I can only speak from personal experience. I process the world in much the same way. I find something neat, learn everything I can, then inevitably get bored a few months later. But I recently had the realization that I've been receding into hyper fixations to distract from the very real sources of depression in my life.
I would find myself feeling vaguely sad or unfulfilled and instead of addressing the source, I immediately dive into the minutiae of whatever I'm fixated on at the moment. Thinking to myself "surely I'll feel more fulfilled once I've figured out this software." Or "Won't it feel great when I'm done with this project?!".
But I never do feel fulfilled anymore. The sadness has never gone away. It's always been there, just out of sight. I'm surrounded by a graveyard of distractions.

Well, based on personal experience, I can tell you that some chemical dependency and spiralling mental health won't fix it. So I'm fresh out of ideas.

Oh yeah for sure. Throw some pot and booze in there and you've got a party. I'll never need to address just how bad things have gotten.

ADHD is great if you're depressed and don't know it or don't want to admit it. You can just distract yourself by going from one dopamine fix to the next while the color slowly drains from your world. It also gives you the ability to ignore all the signs since you can hyper focus on literally anything else.

I've used that script and can confirm it works. I was actually coming into this thread to recommend it. I don't think there is anything nefarious in that script. Or at least I haven't had anything bad happen on the machine I used it on. I suppose someone with more knowledge could look through the script to see if anything looks out of place.

Re-replying to this just to say that the last two weeks of my life have been consumed by Assetto Corsa and all it's amazing mods. The free-roams are great, but the vintage cars and tracks are what have been occupying all my time. Trying to cut a clean and fast lap around Battenbergring in an Alfa 33 has consumed all my free time.

I like my CZ P10C. In general I think CZ is slept on in the us. It's a great shooting gun, at decent price. I ended up putting different sights (night sights) and a better trigger in it. But that was just personal preference and not a necessity.

I don't remember the surgeries but I do remember visiting the hospital in Chicago a few times as a kid. Really cool place, I remember having a lot of fun there, in between getting X-rays.

That's awesome! Super lucky too. Like, what are chances? For me it was pretty standard. My family Dr gave us a referral to them, and they took the case. I don't remember any of the surgeries since they all happened before I was 2.

Dirt does look like a really good time. I think I'm going to try to play beam tonight with my friends. We used to hang out and do trail drives/rock crawling. I got a one month subscription to iracing since it was on sale, so maybe I'll give it a try later.
I've never tried a motorcycle racing game. I don't know if I'd like it. I've never really followed MotoGP or anything like that. I did really enjoy the old MX games on ps2. But that was decades ago so I might just be nostalgia blinded.
Recently BeamNG added VR support. So the other day I dug out my old Logitech racing wheel and gave it a go. Holy shit is it fun. Beam is fun in flat, and it's fun in VR too. https://streamable.com/prvo6l But, I wanna try out racing against people. So if anyone here races, what do you play? Iracing seems expensive, entirely too serious, and a huge commitment. So I'm worried about going that route. Dirt 2 looks fun, and so does the new WRC.

It feels weird to say the VR is my hobby, but I guess that's the most accurate way to describe it. My first headset was a rift s I got second hand back in 2020. I've been a big fan of VR gaming since. Most of the games I was going to recommend have already been listed so I'll just share my favorites.
For shooting and gun type games, H3VR(Hotdogs, Horseshoes, and Hand Granades) is the absolute best. The guns are great, the dev does almost weekly updates, and it's still getting better.
Into The Radius is an awesome horror survival game that's basically Stalker in VR. The atmosphere is perfect, and it's probably one of the most immersive vanilla games you can play. Reloading magazines in the middle of a fight, bullet by bullet, can really ramp up the tension.
Fallout 4 VR and Skyrim VR are both incredible games once you mod them. In vanilla form they honestly suck, but with mods, they become a completely new game.
VRChat is wonderful. It's free. Go to the world LSMedia and watch a movie in 3d. LSMedia is one of the "movie" worlds that has pretty much every movie, TV show, and anime you can think of. 3d movies in VR just work. They work how they were supposed to in theaters. It's kinda mind blowing to be honest. I'd just recommend staying on private worlds unless you like hanging out with strangers. I just play with friends on private.
DCS and VTOLVR are both great flying games. VTOL is meant from the ground up to be in VR, so it's a lot more simple. DCS is a full blown flight sim. VTOL is a lot more casual, DCS is a lot more rewarding. I like both of them for different reasons.
Vermillion is oil painting in VR. Painting in VR is such a natural way to use VR. Vermillion is great if you've ever wanted to try out oil painting but dont want to go buy all the stuff.

