The only ASMR I can stand is the sound of food cooking/sizzling, only because it triggers an appetite for me.
Shit like whispering, fingernails clacking on hard surfaces, or plastic bags being crinkled... no thanks.

I grew beyond The Eagles though and now I lump them in with boy bands.

When Trump brought the cat and dog thing up at the debate, I thought he was cooked and that nobody in the right frame of mind, not even the average chud, would believe it, but the next day people at my work were talking about how true it is and that it needs to be stopped. It's amazing and scary how easily people are quick to believe something without a shred of evidence. Even my mom texted me a mugshot of a woman who was arrested for killing and trying to eat a cat. But when I replied that it happened in a completely different city and the suspect was a US born citizen with mental issues, she said that the suspect was actually Haitian, it happened in Springfield and the police are pretending it happened somewhere else to make their town look good. I don't even know how to respond to a take like that. Just a year or so ago she was happy to see Alex Jones getting canceled for threatening families of the kids who died at Sandy Hook. Now she's believing and forwarding Jones-grade conspiracy shit, and she couldn't care less about school shootings anymore. It's depressing as fuck.

Not only would it take a long time, I imagine the results would be extremely random to the point it would be unreliable as an execution method. Carcinogens, and the way each person's body reacts to them, are highly unpredictable. That's why health disclaimers on carcinogenic products say "may cause cancer" and not "will cause cancer."
It would be far easier to just shoot or stab the target and make it look like a robbery gone bad or something.
Reminds me of that scene from Austin Powers where they parody those intricate death traps in James Bond films...
Dr. Evil: I'm going to kill Mr. Powers by putting him in an overly elaborate and easily escapable contraption and assume it all went according to plan.
Scott: Why don't you just get a gun and shoot him? He's right there!

They still do ads but it's silent slideshows of food and products that are on sale in the gas station store. Still shitty but kind of an improvement I guess?

The R-slur was considered offensive even when I went to school in the early 90s. I distinctly remember kids getting into trouble when caught saying it, especially if it was directed at kids in the special education classes.
By the 2000s I feel like the lid had more or less been put on those kinds of slurs. But in the last 10 years or so they've made a comeback in spite of chuds claiming that they're being "censored" now, and that the 90s were like some bastion of freeze peach.

A few years ago the grocery I worked for got rid of their inventory scan guns that ran on Windows CE and used TinyTERM. They were rugged as shit and it was impossible to lose your progress if you took the scanner into a WiFi dead zone somewhere in the bowels of the stockroom. Then at some point they switched to these shitty Android-based ones where everything is done on a web browser. You needed to be extra cautious to make sure it was actually communicating with the WiFi and remote server, or else whatever you're scanning would not get counted/ordered.

Reminds me of when a chud claims to have personally seen someone pay for a cartload of lobster and steaks with their food assistance card, then take it to their Cadillac while talking on their iPhone.
Like they all repeat this same story verbatim, so it's obvious they're talking out of their ass and making shit up, but they're also low-key admitting that they stalk people from the supermarket to their car.

Any time I talk about my hobbies, I get told that I have too much free time on my hands, and/or that I should turn said hobbies into a job/business.
It's like people are so capitalism-brained that they can't fathom someone having a passion for the sake of the passion itself, and not making a commodity out of it.
Also the phrase "you have too much free time on your hands" as a backhanded insult. People seem to abhor the idea of someone spending their time doing things for themselves instead of working. Or am I reading too much into that?

Knew somebody who had colorectal cancer and got medicinal cannabis. While he admitted he only got it so he could smoke legally, he also said that it was the only thing that helped him get an appetite and eat because the chemo and the cancer itself killed his appetite most of the time. He said it did nothing for the pain though.
I have anxiety as well as a cardiac arrhythmia. I'd imagine cannabis would make those things worse, so I've avoided smoking any, even in spite of recreational use being legalized in my state.

