You’re misunderstanding the situation.
We’re not asking Kamala to get involved in a foreign war. We’re asking Kamala to end the US’s involvement in a foreign war.
I know it’s confusing, because Biden and Harris keep talking as if they’re doing all they can to stop the fighting. But the truth is, Biden and Harris are the ones providing the weapons.
but shouldn't we be more worried about the terrorists on our home soil before fighting foreign lands
Probably, which is why Harris should stop giving weapons and billions of dollars of war funding to Israel.
And the worst part is: I STILL don't know who the bad guy is. Israel? Palestine?
Again, I understand your confusion, because Biden and Harris keep talking about the need to protect Israel. But Israel is the one carrying out a genocide of innocent civilians (with US support).

I’m aware this increases the chances that we end up in Gilead.
(Actually, it doesn't, because I'm not in a swing state.)

Yeah. None of the choices are good.
I can't bring myself in good conscience to vote for Choice A. I wish I could, but I can't. Not unless Harris commits to action on Israel, which is looking increasingly unlikely. I understand we're all dealing with bad options and I understand why some people will still go with Choice A, but I can't. Genocide is a red line for me.
I'm aware this increases the chances that we end up in Gilead.

And “side” is in quotes because they’re not really on your side. They serve the billionaire corporate class, just like the Republicans.

And half of voters are voting for it.
Yes, they’re called Democrats.
This post is about the genocide in Gaza, which is being funded and armed by Joe Biden’s administration, and which Joe Biden could stop at any time simply by telling his Ambassador to the UN to stop vetoing UN resolutions about Israel.
The fact that you want to blame Republicans for this instead of accepting what your own “side” is doing is a good example of why it’s still happening.

uninhabited rocks in the middle of the sea
Well, part of the issue is that they technically aren’t uninhabited anymore.
The largest naturally occurring island in the area is occupied by the ROC. A grand total of four civilians live there (and 220 troops). It has an airport that occupies the entire length of the island.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiping_Island
Is four people enough to claim an island? Taiwan seems to think so, and they are a vital US ally.
HomerianSymphony 3 days ago • 100%
Also Taiwan is claiming to be China and all that because the PRC wants to keep the status quo.
Taiwan actively asserts its ownership of the South China Sea.
https://en.mofa.gov.tw/theme.aspx?n=1462&s=40&sms=294
China's claim is the same as Italy claiming the whole Mediterranean as their own because at some point the Roman empire claimed it
The claims of both the PRC and the ROC are based on their continued and historical use of certain islands in the sea. Vietnam makes the same claim. The tribunal ruled that those islands are too small to count. (Vietnam accepted the ruling. The PRC and the ROC both rejected the ruling.)
The Philippines, Malaysia, and Brunei base their claims to the sea on the concept of an Exclusive Economic Zone, which under international maritime law extends 200 nautical miles from their shores.

Doesn’t that describe Vietnam?
We're achieving our goals in Ukraine right now, as we did in all my examples above.
Is your point that the US goes to war to fund the military industrial complex rather than to achieve victory? Because otherwise I’m not understanding your point.
I don’t think any of those conflicts (including Ukraine) went the way the US wanted them to.

Don’t forget Vietnam and Korea.
The US is constantly enmeshed in wars, but when was the last time Americans actually won one? 1945?
That was 79 years ago. Almost one whole Biden.

How can this story not be true? I heard about it on facebook from someone who says she heard about it from her neighbour, who heard about it from her daughter, who heard about it from a friend.
This stranger's neighbour's daughter's friend saw Haitians carving up her cat with her own eyes.
Do people honestly have no ability to spot a bullshit rumor? She didn't even claim she saw it with her own eyes, or that she knows someone who saw it with their own eyes. She literally says it was a friend of a friend of a friend.

Just to elaborate, my first thought was: “I dislike this anti-Communist Cold War-era hysteria. I’ll post something to try to counter this hysteria.”
And then I realized: Wait. People are going to think I’m “defending” Russia against accusations of being Communist, and I’m tired of people attacking me for being “pro-Russia”, so I deleted it almost immediately.
So, basically, I’ve started to self-censor my thoughts because I find the toxicity of Lemmy exhausting. Go enjoy hunting your Reds under the Bed, and I’m going to do something better with my time, like go outside.
I really wanted Lemmy to work out, but it’s clear to me that this place is as bad as Reddit, just in a different way.

For instance, we’ve seen cases of people using this chart to imply that we have Donald Trump forecasted to win the election by 10 or 11 points. The biggest landslide since Reagan in 1984! But that’s not at all what this chart is saying. Rather, it displays the probability that Trump will win the Electoral College — which is about 55 percent in our forecast, compared to about 45 percent for Harris.
I'm not seeing any disinformation on Linkerbaan's part. Linkerbaan posted the chart with its correct title.

The Opium wars were part of the century of humiliation.
In mainland China, the century of humiliation is considered to have ended in 1949 with the founding of the People's Republic of China. In Taiwan, the century of humiliation is considered to have ended in 1945, when the ROC became a founding member of the United Nations with a permanent seat on the UN security council. (That seat was transferred to the PRC in 1971.)

Remember Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Philippines and Malaysia are US allies.
It's a little more than just being allies.
The South Korean military is under US control. (South Korea has symbolic control during peace time, but "operational control" reverts to the US during wartime.) South Korea has been asking the US to give them operational control of their own army for decades, but the US has never done so.
And Japan does not have its own army. As per the US-Japan Security Treaty (which was forced on Japan after WWII), the US military is in charge of the defense of Japan. The US has more troops in Japan than in any other foreign country.
