Gonna need a new post if you want to get much visibility in the feed; hexbear's active sort is geared heavily towards relatively fresh posts

As the guy who fixed active sort, I can certify that this is correct. I've been toying with the idea of creating a new bot that responds on a timer, repeatedly, which would provide an actual benefit, but haven't gotten around to it as yet.
Also, stock Lemmy Active sort just uses hot sort with the most recent comment time--up to 2 days after the post is made, called newest_comment_time_necro in the DB--in place of the time when the post was made. So threads can stick around for at least 2 days, but they have to compete with all the other highly-voted recent posts.
(Ironically, I was also the one who came up with the bots idea in the first place lol)
One more thing: the job to re-sort the posts runs every 10 minutes, on the 10-minute mark (e.g. 8:00:00, 8:10:00, 8:20:00, etc), so the closer to one of those you bump, the more effective it is, and bumping more than once every 10 minutes is relatively unnecessary.

Considering how much of the feed is taken up by posts about bean penises and other nonsense, there's no reason to worry about pushing your (much more important) posts to the top.

Reposting this thread myself because OP is not fully clear on how best to keep posts visible. cross-posted from: https://hexbear.net/post/3399398 > wife and i’s phone bills are due today and we heavily rely on them for practically everything from accessing funds to communicating when apart considering we dont have a reliable source of internet a lot of the time - and the month we were able to pay for at this motel is up on the 10th. to keep both on amounts to about $90 and for reference on rent it’s either $55/night, $250/week or $600/month (we stay at a motel for now) if anyone can please spare anything to help. we have no family as mine all passed away within the past year in separate incidents and no other support structure exists for us.. we honestly could really use help with food right now as well as help with paying for our medications as we havent been able to gather enough to pick up all of them but rent and phones are extremely more pressing right now ❤️🖤 > > cashapp ~ $goldenratio1123 > > paypal ~ @ iwannadaisuki > > can dm [@resistancecommittee@hexbear.net](https://hexbear.net/u/resistancecommittee) for venmo, zelle or if you cant find them for any reason. thankyou so much in advance

Please stop just editing your posts after a day or more; the only people who will see that are those who, like me, regularly check this specific comm. You need to make a subsequent post after that much time has elapsed to get any visibility in the main site feed.

You'll need to make a new thread to have any hope of visibility, I'm afraid; after a day or so, posts drop off the feed pretty quickly.

TheaJo is a longtime member of this community, since just about the very beginning of the site, at which point she was unhoused IIRC. But she was able to secure housing and has been able to maintain it for multiple years. Now, though, she's at risk of losing that, so please help her avoid ending up back at square 1. Thanks. cross-posted from: https://hexbear.net/post/3188035 > hello all, a couple days back i made a post asking for money to help cover my rent for this month: https://hexbear.net/post/3166774 > > anyway, since its been a few days and my goal hasnt been met, i thought id make another post. currently we are at $410/1250 which is great honestly (thank yall a lot), but the 15th is coming up soon. Any help is appreciated. > > ps. if you cant use any of the payment links below dm me > > paypal: amangum4@gmail.com > cashapp: $steelsorcerer
In reality it's the lever for the climate control inside the trolley that's it, that's the post
Seriously, how is my Johnny-come-lately ass the first one to come up with this?
Looks like we upset a few too many ![kkkanada](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/478c2b58-b7bd-4c22-9f22-df7c3ea55a98.png "kkkanada") residents over at lemmy.ca. I didn't see a post about this on here, so I thought I'd go ahead and make one. 2 of 4 reasons why are basically just PPB lol, and a third is for calling for executions of landlords ![mao-aggro-shining](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/89e643f4-e9b1-4f5d-a3ef-8d5f6c3e52c4.png "mao-aggro-shining")
I totally realize most people are going to disagree with me here but I feel compelled to say that [closing the site for a joke](https://hexbear.net/post/282148) is a very kind thing to do. We have seen TONS of posts from vulnerable populations talking about how this site being closed is a source of support and humor in a dark time. Irony and dirtbagism aside, providing that support with advance warning is okay. You can say I'm being silly, or humorless or reactionary. Whatever. I love the show and I love this community. But sometimes I come home after dealing with ableism and our nightmare reality all day, and this site being closed is one of many things that make me feel better. It isn't a good feeling to find this site still up for the sake of irony. Maybe that's laughable or pathetic. But for me, it's true.
> The rhetoric and goal of Hexbar are clear based on their announcement: to “dismantle western propaganda” and "demolish organizations such as NATO” shows that Hexbar has no intention of "respecting the rules of the community instance in which they are posting/commenting.” It’s to push their beliefs and ideology. lol. lmao even
