Hey All, I'm looking for a good softphone in Linux. I tried Linphone, but it had the same issue I had in Windows where I could send texts ok, but can't send and receive calls. In Windows, I used Microsip since it worked as soon as I configured it. Linphone seems to be "special." Any suggestions? And I don't care about video calls.

Managed to fix it myself, but with Gnome Extensions. I suspected the issue started when I installed Gnome Tweaks. But maybe it was Gnome Extensions.
I opened Gnome Extensions, scrolled down to User Themes, turned it on and in the selection menu selected Pop Dark. It defaulted to default. Once I did that, the Applications window looked right again. Why it only affected the Applications window, I have no idea yet. But now it looks right.

Thanks! That fixed my rogue OpenRGB icon!
Hey all, noob here. In the system settings of Pop OS I chose dark mode. At first everything was fine. But something happened. This issue is only happening in the Show Applications area. It is dark mode, but the text is all black instead of switching over to a lighter color like it did before. Makes it tough to read as you can see in the screenshot. I've tried flipping to light mode and then back to dark mode several times of varying length with no success. Any tips to get it back to normal? Bonus issue: I have uninstalled OpenRGB, but it is still showing up in the app list as you can see in the screenshot. Any way to remove it? If I reinstall OpenRGB, I get a second icon.

I've run a Raspberry Pi with PiHole for years on top of playing with Pi's and trying out distros with USB boot. I'm new to the day to day reality of living with Linux. So yeah, I'm still shifting my mindset to full time Linux. Great thing is Linux has improved so much. It's a long way better than trying to install Slackware in the late 90s.
And I went burn-the-ships with this move. I'm not dual booting, I backed up files, and formatted everything.

I found a comment on another website that said you have to install Steam/Lutris from the PopOS Deb package and not the flatpak. I know they were installed by flatbak from the Pop OS store. So uninstalled and reinstalled as the Deb package and I can know swap the install directory for games to another drive. One more step down in my Linux switch.

So just got my computer switched over to Pop! OS. When I open the Pop Shop, the installers don't give me an option to change the location of the app installs. I have 4 disks, 2 nvmes, 2 hard disks. I would prefer to install some of my apps to the 2nd nvme, which I have mounted to /Apps. Mainly the games I will play, along with Stream and Lutris. Would I need to install from the terminal with apt or nala? I installed nala because it looks cleaner, but we'll see.

Been a while so I checked in on PlutoTV to see how it looks after being bought out, and it seems they got rid of all their geeky and quirky channels. Now the majority of their channels are dedicated to one show instead of a genre. The train channel for instance was always relaxing and fun to chill. I don't see any of the tech channels they used to have. Anyone know if those channels are still around on another service? I noticed the Plex Live TV channels are mostly dedicated to one show instead of a genre, so I'm not sure if this is an industry wide change. Too bad, PlutoTV seemed like the 90s cable niche channels before the major networks bought them all out and turned them into reality TV dumping grounds.

