Now I only need about 15.000 more followers and 1500 more subscribers on twitch to make it actually a viable thing.

Sadly they did not kick his ass. They sort of settled in the end, but they lost their special status and self governance stuff to a board controlled by DeSantis but he put a few pro Disney faces on that board to get it all to settle. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney_v._DeSantis

I don't know. Disney lost against Ron DeSantis on home turf. Not quite sure what they are going to do against a foreign actor.

Loved it. Every single actor and actress is doing a stellar job. The character arcs are fantastical but also believable due to the obscenely crazy circumstances they all find themselves in during the chosen setting of the show. I am very surprised it has such low ratings, I think it is a triumph in what it set out to accomplish.

The US and the USSR engaged in a race to have the most nukes. After the fall of the Sowjet Union international treaties were put in place to reduce the number of nukes in both east and west.
Don't quote me, but if I remember correctly, at the height of the cold war, both sides had more than 12.000 nukes each.
Humanity had enough fire power to delete the entire globe roughly 40x over then. Why? Because bigger is better.

Anyone who might be surprised that Germany is so low here, Germans are always surprised people think it would be very high.
There is a simple reason, too: Auto-Lobby. Our car manufacturers are very powerful in politics and public infrastructure is heavily underfunded.
Funnily enough, highways and other roads are also crumbling, so good luck to the car makers when there is less and less road to drive those precious machines on.

Recently got into watching older SciFu from the 70s/80s and a chatter on stream suggested "Star Crash" which is very hard to find apparently, had to get it off eBay.
It is basically if some kid watched Star Wars and said "What is this? I can do better than this!" And made it again but 100x worse. It's really awful but in the good kind of way. Even the editing is terrible, there are cuts that make no sense, etc. But it has David Hasslehoff in it!

I put a small flexible light weight one up last year. Secured with steel washcloth line (it doesn't have glass or anything, just a plastic sheet with cells on it), the city replaced the meter to account for feeding in (not needed, I work home office and use up all of it in my apartment) cost me 600 or so last year, plugs into regular wall socket and has already lowered consumption by about 1/10th which is a solid chunk of money with current prices. I am very happy I get to do something as a renter, even if it will take years to pay for itself.

I only picked it up recently and I have put in 230+ hours (granted, some on stream) but I think it is one of the most fun survival games out there for me and a great zombie themed game overall.
I really appreciate the inventory handling, that there are no bosses and just zombies to deal with. My only gripe is - as with many of these games - that there isn't a real end to a playthrough. But such is the nature of a sandbox.
Absolutely not worth the full price tag, but on sale it's an easy recommendation from me.

Yeah, alright. Can you provide an example of how you present the choice during a session? Maybe it's really as simple as being far more on the nose with how you say it?
I've found my players often really do not grasp implied information and it just leads nowhere. But I get the feeling you're already really clear with how you approach it.

