Thanks to everyone who responded. I did solve this from your suggestions of looking at the keyboard settings (Settings/System/Keyboard). Thanks again. I now have emojis enabled (which I never use, but I like having the option just in case).
Hello. I note that previous versions of the LineageOS Messaging app had support for including emojis. This recent version does not include such an option. The keyboard choices are simply either letters or numbers. Is there a way to once again have this option in the LineageOS Messaging app? Note, I do not have Google Play Services installed. I rely solely on LineageOS along with some additional f-droid apps (and this is something I have always relied on since I began using LineageOS some years ago, starting with a Nexus 5 -- I now have a Google Pixel 4a running LineageOS 21). **solved**: Going to Settings/System/Keyboard allowed me to enable the emoji option.

Yeah, I'm a bit worried that I may have to reinstall if things don't get fixed. But, if so, I do have a backup via Seedvault.
I have a Google Pixel 4a. I have LineageOS on it (codename [Sunfish](https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/sunfish/)). When I first installed it I got regular updates each week. But now I haven't received one since March 16. Have they stopped releasing these? Do I now have to try and build updates myself?

I still haven't had any luck being able to have a backup which can be restored. I created a backup on a USB stick, which is plugged into the phone via a female USB-A to a male USB-C connector. The phone sees the USB stick. I made a backup here with Seedvault. It acknowledges the backup as having been successfully created ("Last backup: 41 minutes ago"). The USB stick is connected to the phone. Yet, pressing the three-dot menu only gives the options, "Backup now", "Expert settings", and "About". There is no restore option given. Does anyone know how the restore option can be made available?
[edit]
Well, I'll assume that if I reinstall LineageOS on another phone (or on this same phone if I need to), that during the reinstall it'll ask if I wish to restore apps and data from a backup, and if I say "yes", then, with the USB stick attached, I can proceed (provided I have the twelve answer verification code). I'm not going to test this, but I trust it will work if need be. I don't think that once the phone is fully installed, that Seedvault (backup in settings) gives a "restore" option via the three dot menu. I think a restore option is only given when first setting up the phone (or possibly by using the phone dialer app and typing *#*#7378673#*#*
).

Okay, even though the recovery code is verified when I check it, the program does now say: "Backup status: Last backup: Never".
I think creating it first on the phone and then transferring it to a laptop (via MTP) won't work. Despite what the site says, I think these files can't be worked with if they are moved around. Perhaps if I get a cord and directly attach a USB stick, then maybe I'll have some luck. Perhaps the program will see a USB stick or USB storage thing, since it doesn't seem to see a Debian laptop as a place for creating the backup file(s).

Thanks for the answer. However, I'm finding it confusing.
Using the file browser, I deleted the folder .SeedVaultAndroidBackup in my phone. This took two attempts (the first did not fully delete it in the phone, but the second time, I did manage to delete it.)
Previously I had copied this folder onto my laptop (via a USB cable where transfer files with MTP was set). So, I copied it back to my phone from the laptop. I verified this exists, and I checked the recovery code. The recovery code was verified ("your code is correct and will work for restoring your backup.")
But, the site says: "Once you have it ready, click on 'Restore' within the menu you get through the three dots on the top right." I've checked this menu, but that option is not there. Just "Backup now", "Expert settings", "About". No restore option. And "Expert settings" also does not contain this option.
Is there something I have to do to enable this option?
Okay, I have a Google Pixel 4a with LineageOS ([sunfish](https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/sunfish/)). I followed the instructions given at this [site](https://kb.above.im/backup-seedvault/), and created a Seedvault backup. I had my phone plugged into my laptop via USB, and transfer of files for USB was enabled; so, the laptop could access the phone's files via MTP. However, this was not seen as an option for where the backup was to be created (IE, it did not give the option to create the backup on the hard drive of the laptop via a file transfer with MTP). So, I created it on the phone. I have since copied that file to my laptop. Specifically, I copied the backup file which was created, that being *.SeedVaultAndroidBackup*, to my laptop. My laptop runs Debian Linux. So, a few questions: 1.) will I be able to restore from the backup file, *.SeedVaultAndroidBackup*, that exists on my laptop? Or will this not work, given that it wasn't originally created there? 2.) if the answer to (1.) is "yes", then will I be able to delete the backup that was made on my phone? 3.) is there a way to create a backup with Seedvault specifically on my laptop, rather than copying the created backup file afterword? I wonder if there was a setting with USB transfer (MTP) that could be adjusted (IE, making the laptop the focus rather than the phone).

Thanks, that's great! Good to know.
I recently bought a Google Pixel 4a. The [link](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/4457705?hl=en#zippy=%2Cpixel-a-g-pixel-pixel-a-g-pixel-a-pixel-xl-pixel) from the title outlines that security updates from Google will soon be ending for the Pixel 4a (though there was a surprise update in November, but no further updates are expected). Yet, in spite of that, I assume that LineageOS security updates will continue for this phone, since for a variety of other older phones they have continued. But, I wonder, how will this be achieved? Is there information on how LineageOS creates and releases security updates for the devices that it supports?

