You can just search terms right within Element to find public "rooms" (like a Discord Server). There's rooms for all kinds of things. There are private rooms, too, but someone in the room would have to send you a link to it.

I love the Element client for Matrix. I use it with my friends and I have joined a lot of communities on there. It's Discord-like, but I personally find it much easier to navigate than Discord. It's free, open source, decentralized, you can self-host if that's your jam, it's got some solid security and usability features, call quality is great, and I've found it to be very stable and reliable. I'm a little biased because I personally don't like Discord, I find the UI clunky and unpleasant to use, but I love using Element. If you love Discord, you will find Element familiar, but you may or may not appreciate the differences.

I mean, she's straight up said she thinks that trans women are not women and that she believes being transgender is a mental illness. She said she'd rather go to jail than be forced to call trans people by their preferred pronouns (which is insane and not a real scenario that would happen, but still telling nonetheless lol). She's buddied up with some far-right extremists, one of which has likened being transgender to doing blackface and another that said trans men should be sterilized.
I also don't agree with extremist takes on either side, but promotion of trans erasure and mocking/minimizing/invalidating a margininalized group that is frequently at risk of being targeted for violence are not victimless acts.

I think this is the answer. It seems like Microsoft is laying the foundation to go all-in on cloud gaming and/or gamepass. I think their ultimate goal is to dip out of the console wars altogether and be at the forefront of what they think could be the next frontier in gaming.
Honestly, it's kinda smart. Idk if cloud gaming could really be the future (at least in the US) until we have better infrastructure and access to fast/reliable internet without data caps is more ubiquitous, but carving out a niche for themselves instead of locking horns with the competition is pretty clever. It's worked for Nintendo. Most PC and console gamers I know also own a Switch, in part because of the quality of the exclusives and in part because of the relatively accessible pricing of the console, but also because the Switch hardware offers a unique experience (well, it was a lot more unique pre-Steam Deck).

@the_artic_one Wow, thank you for the recommendations and the little write-ups for each! They all sound great, I've added them all to my watchlist. Thanks again!! :)
Can anyone recommend me an anime? I recently watched "My Love Story!!" and it was so good. Yes, it was cheesy and overdramatic, but that was part of the charm. I loved how sweet and wholesome it was, and I really loved the characters. I also found it really funny. It doesn't have to be a romance anime, though I am totally up for that as I have gotten into some romances this year (I also liked Yamada's First Time, which normally ecchi stuff isn't my thing, but it wasn't terribly gratuitous, it was sex-positive, and I got pretty hooked into the story and found it hilarious, too). Just looking for something similarly touching, wholesome, funny, and fun to watch with likable characters, like "My Love Story!!" Any thoughts? :) [\#Anime](https://kbin.social/tag/Anime)

YouTube. I know it sounds goofy, but often you can search something like "Baldur's Gate 3 gtx 1060 6gb i7-4790K" (or whatever your specs are) and you will get tons of videos of people running it on their systems. If you happen to have common parts, you will not normally have trouble finding a benchmark for a rig very similar to yours for most games, but even with more niche hardware, you can usually find something helpful, even of it's just like a similar GPU or another laptop with the same chipset, or whatever your case may be.
Beyond that, Steam's hardware requirements on the store pages of games and pcgamingwiki are great resources.
I'd also say you can look on protondb--it's for Linux gamers, so the results may or may not be applicable if you have a Windows system, but in most cases, if there's a report that something runs well on Linux machine with the same hardware as you, it's going to be very similar on Windows. The other way isn't so applicable, though--just because something runs poorly on a Linux rig doesn't necessarily mean it will also run poorly on Windows, as the problem could be with the compatability layer and not the hardware.
None of these are a perfectly elegant solution, but they are typically reliable enough.

My personal AOTY was Oshi no Ko. There is a lot going on in that show, even just tonally between drama, suspense, and humor; but it balances everything so well, and it has some really well-written, complex women characters, which was awesome to see.

