Oh fuck off. You didn’t imply or even suggest that anyone had Alzheimer's and you made a joke out of it. You suggested that he sent you an email instead of hitting “Allow”. That’s not something that people with Alzheimer’s do. People with Alzheimer’s have memory issues not an inability to read.

The one about people taking COVID medical advice from the guy that used to make people eat donkey cum was pretty funny… and I say this as a person who still thinks people with COVID should wear masks.

Additionally, Benevity could also have an option for donations to pro-Palestinian groups too since the only requirement for registration is that the org be a 501c3 which can be obtained by any non-profit. It’s not like Apple is choosing sides by allowing employees to donate to whichever causes they support as individuals.

You’re not informing me of anything and none of what you just said disputes or argues against anything that I said. I am opposed to an abortion ban. I’m just pointing out that what you said is not accurate and is an exaggeration. This is meant to be a community of moderate, informed political discussion. You’re not being honest or representative about what the situation is.

I would and will never vote for Trump but what you’ve said is an exaggeration in many places and Trump has not even endorsed or promoted Project 2025. He is also on record stating that he won’t sign a federal abortion ban. You can stick to things he’s actually said to point out how bad he is. You don’t have to say things like “he shares values with Hitler” to try and scare people. By that standard, every Christian shares values with Hitler.

I’m not sure but that’s a potential solution. You’d have to find the older APK somewhere but I feel like it should work since it’s just a Bluetooth connection to the toy.

The funny thing about this is that the first time I had that moment of realization was when I got the Sphero BB-8 toy from my kids for Christmas. It had a dedicated app. The reason it’s funny is because, out of all the things that I own, it’s the only app-driven one that still works. Sphero just merged it into their main app. Once that app stops getting updated, this toy will cease to work despite everything about it being functional. ☹️

What in the fuck are you on about?
It’s not pride in the lines drawn, it’s pride in the positive things that your community does on a national scale. That’s the point. You take the good things that you see elsewhere and you decide that you want to emulate that.

There are multiple ways. Statistical significance is largely used to determine whether a sample size is representative but it’s flawed on its own for some sample sizes as small effects can get exaggerated the larger the sample gets. Look up the methods for determining effect sizes and confidence intervals to determine the best route to go to see what minimum sample size is necessary to both have high confidence in the accuracy of the hypothesis and to ensure that the results have enough statistical power to detect the effect in question.

Patriotism and nationalism has zero place in society.
Not true. Patriotism is wanting and seeking the best for your country. Because our society relies on those physical divides, patriotism would actually improve society. Nationalism is deciding that whatever your country is doing already is the best simply by virtue of self-identification. There is no desire for improvement outside of an individual perception so it, functionally, can never offer any improvement for society.
One is potentially beneficial. The other is cancerous.

I didn’t have to. You’ve given reasons for why not to play those games. You’re just pretending like they’re reasons for not paying for them rather than for not playing them.
And they’re not personal attacks because they’re not directed towards just you. I’ve given plenty of evidence and reason for why people who do so are entitled. A personal attack is attacking the person making the argument. My argument is that people are making excuses because they’re entitled.

I really want to know the specific “performance enhancing drugs” these people think Biden is using. No hand-waving. Be explicit and tell everyone what magical drugs these are and then let’s test them both for these drugs.

Again, you’re just making excuses. You are exactly the type of person who feels entitled to these things. There is no right that you have to play games that you want to play just because you don’t like the surrounding situation. You can also just not play those games. There are plenty of wonderful games from indie devs without all of those things that you can play and reward them with your time and money but you’re choosing to play games from companies who do those things because of your sense of entitlement and then attempt to make excuses to justify your entitlement.
No one is forcing you to do these things. You’re choosing to do them.

- I never said any of that so that’s a very robust straw man
and
- We’re not talking about things that aren't legally available. This thread and discussion is about games that are available for purchase but whose users feel entitled to play without paying despite enjoying the game.
They’re both very nice straw men, though. I especially love their little hats.

If I believed that even half of the people that pirated these games couldn’t afford them, I’d agree with you. The reality is that most digital piracy is perpetuated by people who are well-off and have lots of tech, access to broadband internet, and high-end gaming computers.
dpkonofa 3 months ago • 100%
That’s not where I’m coming from. The “you’ve lost nothing” excuse is just an excuse. These people put their time, money, and talent into their games and people who are entitled and can afford to buy them don’t. My company made a game before and people played it for weeks and pirated it. Some of our top players by time were people who pirated the game. You can’t tell me that the game isn’t worth paying for if you're spending that much time playing it. Some devs can get to the point of where Slay the Princess is and the actual sales can sustain the company and so the minimal pirating just encourages word of mouth sales. Most game devs don’t have that luxury. They’re trying to make a living and sustain themselves and entitled shits are leeching off their time and effort.
If you enjoy something, pay for it. Otherwise, you’re voting with your wallet for the wrong things.