Lions Win 42-24. My Offensive MVP: Jared Goff 20/28, 236 yds, 3 TD, 0 INT, and 1 running TD. Dude was just smooth all game long. No St Brown and Gibbs? No problem. Took advantage of the short fields from the defense and turned them into touchdowns instead of field goals. My Defensive MVP: Aidan Hutchinson, 3 tackles, 1 sack, and an interception. My defensive MVP was going to be Alex Anzalone with 8 tackles and 3 assists, but that roughing the passer penalty was enough for me to flip. My Villain: The Panthers' offensive line. They pushed this defensive front around, and kept Brice Young upright WAY more than I thought they would. That's two years in a row, they have our defensive front's number for some reason.
Panthers vs Lions at Ford Field Sorry the game thread is late, was catching up on yard work this morning and it took longer than I thought. :) Go Lions!
Carolina Panthers (0-4) @ Detroit Lions (3-1) Sunday, Oct 8th at 1pm Vegas: Lions by 8.5 Panthers last game: Lost to the Vikings, 13-21 Panthers travel to Ford Field winless with a rookie QB to face a ferocious Detroit pass rush. Bryce Young has a respectable 65% completion percentage, but the good news stops there. With 503 total yards, 4.9 yards/attempt, and 2 TDs with 2 INTs those are rookie numbers. For comparison Goff is 91 of 132, 69.5%, 1029 yards, 7.8 yards/attempt, with 6 TDs against 3 INTs. Last year the Lions visited Carolina and got run over. The Panthers racked up 320 yards rushing on their way to a 37-23 win over the Lions. That better not happen again, and based on how our front 7 has been crushing it lately, it should not happen. Meanwhile the Panthers defense is giving up 25.5 points per game, which isn't good enough to overcome an anemic offense. Rookie QB! MEAT'S BACK ON THE TABLE BOYS!
NFL reduces Jamo's suspension to go along with a change in their gambling policy. Jamo will be with the Lions on Monday and be available for the Carolina game.
Detroit Lions 34 - Green Bay Packers 20 King in da Norf! King in da Norf! King in da Norf! King in da Norf! My Offensive MVP: David Montgomery My Defensive MVP: Jerry Jacobs
The Detroit Lions at The Green Bay packers for early North supremacy!
Lions (2-1) vs Packers (2-1) 8:15PM, Lambeau Field Last week: Green Bay pulled off a come from behind victory against the Saints, 18-17. What can you say. Packers and Lions for the early North lead. The BAD MAN is gone, and Love is in his place. Love is weird. He's played good but there are some BUTS to his performance. His completion percentage is just 53.1%, and he's thrown for just 656 yards for the season. Both those stats put him towards the very bottom of the league, yet he has 7 TDs vs 1 INT which puts him towards the top of the league. For comparison, Goff is at 69.9% and 819 yards with 5 TDs vs 2 INTs, and Goff hasn't really put his best foot forward yet. Yet the Packers are 2-1. Love is doing just enough to put the Packers in a position to win. The Packers defense looks fairly stout, but have the 6th worst rush defense thus far, which includes a rushing gashing by the Falcons, who beat the Packers. Then again, Rashan Gary returned from injury last week and feasted on the Saints. Will Love's warning signs catch up to him? Will the Lions exploit the Packers' run defense? Will the Packers' hold on the Lions past shine through? Will the Lions crank it up and make Tom Grossi cry? Don't forget to tweet at Grossi for every great play that Brian Branch makes, a new and busy tradition. This is looking more and more like an exciting game. LET'S GET IT ON!
Lions win! My Defensive MVP: the whole defense. Held the Falcons to 6 points, 44 yards rushing, and 7 sacks. My offensive MVP: Amon-Ra St Brown, 9 receptions for 102 yards.
Falcons vs Lions At Ford Field 1pm, TV: FOX Vegas: Lions favored by 3, over/under 46.5 pts. Lions are starting to resemble a MASH unit. Bears Defensive Coordinator Alan Williams stepped down/was fired. Rumors swirling around this one, it could end up ugly. Despite the Bears 0-2 start, this may have nothing to do with football. Vikings traded for Ram RB Cam Akers. Just what we needed, the Vikes with a run game again. Guess letting go of Davin Cook was a mistake, eh?
Not a great start for the health of the team. CJ Gardner-Johnson, S was placed on IR Emmanuel Moseley, CB is questionable Josh Reynolds, WR is questionable Kerby Joseph, S is questionable David Montgomery, RB is questionable Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR is questionable James Houston, LB was placed on IR Taylor Decker, OT is questionable Halapouivaati Vaitai, G is questionable Khalil Dorsey, CB was placed on IR 9/16 Josh Paschal, DE was placed on IR 9/16
Sorry for late post, but It has been a week for me thus far. The Atlanta Falcons are 2-0, with their last game a 25-24 win over the Packers. I admit I haven't watched the Falcons yet, so this is just based on stats. The Falcons look like a run heavy team. Bijan Robinson leads the way with 180 yards on 29 carries for 6.2 yards per carry. Sharing carries with Bijan is Tyler Allgeier with 123 yards on 31 carries, for 4.0 yards per carry. So yeah, not only do they like to run the ball, they're good at it too. QB Desmond Ridder through 2 games is 34 of 50 (68%) for 352 yards with 2 TDs and 1 INT. Not world beating numbers, but efficient. And when you're run game is that good, you don't put up gawdy QB stats. Injuries: Troy Andersen, LB - Questionable for Sunday Players on IR (This stretches into the preseason): Eddie Goldman, DT Penny Hart, WR Matt Hennessy, C Adetokunbo Ogundeji, LB Ikenna Enechukwu, DE Feleipe Franks, TE Ethan Greenidge, OT Avery Williams, CB