Aqua is kind of an incel, but I think the parallels drawn between him and Ai's stalker are intentional, or at least that's the impression that I get after S1. Even so, his strange and convoluted relationship to Ai makes for a really interesting psychological dilemma, and he is a very interesting protagonist. While some of his actions are well-intentioned, he is also capable of some pretty abhorrent stuff. I hope to see something of a redemption arc for him, but wherever it goes, I think it will be a fun watch.

Beyond some excellent characterization and great writing, the music is amazing, the art direction and animation are gorgeous, and the overarching mystery and supernatural twist make it extremely compelling.
Season 2 is one of my most anticipated upcoming anime.

He died from acute effects of ketamine infusion therapy that he had a week and a half before, but ketamine's half-life in the system is just 3-4 hours and could not have still been in his system a week and a half later. Yet he had ketamine in his system, not from his last prescribed administration, but it was also deemed that he had not been using illicit substances. How did the ketamine get in his system then?
-
He had been clean for 19 months, but he was still taking Buprenorphine to ween off opiods. Are you normally weening off for that long?
-
"The contributory factors in Perry's death included drowning, coronary artery disease, and buprenorphine effects." None of those are "acute effects of ketamine." Also, wouldn't the drowning be the leading cause? Like it sounds like something caused him to lose consciousness and then he drowned.

I use it in my normal Firefox setup, but I've been playing with Mullvad browser and I've kept everything to the defaults so I have a good option when I want a little more anonymity without needing the nuclear option (Tor) for sensitive-ish-but-really-not-all-that-sensitive browsing. I'd like to add Redirector into the mix, and my inclination is that it *shouldn't* affect the fingerprint because everything is handled clientside from start to finish with that add-on, and the redirect is handled before the browser even connects to the redirected site. With that said, I'm honestly not 100% sure if simply adding an extension of any kind would be enough to change the fingerprint and cause me to lose out on some of that sweet, sweet herd anonymity. Anyone know the answer to this that can fill me in? I would appreciate it. :)
Is anyone here familiar with using DoubleDouble? It seems like you can download from a bunch of services, but you can only search from Spotify or Apple. Is that correct? I am trying to track down an album in FLAC format that is not on Spotify or iTunes, but it *is* on Amazon Music, yet DoubleDouble can't seem to find it even if I paste in a direct link to the album. Am I doing something wrong, or is that just how it works?
Hi! I have some newb-ish questions, and I was hoping some Fedora veterans could help me out. I have been using the KDE spin of Fedora since 36, and I love it. I distro-hopped for years, but I have not had any interest since landing on Fedora. I have been using the KDE spin because I love KDE. I love how lightweight yet feature-rich and customizable it is. It can really be anything I need it to be, and it's amazing. With that said, there are two recent happenings that have made me question whether I should switch to the original GNOME version: 1. I've been having some minor issues lately with F39, like audio not working after I reboot, so I had to eeventuakly remove it altogether and use pipewire, which has been working better. Nothing big, but minor issues like that. I've heard that the GNOME version performs better and is more stable/has less bugs, but idk if there's any truth to it? 2. I have an Nvidia GPU. Wayland support is pretty bad for me, and I've been relying on X11 all this time. Recently, it was confirmed that Fedora will be dropping X11 support altogether in F40. I'm wondering if anyone out there has used both KDE and Gnome with an Nvidia GPU that can tell me if there's any difference in Wayland performance? I kinda don't want to switch to GNOME, because I love KDE, but if it will make my experience better, then I think it's probably worth a shot.
I've been watching Gal & Dino, and idk if I like it yet or not, but I really like the juxtaposition of a more silly, western style cartoon dinosaur that lives with an anime girl. lol Are there other animes that combine different art styles for comedic effect that are good?
I searched around, but the only thing I could find is that they've had an open issue on their issue tracker for like 6 or 7 years requesting an AppImage release, but they didn't comment on it or respond to it. I've seen a lot of people online mentioning they would like it, and there's even someone who made unofficial AppImage builds for a short time (but then they stopped after a couple of releases). Is there a technical reason why they won't? It seems like most big emulators offer AppImage for portable setups these days, so I'm just curious.
I have been messing with Sonkun's CRT shaders in RetroArch, and they're amazing. I'm trying to maximize them, and I'm curious--for PSX, will nearest-neighbor or bilinear filtering give a more accurate presentation with CRT shaders? [\#Emulation](https://kbin.social/tag/Emulation)

