This isn't vegan related but was wondering if anyone here has read "A History of Modern Iran" by Ervand Abrahamian and could share some thoughts on it? Saw this book get recommended over on Lemmygrad a while ago and have read the first couple of chapters so far.

I had an account on .world a long while ago now and pissing off the anti-vegan trolls was something I occasionally loved to indulge in.
I considered it an "everyone wins" situation: I get to have a laugh, the trolls get to interact with another person (unlike the real world) and a lot of the bystanders get to see just how pathetic they are.
That said I understand how it gets old fairly quickly when you have to constantly deal with that shit as a mod on a vegan community. I'm genuinely grateful to hamid, Potato, and the other mods/admins here for not only setting this place up but taking care of it, and it genuinely sucks that there's a loud group of people who really can't take ten seconds to read the sideboard so they don't constantly break rules, or are just flat out here to troll.

You couldn't pay me to eat dairy products again. My class went on a trip to a dairy farm about 15 years ago, they actually had us milk the cows ourselves. Sickening.

Going to a vegan "meetup" irl and everyone there eats honey, uses second hand leather, or has cheat days and look at me like I have two heads when I say I don't do any of this ¯_(ツ)_/¯

The BBC are a terrible "news" organisation. They pushed propaganda so that the public would be okay with supporting the invasion of Iraq, forbade black staff members from attending BLM events, doxxed the father of a sick child for criticising the prime minister, removed boos from a Boris Johnson speech and replaced them with applause, and have pedalled right wing propaganda by uncritically platforming antimaskers and transphobes.

My style is typically painting and mixed media, sometimes I like to make small sculptures to get my point across. Honestly really just depends how I feel and what I'm in the mood to create lol.
And wow, that show looked like it was amazing. I've never seen a Kahlo exhibition or show in person but it's definitely on my to-do list.

I've been thinking of making some animal rights related artwork lately. My main influences as an artist are Francisco de Goya and Frida Kahlo and my style of artwork is very much political related and the kind where I want my audience to really think about the world. I'm trying to come up with some ideas as to how I could make it work.

I remember in the final Harry Potter book, after Voldemort is defeated Peeves (the ghost thing) sings a song about how Voldy has "gone moldy." Yet another thing he and Joanne have in common these days.

Grenfell was one of the very first things that began to radicalise me. Absolutely evil that dozens of innocent people had to die so that landlords could save pennies.

I agree with their stance. I also have to take non-vegan medicine where there is no vegan alternative. This is out of my scope and practice and don't think it lessens my opinions against animal testing and abuse. I hope one day, preferably sooner than later, the medical industries stop relying on animal abuse for medicine testing.

One of my favourite ways to piss off American liberals is to point out that "Reaganomics" actually started under Carter.

From what I've heard the US in particular is pretty lax with the term "plant based." It basically means nothing over there. Where I live is pretty shit too but here you aren't allowed to call something plant based if it has animal parts/secretions.

The language barrier is partly why I prefer vegan too. My second language is Spanish, I am planning on living in a Spanish-speaking country and the most commonly used translation for "plant based" that I am aware of is "de origen vegetal" which is more of a food label than a personal one. It's easier to just say "vegana" lol.

I am Jewish. Absolutely no one has discriminated against me for being Jewish over what's happening to the Palestinians. I am sure it does happen, once in a while. I'm also sure that anyone who does that is a right winger co-opting the Palestine movement and doesn't actually care about it. I have had no problems finding dates or making friends since last October.

I did not have any TVP to make carne de soja with and collard greens and farofa are all but unavailable in my country, had to make do with what I had.
Exactly what it says in the title pretty much. A feijoada inspired dish with pão de queijo. Feijoada: 2 cups black beans 1/2 cup chopped carrots 1 chopped bell pepper 2 chopped potatoes About 1/2 of a tomato 1 tsp paprika 1 tsp cumin 1/2 tsp coriander 3 cups veg stock I cooked the black beans in a pot then added the bell pepper, carrots, and potatoes, then thr tomato and spices. I let it simmer for about an hour however it didn't thicken that much so I'm assuming I added too much water/stock to the pot, no big deal I'll just use less next time. I served this with brown rice. Pão de queijo: 1 cup tapioca flour 1/4 cup nooch 1/2 tsp saly 1/2 soy milk 1 potato I preheated the oven to 190 then mixed the tapioca flour, nooch, and salt in a bowl. I added the soy milk and stirred until doughy before adding the mashed potato and stirring until combined. You are supposed to roll the dough into balls but I couldn't be bothered so I just scooped it out onto the tray lol, for that reason the presentation is off but it tasted just as good so again it's whatever. I baked for about 25 minutes.

Whoa, this looks amazing! Nice one!
Looong time lurker, first time posting here. I used ChatGPT for soybean recipes and this is one of the dishes it came up with: 1 cup soybeans 1 inch piece of ginger, grated 2 pureed tomatoes 1 tbsp curry powder 1 tsp turmeric powder 1 teaspoon cumin 1/2 cup coconut milk Recipe also listed onion and garlic as ingredients but garlic causes my GERD to flare up and I don't really like the taste of onions so I left them both out. I pre-cooked the soybeans before preparing the curry paste. I cooked the tomato puree, cumin, ginger, turmeric, and curry powder in a splash of water for about 5 minutes until it thickened and then added the soybeans, stirring them until completely coated. I poured in the coconut milk and let it simmer for about 10 minutes before seasoning and serving it. Not pictured is the brown rice I served it with. Overall a relatively quick, simple and nice tasting dish.
