    You have a few choices:

    • Minecraft launcher (official) - Allows you to play vanilla MC.

    • Prisim launcher - allows you to download & play mod packs from several sources (newer FTB packs have to be loaded up in the FTB app first before being imported).

    • FTB app - allows you to play basically any FTB modpack.

The first should show up in the software store and the second two have install instructions on their websites.

    PSA: MikroTik and Pi-Hole

Just a PSA: for anyone using a MikroTik router, using it for their DHCP server and are having issues with their devices not using Pi-hole. If you have set the IP of your Pi-hole as the DNS server and are seeing entries in "dynamic servers" then the router is using your ISP's DNS server causing it to bypass your Pi-Hole. You need to go to the interface that is supplying your internet connection (PPPoE client, DHCP) and turn off the option "use peer dns". This will disable dynamic servers and route everything to your Pi-hole.

I think that this would be a security nightmare and would require a massive redesign for session cookies.

If anything they should be trying to lock cookies and sites assorted data to the specific device used to log in.

At the moment it is very easy for a criminal (once they have gained access) to nab your browser's entire profile and load it up on their computer giving them access to everything logged in on that profile.

What you are suggesting is something that would make the criminals jobs easier .

Wireless access points are really versatile and can be used is a number of ways.

I recently upgraded from an all in one WiFi router to a wired only router (I have fibre) which is then connected to my desktop using ethernet and I have a UFO style access point on the ceiling connected using ethernet and powered by POE.

If I need to upgrade the WiFi at a later date I don't have to redo my entire network setup.

I know the issue has be fixed but this is something you (or others) might want to consider.

If you have a desktop computer you can get a "wireless access point" which you can connect to your desktop using an ethernet cable then connect the AP to your WiFi network.

This negates the need to find an adapter that supports Linux and having to install drivers to make an adapter work.

With an AP the computer only sees an ethernet connection and as the AP is separate to your computer you can position it where it gets the best reception (there are even access points from the likes of TP-Link and others that can use POE (power over ethernet) so you can run just one cable).

For flat beds like the one in the picture they should be up high.

My cat has one on top of a bookcase in my office that is her go to spot (seriously the nice cat tree I got her is only used for scratching and as a platform to get to the bed).

Enclosed beds usually work better on the ground as it allows them to feel safe.

So many "system updates" that come out just before the new version is announced & suddenly your device is glitchy, slow and having constant problems.

I have been buying Nokia phones ever since. They aren't the fastest, have huge storage, nor all the flashy bling of the "flagship" products but over the years I have found that I don't need them.

Hell I even have a digital audio player so I can get better quality audio in a device smaller than most phones (plus I am not paying to rent music using streaming services).

An ISP provided router is generally going to be the cheapest device they can buy that will be functional on their service.

This means that if you are using more than a handful of devices it can overwhelm the processing power of the router leading to lag, drop outs, loss of connection, sites taking ages to load, etc.

When you buy your own router you get to choose a device that fits your (and your families) needs.

If you shop at an actual tech shop instead of your local big box store, you will find a huge number of different devices available that are far more capable than either the ISP's or big boxes stores offerings.

There are even entry level professional units that can support about a hundred devices connected to it without breaking a sweat.

When I switched from ADSL to fiber years ago I purchased a D-Link DIR-879 router which at the time was good enough for my needs but had some drop out issues so I have recently upgraded to a MikroTik RB960PGS Router which is both a wired only router (no inbuilt WiFi) and much more powerful both in performance and features.

I can use a Wifi access point or two to get WiFi where I need it and it can be upgraded as new WiFi standards come out without replacing the router.

You are barking up the wrong tree.

You are saying that your Steam Deck is not working with the wifi at your home but there is no issue with it working with airport, in-flight, and hotel wifi.

That immediately tells me that there is no issue with your Steam Deck but the POS router that your ISP has provided.

    You need to:

A: call your ISP and get them to fix their broken POS router.

B: At a later time get your own wifi router then call your ISP to put their useless shit into bridge mode so you can use your own router.