Thank you for your straight forward and very succinct answer. I did peruse that site, but became confused by the various options that I found in it. If you could decipher the information on the site, and provide an actual link to where exactly I report bugs for postmarketOS packages, that would be appreciated.
I'm using postmarketOS plasma edge on my Pinephone Pro. The KDE program Kasts (installed from a postmarketOS package) crashed when I tried to run it, so I filed a bug report with them. They [suggested](https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477221#c1) that I file this bug directly with postmarketOS. The rationale was: >These kinds of faults tend to happen when a library that Kasts depends on gets updated without Kasts itself getting recompiled. Then you can end up with an instruction that has changed in the underlying lib without Kasts knowing about this, leading to a crash. So, I would think it's simply a matter of recompiling the package. I'm not sure where the correct place is to file a bug with postmarketOS. If there is another place where I should do so, then do let me know in the comments below. Thanks.

Here's some facts and tips about repayment plans with the landlord: https://www.acto.ca/production/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/PaymentPlan_Tipsheet_tenants.pdf (taken from this site).
The best thing to do is to pay off the rent and arrears. If it's possible to follow the "rosy" rent plan you put forward, then do it. But, if things don't go well and the landlord begins to pursue eviction, then best to contact a legal clinic: https://www.legalaid.on.ca/legal-clinics/ You may wish to do that anyway.

That did not happen to me; so I'm guessing it's a coincidence.
Hello! Housing is unaffordable in Ontario, but the NDP are putting forward ways to change this. One is [Bill 58](https://www.ola.org/en/legislative-business/bills/parliament-43/session-1/bill-58). This is a bill to put more teeth into stopping the common practice of "renovictions", where landlords kick out tenants, renovate the place, and then rent it later at a much higher price. Here is a petition in support of this bill. Please sign today! https://www.petertabuns.ca/support_bill_58

I'm in Canada, and I bought a Fairphone 2 a few months back. It was shipped overseas from an unofficial dealer, since Fairphone itself no longer deals with the Fairphone 2, and it no longer provides replacement items for the Fairphone 2.
I installed LineageOS on it. It worked great. But recently the battery was showing signs of decay. I looked for a replacement, but nowhere could I find anything. The phone now is just a paperweight.
Granted, it was released almost 8 years ago. But, I think it's a shame that it's no longer supported. I do feel that, if replacements were even more feasible, that this phone of mine could have continued for even longer.

Housing is a complex issue that requires action accross levels of government, but this would seem to shift the onus towards the municipal level, and then handicap said municipality’s ability to meet demand if they do not immediately succeed. [..] if implemented, would be anything but an excuse to cut funding.
Agreed. It just seems to be setting up obstacles rather than helping. Currently, builders prefer to build condos or office towers, rather than rental housing. I don't see these proposals as doing anything other than further frustrating the construction of rental housing.

The construction of rental housing has stalled for a while now. This is due to builders preferring to build either office space or condos. So, there is a need to boost the construction of rental housing.
Poilievre's ideas seem to be of the carrot and stick mentality, with an emphasis on the stick. I don't see that as being a solution to getting more rental housing built. Instead, it likely would end up further frustrating the construction of rental housing.

Coletto said the Liberals' messaging focuses too much on what they've done in the past and not enough on what's next.
Thus, the Liberals need to realize they still have over two years left in their mandate, and start doing some positive stuff. Particularly on housing.

True, but it comes out pretty close. STV would be a huge improvement over our current system of FPTP. My personal favourite though is open list mixed member proportional. But, regardless, I feel it would be good for there to be an unbiased National Citizens Committee on Electoral Reform, to research and make recommendations to the politicians on improvements to our electoral system.
MarkG_108 1 year ago • 100%
The issue that I have with STV is that one of the big parties is always going to win and be in control.
What makes you say that? Are you confusing STV with AV? They are two different things.
See image comparing results of an STV election and an AV election: https://www.fairvote.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Tasmania-and-Western-Australia.png

No one, at least that I'm aware of, has suggested a system like the one Israel has. Generally what's suggested is a hybrid system between PR and FPTP. Open List Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) or Single Transferable Vote (STV) are the two most common examples. Fascist parties don't get enough votes to get a seat in such systems.
And anyway, a Citizens' Assembly, from a non-biased start, would look at and study different issues pertaining to electoral reform. Given the issues with our current system, that can only be a good thing.

New Democrats have raised $2.6 million so far this year — a far cry from the $6.8 million raised by the Liberals or the $16.2 million collected by the Conservatives.
I do wonder why the NDP raises the least of the three parties. I myself regularly donate $20 a month (I can't afford much more), but I know that most people don't even donate this amount. People really should if they want to see a better Canada.

The European Commission is being sued by environmental campaigners over a decision to include gas and nuclear in an EU guide to “green” investments.
Eight national and regional Greenpeace organisations including France, Germany and EU office in Brussels are asking the court to rule the inclusion of gas and nuclear invalid.
I totally support Greenpeace in this. Neither nuclear nor gas should be considered a "green" investment. Ia Aanstoot, the "18 year old climate activist", is wrong to support the European Commission's stance on this.
