Dust extractors?

I'm looking for a better dust extraction system than my old shopvac, ideally with a hepa filter. I'd like something that's easy to move around and gets most of the dust. Any recommendations, or warnings about what not to get?

Does Liquid Hide Glue fill gaps?

I’m repairing a chair and the joints are a bit on the loose side. I was hoping to try Titebond liquid hide glue to put it back together for the long open time and to make future repairs easier. Does anyone know if hide glue fills gaps better than pva? I know epoxy is usually the go-to for gap filling but I’d rather give myself more time than epoxy usually allows if possible. Alternatively, is there anything I can put in the joint (like fabric) that would tighten it up?

What should I use over a water based polyurethane stain to make my project shiny and smooth?

I am working on a project made of African mahogany. It’s a wall mount for our guitars that will stay indoors. I have a water based polyurethane stain. I’m going for a darker stain. I’ve put a layer on my test piece and it’s a nice color and spreads on well but it has no shine. From what I understand, more layers with high grit sanding will get some shine, but I should also add a layer of wax, oil, or varnish. I’m having a lot of trouble deciding what to get for the final layer! Advice would be appreciated.

Recently completed a side table in mid-century style. Quite the learning experience tbh. [#carpentry](https://kbin.social/tag/carpentry) [#design](https://kbin.social/tag/design) [#furniture](https://

My second attempt at handcut dovetails. https://imgur.com/gallery/f0m2tFz

I am getting just into hand tool woodworking. This is my second attempt at dovetail joinery. I'm pretty happy with it, but feedback is welcome. I know my tails got a bit gappy. Not sure if I moved my knife wall or just did a poor job of marking.

Walnut and ash ladder shelf with drawer. https://imgur.com/gallery/Tk0GEMG

Made this shelf awhile ago out of ash and walnut. Knapp joints on the drawer and a shellac finish.