    Mikrotik setup question

I have recently upgraded my router from a nearly 7 year old consumer "gaming" router to a Mikrotik RB960PGS router. So far I have been able to: - Remove all configurations - Set a long admin password - Create a bridge - Setup DHCP server - Set up NAT - Set up Spark NZ fibre connection - Update to latest stable firmware (7.15.2) - Set up basic IPv4 & IPv6 firewalls - Setup NTP & disable cloud/update time - Set DNS to my Pi-hole - Disabled the following IP services API, API-SSL, FTP, SSH, Telnet, & WWW-SSL - Turned off "detect internet" - Turned off "use peer dns" so all DNS goes through the Pi-Hole instead of the ISP's DNS servers. Is there any other "gotcha's" or things that I should be setting up?

It's not so much both computers being able to access it.

From what I have experienced Timeshift tends to lock a drive when it is doing a backup.

If computer 1 is doing a backup and computer 2 tries to start it's backup it may fail without you noticing.

Giving each computer their own partition on the drive should alleviate the problem.

Have a look at Mountain of Ink.

They have very nicely done images of ink both as a swatch and writing on various papers.

From someone relatively new to fountain pens here are my paper observations:

    • Flexbook Adventure Notebook - 85gsm paper - Found to be very fountain pen friendly and tends to suck ink into the paper making it dry quickly making it good for fast writing with minimal to no bleed through.

    • Leuchtturm 1917 - 80gsm paper - Nice to write on but ink is slow to dry and dark ink bleeds through (lighter inks may not be as noticeable).

    • Moleskine - 70gsm paper - Not recommended for fountain pens, the paper bleeds through if you even breath near it, feels scratchy while writing and can cause feathering with certain inks. The paper would be good for pencils though.

    • Rhodia - 80gsm paper - Nice paper to write on, has a slight scratchy texture that feels strange when first using it but you get used. Barely any bleed through with dark ink and dries pretty quickly.

    • R by Rhodia - 90gsm paper - This is their premium paper and although it has the same features as the normal Rhodia 80gsm paper if you can get this version I recommend it.

    • Clairefontaine Triomphe - 90 gsm paper - Very nice paper to write on though it's almost too smooth with little feedback from the paper.

    • Midori - ??gsm paper - Haven't tried this paper yet.

    Fixed TWSBI Go ink problems

I brought a TWSBI Go with a fine nib a while ago. From day two it had issues with the feed drying up extremely quickly when using Diamine Scribble Purple ink. It dried out slightly slower when using Lamy black ink but for some reason it would fling out drops of ink when uncapped or jostled (so much fun finding random ink blobs on your dark mouse mat). Tried flushing the pen with water, taking the nib out and cleaning it with soapy water to no effect. I was about to return the pen but I found a random post that suggested flushing the entire pen with soapy water and cleaning the nibs slit would fix the issue. Seeing as I had nothing to loose and doing so wouldn't damage the pen I gave it a try. I ended up using some cotton sewing thread to clean the slit as that was all I had to hand. After cleaning the pen with soapy and clean water, cleaning the nib, drying, reassembling and reinking I gave it another go. And to my surprise it writes like a dream now and has no random ink going flying. While I know how I went about fixing the pen wasn't the best method I thought I would post about it anyway.

    You are all enablers!

So a while ago I thought that I would get a Lamy fountain pen to see if it would help with my handwriting. So off I go looking around at what is available and find the Lamy Safari, then I find the Lamy Al-star which cost a bit more than the Safari and I prefer metal pens due to my gorilla sized hands. So I buy the Lamy Al-star with a fine nib, some Lamy blue black cartridges and a converter. Wasn't really happy with the blue black ink (wasn't dark enough) so I went looking and found the Diamine blue black ink which is my new fave. Got a small bottle of that plus a bottle & cartridges of Lamy black ink and a EF nib for the Al-star. Time goes on and I see people talking about the TWSBI ECO and the Platinum Preppy pens. So after some debate I visit my local fine pen and stationary shop (kind of dangerous to my wallet) I am now the owner of a TWSBI ECO with an EF nib, a PP with EF nib, Platinum Pigment Carbon Black Cartridges & a A5 Rhodia Webnotebook. All was good for a while then I had a need for a better pen to carry in my bag. So today I purchased an Kaweco AL Sport with EF nib, another Platinum Preppy with a fine nib, a box of Kaweco perl black cartridges and a box of Diamine blue black cartridges. Hopefully I have enough pens for now but something tells me that I don't.