Seattle Seahawks vs Detroit Lions Ford Field, Detroit Michigan, 1PM TV: FOX Injury Update: Detroit: Khalil Dorsey, CB, OUT Emmanuel Moseley, CB, OUT Josh Paschal, DE, OUT Taylor Decker, OT, Doubtful Frank Ragnow, C, Status not specified. Because that whole defense has that dog in them.
Seattle Seahawks (0-1) vs Detroit Lions (1-0) Ford Field, Sunday, Sept 17th, 1pm on FOX **Last week:** Lions 21 - Chiefs 20 Rams 30 - Seahawks 13 **Last Meeting:** Oct 2nd, 2022 @ Ford Field: Seattle 48 - Lions 45: A barn burner that we dropped in that 1-6 start. Our defense has taken a gigantic step forward since that game. Seattle is in for a shock. In week 1 Seattle got Stafford-smashed by the Rams. Stafford was 24/38 for 334 yards in a script we're well familiar with. The Rams allowed very little pressure on the QB. Meanwhile, Seattle had both their starting OTs go down with injuries and the offense just sputtered. Geno Smith was 16/24 for 116 yard in a performance we're all too familiar with in lean years. Has the Geno Smith Cinderella magic run out? Seattle's defense didn't look great. No pressure on Stafford, zero sacks or interceptions. How much of all this is just week 1 flux and how much of this is a trend? Just have to play the games and find out. **Seattle Injuries:** Devon Witherspoon (Rookie CB) - Questionable with a strained hammy. Charles Cross (OT) - Questionable with turf toe. Abraham Lucas (OT) - Questionable with knee soreness. All these guys are a wait and see as the week progresses. If both Seattle's starting tackles are out or playing hurt, Hutch and company are going to feast. **Detroit Injuries:** Emmanuel Moseley (CB) - Questionable with an ACL tear from last year. Likely not playing. Brian Branch (S) - Questionable for week 2. Left the Chiefs game with cramps. Likely playing. **Outlook:** This looks and smells like a Detroit win. If the Seahawks can't generate pressure on the QB, Goff will feast. With both Seattle's OTs dinged, it is looking like a long, long day for Geno Smith. If Seattle is relying on last year's game tape to break down the Lions, they are in for a rude shock. On the other hand, if Seattle can get DK Metcalf and Kennith Walker III going, it could be a problem for us.
Holy shit, we did it!
Lions vs Chiefs Kickoff 8:20PM TV: NBC News: KC TE Travis Kelce is confirmed OUT for today.
Lions at the Chiefs 8:20pm You know that funny feeling you have right now? The one you haven't felt in decades if ever? That's the feeling that the Lions are a real, legit NFL team.
Welcome back! It's FOOTBALL SEASON! We open up at Arrowhead Stadium against the Kansas City Chiefs, the defending Super Bowl champion. Thursday, 8:20PM, where the Chiefs will raise their Super Bowl banner. **Why we won't win**: Defending Super Bowl champions. Number 1 offense in the league. They are what the Lions want to be. Been there, done that, they absolutely know how to win. They have the best and most creative QB in the league with Patrick Mahomes. One of the better TE's in the league with Travis Kelce. And this team isn't all offense. They have a stout defense to back it all up. Plus, they have this coach named Andy Reed, one of the best coaches in all of football, who's had all off season to concoct something for us. **Why we will win**: On the KC side, their best defensive player, maybe the best defensive player in the league, defensive tackle Chris Jones, is holding out for a contract extension. It appears he's out for the game as of this writing, and that his a huge blow to the Chiefs. We had a top 5 offense last year. Ben Johnson returned to call the offensive shots despite having head coaching opportunities. You know we have something special brewing here if an assistant turned that opportunity down. Goff is back and is as unflappable as ever. Amon-Ra St Brown is a legit #1 receiver who is highly underrated. Jamo is suspended, but we achieved that top 5 offense without him the majority of last year. With Montgomery and Gibbs, our RB position is upgraded with more pass catching ability. Remember when Montgomery would slash us for yards when playing the Bears? Now we have that going for us. Rookie TE LaPorta has already won the starting job and is looking good. Defensively, this is NOT the same defense that started 2022. The returning players all have grown as that 8-2 close out of last year was mainly defensive improvement. Our secondary has been completely revamped through free agency. Rookies Jack Campbell (LB, starting) and Brian Branch (S, not starting yet) will help boost this defense. And don't sleep on Branch, he looked good in the preseaon. Don't be surprised if he's a starter by the end of the year. We ended last year strong and look to keep that roll going this year. **Outlook**: I had this game a loss when it was first announced, and I don't see that changing. A win is a possibility because this isn't the same old Lions, and this team should be an upgrade over last year. But as long as Mahomes is their QB, the Chiefs can score a whole lot of points in very little time. Who knows, maybe we catch them with a Super Bowl hangover while their best defensive player is holding out.
It is starting....