There's a mod available that adds full motion controls to elite and it works pretty good.
Mehrunes_Laser 9 months ago • 100%
I mostly fly helos in DCS, but I can confirm that it is awesome. But I'd like to point out that a lot of the more popular modules have full flickable cockpits and full motion controls. The UH-1H, AH 64, and KA-50 all fly great in VR with motion controls, no joystick needed. A bunch of other modules are full motion as well, but the only fixed wings I can confirm fully work are the p51 and f86. I haven't tried any others.
*Edit to say that I highly recommend a rudder pedal though.

I was scrolling down waiting to see the Mars Volta. My all time favorite band. Deloused is still my favorite, mostly because of nostalgia. However, I've really been enjoying their newest self titled album they released last year. The acoustic album they released with it is good too.

I found this channel a few weeks ago and now I want to start doing watch repair. Lord help me I don't need a new hobby.
I hope you don't catch me! Oh no I'm so slow.
I guess I know what my next big project is going to be. By the time I get one built, the software/slicers will probably be much better. I already have a few steppers and belts, so all I need to do is print the files and assemble it. Although I think I'd modify it slightly for my use. I think I'd build it on a stand alone base/plate. That way I can temporarily attach it on my printbed.
I like to play flight sims, and a rudder pedal is a pretty important accessory to me. The problem is that the ones that are available to purchase are either prohibitively expensive or they're designed to be thrown away when they fail. Well, after throwing away my second set of pedals, I decided to design my own. Serviceability is my primary design consideration. Having to change out a potentiometer every couple hundred hours of use is a non-issue if the process to do so takes 10 mins from start to finish. The pedals operate as an accessory to the throttle controler (TWCS T.1600M) that was part of the set the original pedals came with. The throttle has a rj12 connection on it that allows it to connect several additional axis's. So I'm just feeding the potentiometer directly into that jack, letting the throttle controler figure it out, and then assigning it an axis in game. I will eventually replace the throttle interface with my own onboard Arduino controller but that's a different project for a different day. I originally tried to use a small rotational dampener I scavenged from an industrial cabinet that had soft close drawers. But it didn't give me enough resistance, so I added the cheapest motorcycle steering dampener I could find. Now it has great feel. The only drawback is that it doesn't self center, but that's a feature since I primarily fly helicopters. The parts bill was around $70~ Additional pictures: https://hexbear.net/pictrs/image/Y8El3K71hp.jpg https://hexbear.net/pictrs/image/c61YRwnjL3.jpg
Are millions of years of evolution keeping you from taking your pet snake for a walk?
I found this old computer with a really cool old case that will be perfect for my new computer build. I've been thinking about using all my old components that are left over from my ongoing Ship of Theseus style gaming build to build a dedicated media storage and recording PC. I really like how over built the case is. It's got a frikin keyed lock for the side panel lol. This particular dumpster has been a gold mine honestly. So far I've saved a nice pressure washer, and a large stainless steel hose reel from this dumpster.
I've been job hunting for a few months with zero luck. None of the jobs I wanted would even call me back. Well, frustrated and bored, I edited my resume to include all kind of falsehoods. I added a bachelor's degreefrom a university that is now closed. I picked a field I could bullshit like I know what I'm talking about. I didn't tell them that the school was closed, and I figured it might be hard for them to verify this on their end since it's a bunch of extra steps to get the transcripts. I changed my last job to an made up one. The job that I had been working is one that I'd honestly like to remove from my work history entirely. It's not that I think they'd give me a bad review, but that they were a sex toy/fetish item retailer. I actually loved working there, but I honestly don't want to have to explain this to my next employer. So I made up a similar company that is just an Amazon reshipper, gave it a google voice number that I controlled, and a made up address. I changed a bunch of other smaller details, and gave myself a few awards. And then I went applyin'. 3 days later I had an interview at a local small business. They sent out for an actual background check. I was a nervous wreck for almost a week, but I passed it. I start Monday. The job I applied for didn't require any real accreditation, but they wanted a bachelor's in essentially anything. So I made one up. It's a small business that doesn't have an HR department. So I doubt they will ever dig any deeper as long as I never give them a reason to do so. They never called my actual last job, and they didn't bring it up in any of the interviews I went. They never even called the made up job with the fake number. I guess what I'm saying is that to weigh your own risk here. If you think you can get away with it, give it a try. You might be surprised what happens.
