If anyone wants to try printing one for themselves I've uploaded it to Cults3D https://cults3d.com/en/users/Doctor-Spork/3d-models

Yeah, sorry. I think I messed it up trying to add the thumbnail picture. That should be it fixed now.

Cheers.
These were the first four that I did for a game of Necromunda at BOYL, So the rest should end up looking like them.
Painting my space wizard was a fun little distraction, but genestealers don't paint themselves. I've got my infantry base coated so it's time to give them a good wash. And I've got a little squat that Chris at Ontos Games gave me at BOYL for when I'm sick of batch painting cultists.

Squiggly beasts were fantastic, but I have to disagree about the Zoanthrope I've always loved it. I am a bit odd though.
Having thought I would be chasing this forever due to the fact I didn't want to pay £50-100 for one I managed to grab this for a tenner. Even better, when it arrived it appears to be in near mint condition. Oh happy days!

Josh has a really clean simple style for doing NMM that doesn't look to out of place on older miniatures (you can see it in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1OAylxlbyc ) so hopefully I'll be able do something like that in future.
In the painting guide I posted in reply to another comment Mike McVey describes his method for painting gold start with a white base coat then paint a mix of gold and yellow ink over it. That is such a mad concept to me that you would paint gold over white.

Cheers, I'm not so sure about the metallics myself. I've been getting lessons from Josh at the Crown of Command podcast and he has really pushed my colours and highlighting to the next level, but the next lesson is non metal metallics which I am hoping will really improve that part of my painting as currently I think it is lacking.

I love how 3D printing has let me bring some classic bit of scenery back to life. I printed this off on an Ender 3 with no supports. If anyone has a 3D printer and wants on for themselves it's available over on Cults 3D https://cults3d.com/en/users/Doctor-Spork/3d-models
I always wanted one of these, but the prices these days are beyond ridiculous. So when I got the chance to buy this (nearly complete) one for 50 euros I did not hesitate. Can't wait to do some fabrication and bring this pile of scrap back to it's former glory.

Cheers, I've always loved adding little embellishments to models. One day I might try to sculpt a miniature from scratch.
I did a little bit of sculpting on a 3D print of the old Warhammer Quest wizard, I'm planning on using him as a 40k imperial psyker
Josh was kind enough to invite me on to discuss my first white dwarf, issue 169 with the cardboard battle bunker. So if you have 20 minutes to waste why not give it a watch.

I should be up for that, I've really been getting into the swing of things with my painting recently.
Been working away on these pair for a while. After seeing how much it was going to cost to buy an original I decided to make my own. One is inspired by the classic kit, the other by the original scratch built model from the Rogue Trader rule book. Both were printed on my Ender 3 with no supports. They are available on my Cults3D page if anyone is interested. https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/retro-space-knight-heavy-apc
Now I just need to get better at taking pictures

I tidied up and uploaded my chaos predator proxy to cults3d. I wanted a rhino for my bezerkers so they could chop up everyone up a bit quicker so decided to design my own. Before answering your questions I'd just like to say that you are off to a great start. The figure in the main picture has a good movement to it and feels like a natural pose.

If you don't already keep a bits box. This should be where you keep spare parts from sprues or that you have cut off any models you have been kit bashing. I also chuck in things that might be useful that would otherwise end up in the bin, wire, mesh, tubes, scraps of plastic packaging that can be repurposed, just whatever you think might be useful.
-
I use unscented Dettol. Leave plastic or metal in it overnight and use some fresh Dettol and a toothbrush to clean them up. Just be sure to put plenty of paper down underneath as the paint gunk dries and can pretty much only be cleaned up by scrubbing it with more Dettol.
-
Looking at your other comments I would also recommend the Howling Griffons, but if you have a colour scheme that you think would look cool just use that and make yourself a nice successor chapter. Personally one of the things I have always enjoyed about 40k is being able to make up your own lore.
One last piece of advice if you plan to do more sculpting with putty. Try getting your hands on some greenstuff, it is my modelling putty of choice and gives the best finished product in my opinion.

I like them, but I'm not too fussy about my paints. Some of the colours come out really nice an vibrant, the red and turquoise on this model are both Coat De Arms.
They are a lot like the citadel paints from the late 80s, although I'm not sure that is a good thing for most folks. Compared to modern paint they are quite thin and need at least two (often more) coast to get decent coverage.

You seem to have found it, sadly I don't think you get amazing trophies for this competition.
This fella was an ebay rescue that came with so much paint on it that I wasn't sure if he was actually this model. So I stripped him and did my best to give him a new lease of life as the first of my Emperors Children. And now he is my entry for the fedipaint painting contest over on Mastodon.

And boy are they bigger than I expected. Thanks @setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world, they are great but I have no idea where I will keep them.

Can you find anyone who provides samples?
I have used this website (UK based so no help to you I'm afraid) in the past and they provide small quantities of filament for you try https://3dfilaprint.com/filament-samples/
Might be worth having a look around to see if there is anyone stateside who does a similar service.
can I recommend the latest episode of The Bedroom Battlefields Tabletop Miniature Hobby Podcast? Matthew was kind enough to invite me on to talk nonsense about what I like to get up to with miniatures and being a warhammer nerd on the 90's. Just search “Tabletop Miniature Hobby Podcast” on whatever you listen to podcasts.

This fella is my entry to the painting competition. He has very much been a labour of love. A long time ago in the mists of time (2nd/3rd edition 40k) I made myself a Bloodaxe Warboss and being a teenager I gave him the most puerile name I could get away with actually using in a GW store. So after doing my research I decided on Bignob Grimshag. Bignob is obvious he is literally a big ork nob and Grimshag was found to be an ork name used in an old deck of GW's combat cards. He had a commissar's peaked cap, a huge set of epaulettes that I crudely sculpted from green stuff and a chest of medals (stolen from commissars he had krumped). Sadly, like almost all my miniatures from those days, he has been lost to the winds of time so I as I rejoined the hobby I thought it would be a good idea to resurrect him. Being interested in 3D printing I started off by doing a 'digital conversion', taking parts from about 20 different sculpts that I found online and squishing, scaling and slicing them up to create a starting point that I then added a load of green stuff to. I even hand sculpted the epaulettes as I had on the original, although this time they aren't quite as crude. ![](https://sopuli.xyz/pictrs/image/0c4d954d-6683-4a79-ac16-63ce5ba737f9.jpeg) He had been languishing for a while as I got distracted by the dozens of other hobby projects I start and put aside to move on to the next one. So when I saw the painting competition on here I decided that this would give me the motivation to finish him off. All he needed now was a pet, so I jumped onto ebay to find him a squig. After a quick browse I found a Kev Adams sculpt from 4th ed. WHFB that used to be part of my old Orc and Goblin army and the nostalgia removed a few notes from my wallet. Meet 'Oi!' ![](https://sopuli.xyz/pictrs/image/700ec0de-0ab7-4516-b31d-664d4904d410.jpeg) 'Oi!, GET 'IM' I hope you like them both and good luck to everyone entering.
I'm going to be putting him to use as an attack Squig in 40k, but originally he was designed to get his bum poked by some Night Goblins.

I've just finished tweaking this Leman Russ proxy, inspired by the very original model released for Epic back in the 80s. It's designed to be easy to print in FDM (no supports required for printing), the one pictured was printed on a stock Ender 3. I'm fairly happy with how this one turned out, I've a little bit of tidying up to do, but hope to have the model up on Cults3D next week.
