all. And despite a previous poster's comment about their infamous cultural rudeness, these slightly overweight, non-french speaking Americans didn't experience any overt rudeness at all. If they were bad mouthing us quietly in french they did a great job of hiding it. [shrug]
I would visit Paris again in a heartbeat; though I would never fly Air France nor pass through CDG if you paid me. Such a horrible experience. Guess we'll fly BA into LHR and take the chunnel or a ferry for the experience.

Jokes aside, I swear they really do walk around with baguettes in hand. 3 days in Paris, sitting at multiple cafes, and we saw it in the morning, at lunch, in the evening. Men, Women, Children, well dressed, poorly dressed (for a Parisian), black, white, brown, blue, green, every combination in between, we'd see someone walking around with baguettes. I've lived in multiple cities and visited even more in the US and Europe. Never have I seen so many people walking around with bread!

I'm of the opinion that waiting until the last possible moment is an intentional feature (in general) and NOT an accident or indicator of incompetence. Bare with me here, because I DO agree there's a lot of incompetence, but also ...
They are constantly testing the political winds, the media coverage, the social media reactions, and very much so, their donor's reactions to all of the other reactions. So they float balloons, see what happens, adjust, rinse repeat.
Or said another way, the public and private outrages are a feature, not a bug. How else would they know how far they can push things. It fucking sucks, and is a horrible way to govern, and my take makes them even scummier.

There are of course a myriad of reasons for which you'll get a lot of ideas. Some have already suggested running memtest.
I'd suggest a full hardware "scrub". Open the case, clean out all dust with a blower (don't forget the PSU!!!), wiggle or remove-reinsert all electrical connections, especially CPU and RAM, but also GPU and expansion cards, storage (data and power), etc etc. Basically if you can plug it in, give it a wiggle to break any oxide layers or as I said remove-reinsert. Might not even hurt to double check your CPU and GPU thermal paste contact if it's old and might have dried out.
Then double check your overall air flow. Your CPU might be cool as a cucumber, but maybe your m/b is getting too hot from lack of air flow. Ironically its possible that a cool CPU = slower fan = less airflow around SB chips and power chips.
I was having escalating browser freezes from random weekly to random daily to random hourly or worse, on a system that was stable for years. I did the above and added another case fan for better MB flow. Now my CPU runs cooler, the CPU fan runs even slower, and I've been rock steady for 2 weeks without a single freeze-up.
There is now a Chrome extension in development (1.1 released) that lets you sync your account balances from YNAB to PL to save you the trouble. What's [ProjectionLab ](https://projectionlab.com/) you ask? It's a natural planning successor to YNAB. Once you have your current house in order it's time to start planning for the future and PL is awesome at it. I have no affiliation other than a very happy user. The dev of PL is very responsive on Discord as is the extension dev.
If this means they won't come to VA I'm all for it. Let's hope DC, MD, and VA all tell the Commanders to pay up or shut up. No taxpayer money for stadiums!!!
