You'll flip when you find out that there are circumstances in which they are mandated by law to share your personal information. That stuff is regulated to hell, and rallying resources to help people sleeping rough is a good thing in my book. Maybe OP doesn't need the help but the other 99% of the people living on their cars are at huge risk to life. Starvation, hypothermia, malnutrition, human trafficking, prison, just to name a few.

Counterpoint: masturbation is genocide and menstruation is murder as it is a failure to bring a life to the world. Therefore everyone beyond puberty is guilty of murder by default.

Still by that standard, there are larger sail ships today. Just not cargo ships, but cruise ships. It's still a manipulative statement.

Yes, you can share location, the widgets aren't as fancy as Google integration with everything.
-
Not feasible without the constant data harvesting in the background, which it doesn't do. It doesn't log your every move as Google does. Privacy vs surveillance, will always be at odds.

Depending on the area. In my country public transportation is way better on OSM than on Gmaps. Oftentimes Gmaps won't even have large structures like train stations or bus terminals. It depends on users and contributors.

It's also not the largest. During the age of sail one of the largest shipping boat was almost 8 times larger than this one. They are just playing the technicality of being wind powered and not a sail ship to con startup investors out of their money. But there have been even larger sail cruise ships. It's just the game tech bros play, reinventing the wheel but coming up with a catchy marketing name that looks like disrupting the status quo to bait capital injection.

It's a crash log, not an error log. It's probably dumping the entire memory stack to text instead of a bin dump every time it crashed. I would also suspect the crash handler is appending to the log instead of deleting old crashes and just keeping the latest. At several dozen gigas of RAM it would just take a couple of game crashes to fill up the 300GB.

The insult is the implication. “I wouldn't tell a backwoods country to be like us, [but we should]. So instead I will tell you that you are not like US [because I actually think that you are backwoods], and you should be like us to [so you aren't like those backwoods countries anymore].”

Probably logistics. They had hacked the smartphones, so Hezbollah decided that they would turn to older tech that was harder to hack or intercept. But of course this presented a great opportunity, as there aren't that many maker of pagers left in the world. So the Mossad probably interdicted the delivery process to tamper with them and insert explosives.
Lithium batteries don't explode, they fizz really quickly into a flame. The incidents reported included an explosion, and in several occasions they injured not just the user but several people around them. EDIT: apparently they didn't even have Lithium batteries, just use regular alkalines. So there was no way to make them explode without inserting an explosive and rewiring the device. Alkalines also just tend to leak when they overheat, not explode. To make them explode you have to feed them with high current, which the pager doesn't have space or circuitry inside to induce that, and it is still very rare even when you do overcharge them.

I've seen poorly raised dogs mauling children. 100% the fault of the owners for being dipshits, but even domesticated animals are a risk. An animal is an animal, we are not masters of the universe, we can't control them. Just, be wise and learn how to properly train and socialize a dog. Even my lovely poodle who had never even growled in 6 years, once threatened to bite another dog in the park because the owner thought it was fine to leave him off the leash and it came at her aggressive and too fast. She was fine with the other properly socialized dogs, but this one overstepped the boundaries and almost got hurt. The owner liked to claim she had trained her baby, but there she was screaming like a hysterical idiot and being completely ignored by her perfect angel who thought he could prowl the world. That dog got lost for two days not much later.

Still wild. An animal doesn't stop being a wild animal because it was raised in captivity, I think. The opposite is domesticated. So, domesticated like dogs and cows, raised in captivity (like most animals in zoos) or raised in the wilderness. Travis was most definitely not a domesticated animal.

It's extremely obvious because the lettering shadows have shadows themselves and they don't match. It's simultaneously trying to be the flat image and the CRT soft afterglow of the shadows at the same time, when in real life you'd only have one or the other. It's also giving a headache.

Real state is not just about the square area, or even the construction on top, but mostly about location. The cost is not about how big or luxurious of a mansion it is, but because it means living surrounded by other millionaires. If you scout the area, you notice it is one of the biggest houses around that place and the price, while outrageous even by the area standards, is not that far up next one, and about half of the most expensive one.