I have cardinal climbers for my trellis. They attract lots of honey bees and I even spotted some hummingbirds a few times. But I have to be aggressive with controlling the vines because they will spread if I neglect them for more than a few days.
If you plant some make sure to put them in an area where you can control any seedling growth. They'll take over your flower bed if you're not careful.

A majority of the PAVN and NLF leadership and officers were old veterans who previously fought Japanese occupation during WWII, and French occupation during the 1950s. To say that they were all just plucky civilians who took up arms to fight the Americans is inaccurate. Many of them were already experienced soldiers.
Then a few years later they liberated Cambodia and fought off an attempted occupation by China in 1979.
Vietnam was a force to be reckoned with well before the US tried to get its claws in it.

I went through a box of old family photos taken by my grandparents in the 60s and 70s. One of the most jarring things about them is how many outdoor pics have snow on the ground. I just assumed most of them were taken around December/Christmas, but then I see months like October or even April hand written on them.
I live in the same town those pictures were taken in and it hardly ever snows here anymore, save for a couple days January. It snowed literally once this past winter, and it wasn't even enough to justify bringing my snow blower out to clear the walks because it melted within hours.

It's like the 1500ml water bottles that are next to the 1500ml Pepsi bottles. Beyond the cost of the plastic, water and filtration (pretty much the same bottle and filtered water that's used to make Pepsi) there's no fucking reason they should be the exact same price.
Games too. The digital download is exactly the same price as the physical. And these days there's no reason to even get the physical anymore because the game isn't actually on the disc. It's just a script that opens the game store and downloads it.

Same with celebrities any time one dies, even when they're well past the average life expectancy and/or had a long illness that was diagnosed pre-covid. Comment threads, especially on YouTube and Facebook, full of "Safe and effective?" comments.

From what I read the bridge was built in 1898 and had its last major overhaul in 2004. NYC has seen hotter temps than 95°F/35°C during those 126 years. It got up to 108/42 degrees in 1936 for example, and broke 100/37 several times since 2004.
I feel like there's more going on there than mere thermal expansion, which should be accounted for in a rotating swing bridge like this. I don't know much about geology but could the ground on either side shift enough without, say, an earthquake causing it?

My favorite are the people who hate the big city because of the traffic, but are also opposed to any alternative form of transportation (bike lanes, trains) that would take more vehicles off the roads.
I've been coal rolled, had beer cans and other garbage thrown at me and almost clipped nearly every time I go out biking. And I live in a town with some decent bike infrastructure. If I ever retaliated, you can bet these assholes would be on Facebook in an instant talking about how aggressive and entitled cyclists are.
Rats have gotten into the confiscated marijuana at the vermin-infested and decaying New Orleans Police Department headquarters, the city's top cop warned. "I want you to see the tray of all of the roaches, major rodents on the floor, the cockroaches, the rats eating our marijuana. They're all high," Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick told the Criminal Justice Committee on Monday about the evidence room. The current department headquarters houses substandard facilities with broken air conditioners and elevators. Officers "have nowhere to use a restroom," according to Kirkpatrick.
I guess Carano's post-Disney movie career with Ben Shapiro wasn't paying the bills. With Musk having skin in the game this shitshow is gonna be so fun to watch, but the better part of me knows Disney is just gonna settle out of court for some undisclosed amount and the chuds will say they "won."
Going by social media reactions, I'm seeing these street-blocking protests getting praises from both people on the left and the right. I'm trying to decipher what I can by translating French articles on the matter but I'm still not entirely sure what the ideology behind this protest is. I mean, going against a colonialist government is always based, but I'd feel a little icky supporting the movement if it's chuds throwing a tantrum that they're forced to pay their workers living wages, or can't dump pigshit into waterways or something.
More often than not, the plots are a variation of "woman in the big city gives up her job, leaves her (admittedly bougie and shitty) boyfriend, and moves back to the small town she grew up in where she hooks up with her old boyfriend who, in spite of his working class salt-of-the-earth appearance, has money."