I was just accessing some files off a portable HDD and my power went out due to a storm. When it came back on, my HDD wouldn't mount anymore. I booted into my Windows partition and had it scan and repair the drive, and thankfully it works again. But I'm wondering--did I have to boot into Windows for that? Does Linux have any such utility?
Can anyone recommend me a good casual-competitive FPS? Overwatch was one of my all-time favorite games, but I just don't like OW2. I tried, it's just not the vibe anymore for me. I tried a couple other hero shooters, like Team Fortress 2, which I couldn't really get into. I've been thinking back to when I was last really into a shooter, and it was probably the original Modern Warfare 2 or Black Ops 2. Before that was Halo 3. I did also like Advanced Warfare when that came out. These days, all of the popular modern shooters seem to be battle royals, which are fine (I liked Apex a lot for a while), but it's not really what I'm looking for. Beyond that, they're often F2P but loaded with microtransactions and shit. I am just so sick of that pricing model, I just want to pretend like it doesn't exist. lol I'm fine buying a game outright, but if there's a bunch of DLC or in-game currency of any kind, I'm out. I'm also not looking for something like CS where everyone you play with is god-tier and is doing trick shots, cause that's frustrating. So I guess I'm looking for a classic COD/Battlefield-ish FPS with the modern touches (like leaning around corners, etc.), that's either paid or free but does not paywall any content. It can be newer or older as long as it's not hard to find matches online. I'm also not super picky about art direction, but it'd be cool if it had good graphics. Aaaand the icing on the cake: if it can run on Linux (natively or via proton), you get infinite bonus points. It's not a total deal-breaker if I have to switch to my Windows partition, but I do prefer Linux. I know that's a tall order. Is there anything good in 2023 that would check most of these boxes? [\#PCGaming](https://kbin.social/tag/PCGaming)
I've got a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 running stock Android 13 and I've paired a real Wiimote via Bluetooth and confirmed that it is connected. In Dolphin (ver 5.0-19870), I've set my Wii input to "Real WiiMote" and I've plugged in a USB sensor bar. I can navigate dolphin with the Wiimote + Nunchuck (I can navigate the game select menu with the joystick on the nunchuck or the D-pad and launch a game with the A button), but for some reason, none of the input works in-game. The B button will open and close the in-game Dolphin menu and the Home button will minimize the Dolphin app and take me back to my launcher, but that's it. I can't interact at all otherwise. It doesn't give me any options to configure the Wiimote's controls, unless I'm emulating a Wiimote. With the "Real Wiimote" option, I can't seem to configure anything. Does anyone know what the problem might be or how I can fix it? Thank you!
Gentlemen, it is with great displeasure that I must inform you that we're doing it wrong.
I know it's probably not a common thing for someone to want, but some people play on handhelds with 4:3 displays (Retroid Pocket 2+/2S), CRTs, etc. I'm just curious if 4:3 patches exist or could be made for emulated PSP games.
I know Daijisho automatically scrapes, which is cool, but I'm not always crazy about the way it scrapes box art. I have an emulation station setup on my PC and I'd really like to copy the box art images from there and import them into Daijisho, but I can't find where those images are stored on my Android device (Retroid Pocket 2+, if it matters). I know you can fix them individually, but it'd be way easier if I could do it in bulk. Does anyone know how to do this or if it's possible? EDIT: Okay, it looks you (kinda) can do it! You have to go one platform at a time, but you can move your pictures to your device's storage, hit the edit icon on a platform in Daijisho, and select "Import Preview Media" at the bottom. You will have to select Box Art, Title Art, and Screenshot folder seperately for each system, but it's still a lot faster than doing individual games.
Has there been any update on when the kbin API will be available? A few weeks ago, I heard it would be "a few days," and haven't heard anything since. [\#ArtemisApp](https://kbin.social/tag/ArtemisApp)
I'm trying to rename a bunch of files by removing all parenthetical from the file name EXCEPT if they contain a specific word. For instance, say these are my files: * File 1 (Boop) (Ver 1).file * File 1 (Beep) (Ver 2).file * File 2 (Soup).file * Another File (Seep).file * Yet Another (Ver 5).file I want to KEEP any parenthetical with "Ver" and a number, but I want the rest gone. So it should look like: * File 1 (Ver 1).file * File 1 (Ver 2).file * File 2.file * Another File.file * Yet Another (Ver 5).file I can write ` \(.*\)` for Find and leave Replace blank to get rid of anything parenthetical, and it works great. So I tried ` \((?!Ver).*\)` and a bunch of alternatives, but it gives me the same result of just removing all parentheticals (even the ones I want). I have tried lookaheads, lookbehinds, and a bunch of syntax tweaks, but I always either end up with no parentheticals or all of them. Any suggestions?

