I have owned many e-readers over the years. I have a Kobo Clara HD right now and really like it. I use Calibre ebook management software to load books on it. You can jailbreak anything using calibre's built-in de-drm features.

I'm fascinated by extreme minimalism, but not sure it's for me. I'll watch these as inspiration, tho.

I love Shannon Torrens. She has such an easygoing style, and seems like a genuinely nice person. Who do you like to watch?

I don't mind the aesthetic posts when the sub is new and small, but eventually I would like to read more about people living with less junk.

I'm hoping we can make this the new community. It's one of the only R subs I miss.
!minimalism@lemmy.world Is the latest one I've found. I can find it if I go to my instance in the web, but not within the app.

I believe in most Democrat state primaries, delegates are apportioned based on the percentage of vote. On the Republican side, most state GOP primaries are Winner Takes all.
Even so, the Democratic "No change!" candidate always wins.

Also the way primaries work... Such low participation that only the radical voters turn out.

I am an Italian living in America, so I know what you mean. But Italians can definitely throw no stones about crazy politicians getting elected.

Definitely when Bender eats one fat free potato chip and a pile of bricks fall out his ass. Fry never comments on it.
Olestra was a fat-free "oil" manufacturers were using in potato chips, and there was a bunch of press about it causing diarrhea.

If my mother wasn't 93 and acting like a toddler, I'd have left her there alone.

I'm shocked by the content I've seen over there. I know quite a few reddit users IRL and none of them support what spez is doing. I think you are right about AI being involved in some if the posts.

She has a stomach like cast iron, and wanted greasy fried food.
The weird part is, she's from Italy and is a big food snob, but when she comes to the US she wants to eat gross food.

I joined Lemmy.click because the bigger instances were having timeouts when I tried to sign up. I see those issues have been resolved now, but I like the idea of keeping other instances populated.

I'm glad you're feeling better, and that at least you didn't have to go to an unqualified clergy "therapist."
It is too bad, however, that they didn't take your mental health seriously enough to give you a break from service.

Gabapentin. Miracle drug.

Yeah, exactly. My migraine got much worse as the night wore on. I took a ton of gabapentin and Ubrelvy just to get through it.

I seem to be having trouble responding to some comments.
To answer a few points, my mother is in her 90s. She is not suffering from dementia, but she doesn't deal well with not getting her way. She throws tantrums in public. So it is easier just to go along with her wishes. One of my sisters had the police called on her for elder abuse once because my mother was throwing such a fit about how mean her daughter was to random strangers. Edit: if you've seen the episode of Malcolm in the Middle where Lois's evil mother comes to visit, and they call the police on her when she refuses to leave, and she plays the pity card to the cops and almost gets Hal arrested? That's my mother.
This trip was the first time I had seen her in 2 years. I took her to the casino with the agreement that I would wait outside, but of course she pretended to be looking for me in the casino, security called me thinking she was lost, and when I went in she insisted we go eat there rather than heading back to the vacation rental. I couldn't exactly leave my elderly mother there and go back to the vacation rental without her.
I got home a week ago and don't plan on calling her for a while. I am still pissed off.

I became an atheist when I was about 9 years old. I didn't tell anyone in my family until I was over 50 years old. I still keep it quiet in mixed company. I am damned lucky I was able to find a partner who was raised an atheist.

I hope you're feeling better.
It's so irritating when people pull this religious BS on sick people. I was diagnosed with three forms of cancer and facing surgery and an uncertain future. The number of people who told me "I'll pray for you" was shocking. Like, I need someone to do my laundry or bring me some groceries, not sit on their ass and feel bad.
What are some of your favorite quotes about atheism? "Christianity is the religion of love the same way Islam is the religion of peace." - Richard Dawkins I added a painting by Artemisia Gentileschi for fun.

I've always thought it was a part of my own intuition that expressed itself as clairaudience. Like, some part of my brain notice I was losing balance, and to get my attention it yelled at me.
Brains are complicated things. I used to believe in the paranormal, but now I'm not so sure.

After a year of having a totally useless free subscription to Peacock thanks to my cable internet provider, I am being cut off this month. Of course, a new show is coming on in a couple of months that I would like to watch. Any good sources for that kind of content? It's not a popular TV series or a movie, so I'm not sure where to hunt. Hasn't been released yet but I would like to be ready. I am pretty new to pirating streaming content. Back in the day, I mainly used napster/frostwire/limewire/torrent clients to download video files, and then watch them locally. I'm open to other options though.
I'm wondering about those of you who commute to work now and then. For some reason I have a hard time minimizing what I carry with me. I don't have a car, so when I leave the house I need to have everything I might need on my back. It leads to me carrying all kinds of crazy things, like a multi-tool and a flashlight. Do any of you have a minimalist setup for your bike or bus commute?
Just found this sub from reddit. Glad to see the community here!
