They're usually just liars acting as a filter between the game and the interested customers.

Instead of just showing the have, they cut what doesn't look good and make it appear as something more than it is. That's their job.

It's not adding value. Peak marketing executed perfectly is just misleading enough to increase sales beyond what just seeing the game would do, without making the customers mad enough to have a negative impact.

I make a rare exception for actual artistry, like some of the WoW expansion cinematics. It's still pretty misleading, but they're pretty.

As for the next Elder Scrolls, I don't think Bethesda has the devs to make it fun or interesting. From what I've seen from them, they are not particularly competent.

I've been saying this for a long time – the working class is no longer culturally aligned with the left after it became so serious about not tolerating rude, crude, insensitive men.

    Those are working class men.

Politically opposing the break room behavior of the guys you claim to represent doesn't work well. I still think there are enough of them in principle in support of various rights that they would make up a good majority of it was just about that, but the 2010's push to punish insulting humor and misgendering lost too many, it's now only supported by a minority of working class men. That is why going as far as Trump became a viable option for the GOP.

The difference between Bush and Trump represents, to me, the difference between two things. The working class's support for "live and let live" style rights to be with and become what you want, and in contrast is their objection to the expansion of "don't be rude, shut up, play along" style restrictions on speech in various social arenas.

I really believe that if the left had clearly rejected the wesk minority's desire for.enforcement of political correctness, it would have either a more comfortable lead, or a close race against someone less extreme.

    The left rejected their base.

    Because they were crude.

Instead of changing course, the left would rather just judge and lose. "Look at those men! They are not ethical! They are not smart! They shouldn't choose him over us! We are better for them!"

But you make no sacrifice to win them back.

You'd rather roll your eyes, sigh, and let it happen.

Starlink seems like a genuinely interesting and useful technology, in some ways.

But it also seems like it might not be worth having.

I'm thinking they might need to be deorbited, but I'm not confident in that yet. It sounds like it might be fixable in a new generation of Internet constellation satellites.

Idk how long the issue should be tolerated to wait for that, though. And while Starlink has a good amount of customers this kind of Internet is genuinely useful for, it's still not a lot compared to all the other internet services.

Maybe Starlink deorbiting should come along with an expansion of the traditional communications network. But maybe it would be extremely expensive to reach Starlink's customers with towers or cables.

    And also completely expected.

We'll likely reach German Nazi levels of hateful sentiment this century almost ten years ahead of them. Our 1935 will be somewhere around 2025-2029. They're not going to go, "Oh, nevermind, we're actually okay with the immigrants now. Forget all the mass deportation, back the blue, and returning lynching threats. We're good."

Recently I haven't even opened Lemmy

Too many users here prefer smaller communities and have openly stated they aren't interested in making accommodations to pursue growth to a truly large platform, even if it could be. Lemmy is the sort of site that will linger in the background and quietly die out, it'll occassionally be mentioned in the same sorts of conversation that bring up old alternatives like voat, rare conversations with few readers. I had some optimism at the growth spurt, but seeing what the opinions of users here were, that hope turned into cynicism. As I forgot about Lemmy, it's irrelevance was reinforced. It would be best, I think, if this foundation could replace its competitors. But I don't think it's going to happen. I don't think you want common idiots to like the site.

Anyone know if reddit hides comments with strange links?

I posted a comment with a link to an article on CNN and several links to architecture and construction websites. It seems like reddit doesn't like comments with untrusted links? Are they being subtly hidden from the thread? If this is being done at any scale at all I wonder if it's a significant cause of the feeling that the internet has shrunk into a few main sites, linking to a recognizable relatively small selection of news and media sources.

Weird question, but anyone know if wire EDM can be bent at all?

I saw some clay sculpting tools and started thinking it would be sweet to cut metal with something like that. The tools I saw are apparently called pottery ribbon tools, so more of a ribbon than a wire then.

Why does it seem like some of my sweaters have a soft and loose "lint layer" on the inside?

It's always particularly nice and soft the first time you put it on, but the one I got most recently is so bad it leaves a thin but thorough coat of black fur on my arms when I take it off. What's the production methods used when making sweaters like this?

Why does the Posts>All>Active/Hot feed flood with new content sometimes?

Isn't that supposed to only happen on Posts>All>New? Shouldn't Active/Hot posts require some existing engagement before appearing? Does lemm.ee sometimes sync with federated instances, which is when new content floods en masse? This is one of the experiences I've had that makes Lemmy feel far more janky than reddit.com/r/all

"help" just means "a conversation" and that really doesn't make a difference worse, it's like you're saying "If you have cancer, treatment is available." but what you're actually offering is a daily bowl of fairly healthy soup. you're running exaggerated, optimistic advertising.

Idk if I think lemm.ee is a good alternative.

I think this place is too fragmented into instances to ever generate a front page anywhere near what r/all is. If I understand this page right, https://lemm.ee will never show the top post of the day from https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/, https://discuss.tchncs.de/, or https://feddit.uk/. And the "front page/general" site is already split into several instances (https://vlemmy.net/, https://lemmy.world/, https://sh.itjust.works/, https://lemmy.fmhy.ml/ and https://lemmy.one/, all claiming to be "a general front page lemmy instance") So what's the deal, which one are we betting on as ***the place*** to direct all the new traffic? What's the contender for primary public internet bulletin board? Right now the arrow to an alternative is looking like this: https://i.imgur.com/L1XsBy6.pngd I'm personally guessing the conclusion is already reached; We have no place we're betting on. We're disinterested in pushing for any particular result. We don't expect people to migrate. Many might not even want them to.
