I’ll always be fond of the PCT but I’m sure it’s because it was my first. The 500 mile section I did on the AT is all I ever need to do of that trail.. I much prefer the grand vistas of the PCT (and the switchbacks!) compared to the green tunnel which heads straight up the sides of rocky hills.

    GG Kumo 36 Fastpack

Anybody have first hand experience of using both the original Kumo AND the new fastpack model? I’m no trail runner but with a UL base weight and regular 25-30 mile days on trail, I’m really intrigued by the new model. My original Kumo has about 3000 miles on it and I’ve loved the pack but it’s getting beat up and I’m considering the upgrade. Does the fastpack carry any more comfortably than the original? I wear my original with the straps as tight as I can get them so the vest style seems like it might be right up my alley.

Not sure if you’re into trekking pole tents, but the Gossamer Gear “The One” can be set up with the poles in sort of a ‘V’ shape, leaving a bit overhang on both sides. I’ve sat through light rains with one of the panels on the front door rolled up with no issues.

I usually zip up the front door fully in rain so that wind doesn’t blow rain into my tent but if you were smart about the direction you set up the tent, you could probably mitigate this a bit. I wouldn’t leave the doors open in any major storms though.

I don’t have experience with “The Two” but I believe it’s a similar setup if you’re in need of something larger - I’m a fairly large dude though and The One is enough for me.

Just wrapped up 500 miles on the ODT - wild trip of wildflowers, snow, overfilled marshy walking, and intense thunderstorms. One hell of a trail!