When dogs do that relocation of food is because they don't feel safe eating at the bowl. Usually because it is in a corner or the shape of the bowl blocks their peripheral view. They are skittish of where they eat, since it is instinctively a vulnerable act. Same reason they might get zoomies after pooping, you want to be as far away as possible as the smell gives away your position, predator stuff. Relocate the bowl to a location with a wider view of the room, not giving their back to open spaces. And choose a wide but shallow bowl that lets them see what is in their surroundings as they eat.

Compromise can only exist when there's at least one coincidence of interest. A greater good or similar common value that motivates the parties to negotiate over the aisle on individual issues. The principles, values, goals and even worldview of the two party system in the US is radically polarized. Which makes it almost impossible to negotiate a compromise. Right now, the few policy issues they agree on are nonessential points (supporting Israel, e.g.) that don't weight the balance and exist out of pure accident. It exist on either side for completely different reasons. When one side argues that some people deserves to die, it is hard to negotiate when the protection of life and dignity is above all for the other side. But compounded by the fact that they don't even agree what life, person hood and dignity even mean.

Friendly reminder that pirates didn't usually stole gold. Piracy was stealing shipping goods, then selling them for profit at some port. Digital piracy is thus defined as acquiring, and then distributing for profit, media that you don't own the copyrights of. Ad blocking is categorically not piracy.
dustyData 2 weeks ago • 59%
Piracy is distributing media you don't own. How does blocking ads equates with acquisition and distribution of media you don't own? It doesn't.
Evading advertisement is not piracy.
dustyData 2 weeks ago • 85%
Nope, you're not taking anything away from the advertiser. They are free to display but they're not entitled to being watched. You don't get penalized for ignoring or closing your eyes during trailers at the cinema. But that is exactly what arguing against ad blockers is. The entitlement of advertisers to your attention. This fundamentally breaks the social contract of ads. Imagine corporations arguing that municipal anti-billboard laws are theft
dustyData 2 weeks ago • 45%
He directly called it bad because it hurt his revenue stream. He is ok with ad blocking as long as it isn't being done to him. That's pretty bold if you ask me. A double standard, quite the opposite of nuance. He equated it with entering a cirque due soleil show without paying a ticket, which is a false equivalence. He thinks that he is entitled to have his ads seen as a price of admittance to watching his videos. No one is entitled to have their ads watched.

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/18188737 > Venezuelans are ready to throw off the dictatorship. Will the international community support us? > > By Maria Corina Machado I am writing this from hiding, fearing for my life, my freedom, and that of my fellow countrymen from the dictatorship led by Nicolás Maduro. Mr. Maduro didn’t win the Venezuelan presidential election on Sunday. He lost in a landslide to Edmundo González, 67% to 30%. I know this to be true because I can prove it. I have receipts obtained directly from more than 80% of the nation’s polling stations. We knew that Mr. Maduro’s government was going to cheat. We have known for years what tricks the regime uses, and we are well aware that the National Electoral Council is entirely under its control. It was unthinkable that Mr. Maduro would concede defeat. We Venezuelans have done our duty. We have voted out Mr. Maduro. Now it is up to the international community to decide whether to tolerate a demonstrably illegitimate government. The repression must stop immediately, so that an urgent agreement can take place to facilitate the transition to democracy. I call on those who reject authoritarianism and support democracy to join the Venezuelan people in our noble cause. We won’t rest until we are free.

Después de denunciar un bloqueo en sus servidores, que impidieron transmitir los primeros resultados, la favorita del proceso sumaba 552.430 votos, de 601.010 mil de los que se habían totalizado hasta el momento. I don't mean system files, but your personal and work files. I have been using Mint for a few years, I use Timeshift for system backups, but archived my personal files by hand. This got me curious to see what other people use. When you daily drive Linux what are your preferred tools to keep backups? I have thousands of pictures, family movies, documents, personal PDFs, etc. that I don't want to lose. Some are cloud backed but rather haphazardly. I would like to use a more systematic approach and use a tool that is user friendly and easy to setup and program.