While we're in the dead season for NFL/Lions news, I have some questions for everyone: 1) Can everyone else post new topics? I unchecked the "mods only" option. So theoretically anyone can make a post. Can someone do that so I can rest comfortably? Probably just because we're in the dead season, but I'd rather find out now rather than once training camp starts. 2) What kind of features do you want in this community? Game/Post-game threads are the no brainers. What else? Anyone seen some automation for this? 3) Anyone planning to go to training camp? Want to give us your impressions? 4) Does anyone(s) want to do a Tuesday scouting report for the next opponent during the season?
Are we going to block Meta's Threads.net? I get it if people want to keep things open. However, Meta is a proven bad actor. They claim they didn't put in ActivityPub because it was too complicated to get it done at launch, and they can't get EU approval of their service because of the rampant and invasive data they gather. IMHO, they are going to attempt to muscle the fediverse out of the equation.
This evening as I'm browsing Lemmy, I'm getting nostalgic for the other, past experiences of something new and rough around the edges. I open a tab to [We Distribute](www.wedistribute.org), and find an article on [Radio Free Fedi](https://wedistribute.org/2023/06/radio-free-fedi/). I read it and click the link to [Radio-browser.info](https://www.radio-browser.info/). I click around exploring some music. Notice there is a Home-Assistant integration. Then I fire up my instance of Home-Assistant to install it. LOL, I already have it installed. I click around exploring radio stations. I'm reminded of the early internet days of icecast streams playing in Winamp. New, exciting, rough around the edges. I pull at threads of memory. I browse to [SomaFM](https://somafm.com/) and fire up Groove Salad in WinAmp. I listen, I chill, I pull at threads farther back. I pick up my Kindle and open up the book, *Neuromancer*. Reading, grooving, chilling. I'm remembering a past that didn't quite exist, reading about an imagined 80s future that never quite came to be. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.
So what are your expectations of the Lions for this year? For me, I want a playoff win. Winning the division is a bonus, and likely needed to get a home playoff game, which increases the chance of winning. This is certainly a big step up from what we're used to seeing. What are you looking for?
Bummer, I thought his suspension was a prime candidate for a reduction. But the league screwed the Lions, then did a hard pass on everyone else. Mission accomplished.