You said in another comment that you enjoy DMing a game that has unpredictable results for the DM as well. A lot of good advice has already been given, but might I suggest giving your players more agency that you'd most likely see falling into the realm of the DM usually, so they create unexpected events for you as well?
Say you have the character of your friend destroy said Annis Hag, but blast! she had a curse prepared to fall upon anyone who would dare defy her to the point of death. Now instead of throwing your idea of a punishing burden on the player, you could instead go: "You can feel an evil magic engulfing your very being. It muddles your senses and try as you might, you are incapable of escaping its grasp. As it burns itself into your very bones and soul, you feel one of your abilities weaken. Which ability is affected?"
That way the player retains agency, can pick the least punishing option (in their opinion), have consequences but it doesn't feel like they just got punished for doing well or making a choice just as much as you simply deciding "That's how it is now. Enjoy!". Could also add an element of chance and put it down to a roll of the dice, but that might again feel too arbitrarily punishing to that character.
The curse then mightn't just have that main effect, mind you. But at least the worst one is more down to what the character feels and fears rather than what the DM wants to dish out. It will also give you something to ponder and think about in how to work with whatever the player chose or came up with. You could let them describe how the curse alters their appearance, do they suddenly have a mark on their skin? If so where, what size, shape and color? Now you have a PC with an odd mark of their own imagination and you can build on that. Or the player might come up with horns sprouting from their head, etc. Using this, you can have NPCs react to these changes and really play into them.
Player Agency might help alleviate the feeling of it being a punishing campaign, by giving them some room to breathe in all the pressure and stress.
Hello everyone! After finishing up [The Everfog - Field of Spears ](https://impheim.com/2023/10/the-everfog-field-of-spears-a-single-quest-ttrpg-module/) I got to work on the next single quest module named [Mother of Loam](https://impheim.com/2023/10/mother-of-loam-a-single-quest-ttrpg-module/) In this one you and your table are going to try and help the town of Brockenbrook reclaim their sleep and venture into the haunted Brockenbrack swamps. The art prompt and additional illustrations in the PDF were generously supplied by [ZebraFeatherAH](https://mastodon.social/@ZebraFeatherAH@sunny.garden) over on Mastodon. Hello everyone! A few weeks ago I had an idea for a bit of a creative challenge and collaboration to create single quest modules for ttrpgs. I approached some lovely artists over on Mastodon and some agreed to give this a go. Since I mainly play DND, it's d20 compatible, but can be adopted into (probably) anything. The idea is simple: An artist creates or gives me a piece they've made already without any context or further information. I take what I can see and write a single quest module inspired by the artwork. The Everfog - Field of Spears is the very first one and it's slightly spooky, halloween-y. Another one (with a similar atmosphere) will be released in the next two weeks. https://impheim.com/2023/10/the-everfog-field-of-spears-a-single-quest-ttrpg-module/ Here's the first paragraph from the (free) 4-page PDF: >A mysterious and ancient sickly green pyramid sits at the center of the crater atop the mountain Kaal. The crater is eternally covered in a thick and impenetrable fog that seeps over its edges into the surrounding lowlands. Those that are caught in the fog never return and their bodies are never found. The people living near the phenomenon call it “The Everfog”, as it never seems to dissipate. The people are weary and keep away from the fog, crater and pyramid, saying they are cursed or worse. You can find the full PDF in the blogpost this post links to, as well as a complete audio transcript of the PDF on the blog or over on YouTube. Please also consider checking out the artist and giving them some support: https://mastodon.social/@trizadella This is free for you to use in your (non-commercial) campaign. All we ask is that, if you like it - or want more of it, go and give everyone involved some love and help share it around!
Good day everyone, hope you're doing well! I've made a new video and blog post on the topic of how to deal with sessions where people can't make it. My solution is fairly simple but effective: The Woven Dream, a state of dreaming where party members experience shared dreams. Besides allowing the group to play instead of skipping a session, it also allows you to really dig into the background of any (or all) of the present characters. It's not something that'll work every time, but it has served me really well, and I wanted to share the idea with you. I've also taken the feedback from this and other communities around here and my stuff isn't just videos anymore, but blog posts as well and the blog posts have a full audio narration of the blog post for those that prefer podcasts or to account for accessibility. Hey everyone! I've posted this over on the other DMAcademy community already: https://lemmy.world/post/5350190 but I figured it might be interesting to some people here as well! As a DM, I struggle a lot with juggling all the various things the party should get and receive. One of my greater shortcomings has been dealing with magic items. So to help myself deal with that, I’ve been working on a little system to approach magic items differently. The basic idea is that instead of only letting players loot, be rewarded with or buy magic items, the dungeon master could go and enchant the equipment that the characters already have. This could mean taking a magic item that exists and applying those effects to what they have through various means or creating effects that are fully tailored to not just the character but also the player. The enchantments could come from external sources or even the pure power of the character who carries it. Here’s the blog post going into some depth on it all and including some examples: https://impheim.com/2023/09/magic-items-in-ttrpgs-embrace-enchantments/ And here’s the little video I made on the topic: https://youtu.be/GSnCd2Mbr9U Let me know what you think and if you have any questions!