This is not an attempt to convert Lemmy users, nor is it a slight on Lemmy. I'm sure there are plenty of reasons why Lemmy works better for some, and I love the fact that we not only have multiple choices, but multiple choices that allow us to interact with each other regardless! It's amazing. Lemmy is great, no shade. With that said... **Why YSK:** I see a lot of users posting frequent questions about Lemmy that are currently answered by kbin. For example: * The ability to block a whole domain, or subscribe to one * The ability to subscribe to individual users * A built-in search tool to find communities all over fedi (kbin, Lemmy, Mastodon groups, etc.) with an indication of how active they are * Mitigation for the "tracking pixel" issue I find that almost every day, I see Lemmy users asking about features and I think, "well, kbin does that." I think it would be worthwhile for more users to check into both platforms and decide which might be best for them.
I know there's no official info on it. Just curious if anyone's caught wind of anything or wants to make an educated guess, just cause I'm curious what people think. I'm way too excited, but I'm not buying a PS5 for one game. lol
Hey, friends! I have a weird issue that I'm hoping someone can suggest a fix for, cause I have searched all over and cannot find an answer. Essentially, for the last several months, I randomly get these black flashes that happen at the top of my screen. They take up the top 1/4-1/3 of my display and they're gone in an instant. They happen at random times. Not while I'm gaming, but sometimes when I'm watching a non-fullscreen video, browsing the web, etc. I cannot purposefully trigger it, I have no clue what it is. The only thing I can think of is maybe it's krunner, because it's positioned similarly to the krunner search bar? I really have no clue. It seems to pop up more often while I'm active (typing, scrolling, clicking, etc.) but not in any one particular program or at any particular time, and it definitely happens when I'm inactive, too. It's really hard to pin down what triggers it. **Specs:** OS: Fedora 38 (KDE Spin) Display Server: X11 (but it happens on Wayland, too) GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X My system/software is fully up to date. I'm always running OpenRGB, GWE, and Mullvad VPN in the background, and I often have Firefox, Element, and/or Steam open at any given time. I don't think it's any of those, but I'm including this info in case it could be, or if it's helpful. Any advice is welcome! Thank you.
I keep these notes for myself, figured they might help others, as well. :)
I'm a long-time guitarist, new to playing this genre. I'm trying to get a sound reminiscent of Blink, Sum 41, etc. Their sound is crunchy, but has a lot more clarity than say metal guitar usually has. I'm having trouble making it punchy enough without getting too muddy. Pedal-wise, I only have a tuner, a crybaby, and DOD FX510-B Overdrive Plus. I'm playing with a crappy single coil strat that I'm hoping to upgrade to a nicer humbucker strat one of these days. I know those bands are probably rocking Marshal stacks and have lots of stomp boxes to play with, but if anyone can suggest some settings that might get me closer to that sound with the gear I have, I would really appreciate it. 🤘

On Lemmy, comments are not truly deleted, but hidden for all except instance admins. Also, deleted comments will still be present (they just say something to the affect of "deleted by user") and still show the poster's username even after the poster's account is deleted. Does kbin function similarly? If not, what happens when a kbin user comments on a Lemmy post and then deletes it? Just curious. Thanks, friends!