Despite some of my objections, I almost feel like you have to pirate Ubisoft games. Their launcher ruins nearly every single Ubisoft game I’ve played and makes the games crashy, unplayable messes even when the games themselves are enjoyable.

So, just to be clear, you can plug in the Steam Deck into the Dock and it shows up on the display right away without having to power up/down, plug/unplug, or press any button combos to reset controllers or put it into storage mode? Do you plug it in powered on or off? Can you hot-plug while a game is running or no?
I expected it to work more like the Switch where you plug it in and it switches displays but maybe my expectations are too high?
dpkonofa 3 months ago • 100%
I can’t even get the Dock to acknowledge that there’s a firmware update despite Valve support saying there are at least 2 newer versions. It has done 1 update in the time that I’ve owned it and no combination of their suggested unplu/plug/restart cycle causes it to start an update.
dpkonofa 3 months ago • 100%
It never connects on the first try when plugged into the Deck. I always have to plug/unplug the Power, USB, and HDMI cables to get it to switch over. This has been tried with multiple displays, multiple HDMI cables, and with Steam support. If you look on the Steam Community forums, this seems to be a common issue with some of the early Docks and Valve, for whatever reason, has no answers. I finally got them to replace it after nearly a year and only after the warranty is over so I have no idea if it was a defect or something else. Both Docks that we ordered have the same issues, though.
It used to be a given that Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon followed along perfectly with the movie The Wizard of Oz. If you started the album after a specific MGM lion roar, you could play the album on repeat and it would fit eerily close to certain scenes. For me, this question comes up because I was playing Spider-Man 2 for PS5 and had Unicorn by GUNSHIP playing. I may have had it on shuffle but the number of times things lined up was crazy good. “Tastes Like Venom” as Peter gets the black suit for the first time, “Monster In Paradise” as he beats the snot out of the Hunters, and “Darkness for Dreams” as Miles and Martin Li enter Peter’s consciousness are literal perfection. The only outliers are the parts of the game, like Howard’s mission, where the song is meant to accompany that section of gameplay. Otherwise, I could play it on repeat and feel some kind of weird connection between the two separate but awesome pieces of art. Lemmy, what’s your video gaming equivalent? I don’t just mean albums that are cool combined with a game. I mean a combo that gels in the same way as DSotM and Wizard of Oz.

I just added a series to my Sonarr list and a few of the episodes started downloading successfully (I did choose the option to search for monitored episodes when I added it) but several of them just say "Episode missing from disk" with the ⚠️ symbol next to them. When I click the "Search Monitored" button, nothing changes and nothing is added. What's going on here? If I click on "Interactive Search", there are results that are returned and they don't have the red exclamation point and, as far as I can tell, they fit my criteria. Why would some of these download and not others and why aren't the episodes with results downloading when I click "Search Monitored"? Am I misunderstanding the way this is supposed to work? I've never had this happen before but this never became an issue until I had to recreate the container.
Apologies if this isn't the best place to post this... I'm not able to receive phone calls anymore after updating to iOS17. My friend told me that they tried calling me 4 times and got a busy signal every time. I told them that my phone never rang (which is true) but, when I went to my missed calls, it shows 4 missed calls from them. I asked them to call me again (while I was looking at my phone) and the notification banner for the call comes in for a split second but is "greyed out" and says their name and then "User busy" before disappearing. I've restarted my phone, checked to make sure I didn't accidentally block them, added them to my Favorites, and even had someone else try to call me and all result in the same thing. My computer rings via FaceTime when some people call me but it seems like my phone won't ring at all and everyone just gets a busy signal. Any ideas? Anyone else getting this after the update? I've searched for a while now but every reference to "User busy" is old and just says something to the effect of "restart your phone" or "change your settings to allow unknown/junk callers". This isn't either of those things, though.
I just swiped accidentally from the top of the screen and uncovered an off-screen ad in Voyager. What is this and is this disclosed anywhere? Edit: Why is this post being downvoted? This is a legitimate bug/issue. What an unwelcoming community…
At the Comedy Cafe for a stand-up show and this woman in the very front started ignoring the headliner comedian for making sex jokes because she was a woman. The comedian (who handled it expertly) dead-ass had to stop the show to ask the woman what her deal was cuz she was on like TikTok or some shit. The lady then started to complain that the comedian wasn’t very good at making jokes so the comedian let this stupid fool get up there with the mic to explain why she was ok with ruining the show for everyone else. I have never seen anything like this. The first 2 comedians were men who made just as many sex jokes (including a whole bit on Jackson Pollack using semen as a painting medium). This woman even participated in one of the bits with the men saying that she was trying to convert her friend, who was with her at the show, into a lesbian by “serving her some clam chowder”. I’m just still in awe that this lady had the nerve to get up on stage and try to steal the mic back from the comedian. It was such surreal iamthemaincharacter bullshit. I can’t believe it happened in real life.