I'm really interested to hear some opinions and ideas on how you deal with romance between NPCs and PCs. I have barely any issues with RPing most anything, but approaching the more intimate bits like flirting runs into some mental blocks of mine. Any input would be appreciated! Note: Yes, talking to players and establishing expectations, etc. is always the answer. However, I am mainly looking to hear some ideas on how I might change my approach to it, because I'd very much like to be comfortable with all that.
Based on a true story: The Knucklebiter Gnat must be defeated before attempting to go to sleep. If the character fails to destroy it, it will harass them all night and instead of getting the benefits of a long rest, they will gain one point of exhaustion. It's a fun little thing, I think. Everytime the characters find it (investigation/perception vs. its Stealth) they get to make 1 attack against it. If it is not killed, the character may try again. Add more Gnats until the characters give up and simply don't care. Next day hit them with the exhaustion. From now on, you can force your party to have to fight Knucklebiter Gnats now and again because it'll be horribly annoying not to and, as people in real life, they'll get increasingly irritated and extreme in their measures to try and hunt those little monsters down. Ideal for swamp, temperate and desert climates. Bonus for storytelling: After a night with one of those around, narrate every failed skill check or attack with "You cannot concentrate due to the horribly itchy bites left by the Knucklebiter Gnat. Being this distracted, you fail to spot the trap."
I shared one of my battle-maps in some places just now (first time for that, really) and got the request to maybe share the full uncompressed version. My battle-maps tend to be on the larger side and can easily go beyond 15-20mb at times. I have two issues, mainly where I could use some pointers and input: 1. I don't want to lose all my rights (not even implicitly due to some vague TOS or EULA shenanigans) where I upload to and I am not willing to use any Google or Microsoft related services (nor any of the other large IT related companies, really - hence why I use the fediverse). 2. I'd like to be sure I'm not just clogging someones server up with huge files like lemmy for example. Feels wrong to upload such huge files to a free service. Got any advice? Should I use something like a (free) Patreon maybe? Thanks in advance!
Hi everyone! First time I'm sharing one of my maps. Figured, I'd give it a shot, since I am very pleased with the outcome on this one and I made all ships from scratch in Dungeondraft using Forgotten Adventure Assets. You get the grid version (very light grid). Hope it's good for someone and useful as such!
Good day and hello to you! The purpose of this community is for us to have a place to discuss my content as well as your experiences with 4X, Grand Strategy and RPG/TTRPG/VTTRPGames, find some ideas for future things I could start looking into/make and overall, just vibe and hang out. Speaking of which, here's a very short list of relevant links: - Mastodon: https://mastodon.social/@Imperor - YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Imperor Glad you came to join me and have a great day!
Uploaded this again with some better audio-levels. The original was way too low. Hope this is better :)
Asking around in my groups, everyone agreed: Retreat isn't treated as a proper option for most groups, especially newer ones. So I figured I'd make that topic into a new video.
I wanted to branch out a little bit and just try something new for a while. So here it is. The, hopefully, first installment of Imperor's Royal Academy! Starting out with tackling combat and positioning in TTRPGs. Hope it can help someone, especially new people to the hobby. Wondering what the next topic might be. If you got any suggestions, feel free to post.
After nearly 3 years with the same channel intro video, I figured it was time to update. No longer do I play WoW, nor am I looking to get back to it anytime soon. The gist hasn't changed, still mainly unedited, longform gameplay as sort of a podcast in the background. Maybe some more guides like the achievement playlists for Age of Wonders 4, or TTRPGs, roll20, that kind of stuff. Anything you'd like to see me pick up? Note I have grown old and grumpy, so finding something that captivates me is difficult these days.
Here's how you get the achievement: Requirements for the Achievement The Grey Wizard in Age of Wonders 4: 1. Choose a halfling race. 2. Pick any trait or culture. 3. Chose a Wizard King Ruler. 4. Make sure your Ruler is Human. 5. Win the Game with any victory condition. This should work on any difficulty and on any world. Might as well go watch that playlist and leave a sub. How about it? eh? eh? eeeeeeeeeeeh?
Here's how you get the achievement: Requirements for the Achievement Master of Evilness in Age of Wonders 4: 1. Pick a Goblin Race (any features). 2. Select the "Dark" Culture. 3. Select a Human Type Ruler (any kind you'd like). 4. Work towards a Chaos Tome V. 5. Achieve a Magic Victory with the Seed, Root and Heart of Chaos. 6. You might have to be Evil, it sure won't hurt! Feel free to go watch the playlist and maybe even subscribe, if you'd like someone ramble in the background or watch as I work towards the achievement myself!
While I take some issue with the term Fediverse purely on aesthetic grounds, we shal be leaving reddit behind. Surely, we didn't have much of a following then, and we mightn't have one here either. But alas, I shall want to give us an opportunity to grow in peace.
