I switched instances just so I could be on one that had downvotes because I passionately believe downvotes give immediate power to of self moderation to the users. However, I'm very light on downvoting. I only downvotevote stuff like the OP was talking about or if something is technically incorrect and damaging to a thread. But again I'm very light on downvoting, as I was on Reddit before. I usually ignore something that I simply don't agree with or think is too silly, etc.

I can’t believe you’ve done this

Even crazier is Apollo had this awesome feature for zooming in on pictures. You could double tap to zoom in, then double tap again to resize to fit the screen. But then you could also double tap and hold on the second tap and drag up or down to zoom in and out like you can in the Maps app. That I used all the time. Also, Apollo would let you zoom in really really close - double tapping would get you to a normal zoom level but then you could just keep pinching to zoom in quite far. Love what you're doing, keep up the great work.

I don’t think you’re far off because obfuscated code usually has less structured variable references.

The other day, I started to not be able to comment, only on some replies, without applying a language, which I selected to be English. Other replies, let me keep it Select language/untouched. This is in comments though, not for posts.

Lol it’s USD. But I have 4 phone lines, 3 watch lines, and 1 iPad line. I think that’s why it’s at $40?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yes, I tried Mint for a little bit and was very excited but I had poor signal for the short period I tested it. I admittedly did not go everywhere I go for business and travel so it's not a fair review. Around where are you located, do you find good signal? Is it comparable to mainstream carriers?

Lol, that’s funny.
Privacy is a service that you link to your bank account and then you can write virtual cards with custom limits on the fly.

My dude, you have tons of upvotes. You’re doing great! Why so hard on yourself??
(I, for one, do like karma. And…you may want to sit down for this, folks…Lemmy has karma)

Who’d you switch to?

Yeah, but I don’t want to pay the extra $40. I use Privacy so I don’t have to give my debit card info.

Yeah, I hear ya. To be honest, I’ve had AT&T, T-Mobile, then went to Verizon for a year, then back to T-Mobile in the span of about five years (I had AT&T, since they were Cingular before the switch to T-Mobile the first time). Looks like the three choices we have aren’t the greatest in the world…

I know it's negligible, and certainly not covering the $40. It's just the way I like to use my funding, cramping my style, so to speak (and removes choice). But as for the stealing of the credit cards, I know, I hate giving my numbers across the Internet. That's why I started to use Privacy - it’s not credit but at least I don’t have to give my numbers out.

My friend, please, it's been a good day, let's not mention Verizon (there's…history there).

I would prefer that, unfortunately, it is real.

Same. I hate giving raw credit card numbers out. That’s why I use Privacy - it links to your bank account and you can generate a credit card number on the fly, with limits.

Someone else was also just saying this. That’s awesome. So it’s working for you?
hemmes 1 year ago • 100%
Exactly. That's why I was saying maybe I'm overreacting because I kind of get it… But still.
Maybe I shouldn’t be as pissed as I am but, for me, I like using my Apple card for autopay because I get 3% back with T-Mobile charges. What I like to do is use my CCs to max my rewards / cash back and then pay off my card each month. Maybe I'm overreacting, but I’m not happy about this. Of course I don’t want to pay an additional $40 a month on my phone bill so yes, I’m switching autopay to a Privacy card, but F—, man. Okay, I’m done lol Edit 6/6/1023: So I made a new virtual card but when I add it to my T-Mobile account the site adds it and says it’s not supported for the discount. They’re going to force me to enter a physical debit card or bank account or pay an additional $40/month. T-Mobile really has been sucking with their service strength in NY. But they’re doing very well at driving me crazy.

I would hope, like you say, those larger instances would naturally realize larger donations with the higher user volume.
But sure, each instance can make the choice to inject ads in their users’ feeds. Larger instances may have promos with companies like video game publishers or movie studios. But I think the natural infrastructure that the Fediverse provides, limits this from the crazy ad levels we see in today's failing mainstream, centralized social media companies.

It's much more cost-effective, for everyone involved, in a decentralized platform. All those big company server costs are broken up into dozens eventually hundreds and thousands of different servers just like World Wide Web itself, with websites for each community, right? Communities chip in to buy Little League shirts for their town baseball teams, we set up websites for our book sales and bake sales, school PTAs are able to accomplish great things because their parent communities can afford to help in smaller circles.
Decentralization doesn't just decentralize the data. It also decentralizes the semantics, the funding, etc.

All this talk about “well, the UX”, “if the servers can”, “but the big companies”, bla, bla, bla. I’m here right now. There is nothing else as far as I’m concerned. Twitter and Reddit are dead to me and I absolutely love Mastodon and Lemmy. I quit Facebook many years ago and never found an alternative for that, outside of starting a shared photo group on iOS with my family.
You better start believing in fediverse alternatives…you’re in one.
Looks like the admin for kbin.lol has some pretty valid gripes with the current status of Kbin. I have to agree, you can tell the platform is not up to speed at all. Kbin looks visually great but the backend just isn't there. Check out his statement, it's worth the read.
