🇲🇾 MRT: Commuter Screens Redesign https://scribe.rip/@weiee/mrt-commuter-screens-redesign-c8540003c283

Years ago, when the first MRT lines were built in Kuala Lumpur, the whole experience worked as one expected. Clean, convenient, and predictable apart from the longer waits and pricier tickets. But it’s now 2020 — and commuting with these screens look like they could use some improvements.

Debate: Priority Seat Gatekeeping?

I forgot to make this post, but do you know there exists a species known as priority seat gatekeeper aunties? A few weeks ago, I heard an aunty speaking really loud about something someone tak tau baca She's old, (but not that old, probably in her mid 50s at most?) so someone asked her if she would like to take the priority seat, but then she said no. But she wouldn't let anyone else sit despite it's peak hour so there's one wasted space there. What's your stance on this? Are regular people not allowed to use the priority seat no matter what, or is it justified as long as there's no one who needs it and you give the seat out as soon as there's someone who needs it?

Apparently one of PH's most successful initiatives but it is giving me "they are going to kidnap me" vibes for some reason. I will try it either this week or the next. Let's see if I survive 🤣

Has RapidKL's public game become complete shit again?

Previously not long after Anthony Loke become the transport minister, rapidKL always gave an explanation whenever an issue happens, and they'll always address the issue in a PR statement. But nowadays they just mention they'll investigate the issue and never come up with an explanation. Was all that PR game last time just for show?

Traffic Evaporation: What Really Happens When Road Space is Reallocated from Cars? thecityfix.com

Not Malaysia-specific, but extremely relevant. >A reverse effect to traffic generation is the phenomenon of “traffic evaporation”: traffic that disappears when road space is reallocated from private vehicles to more sustainable modes of transport like walking, cycling and public transportation. While traffic evaporation has been well-documented for more than 20 years, most decision- and opinion-makers are still under the impression that reducing car lanes will make traffic worse. --- >All this does not mean that cities don’t require adequate road connectivity among rural areas and other cities. But reducing road space for cars in denser areas while improving areas for walking, cycling and public transportation clearly does not produce the chaos many believe it will. It is actually a more sustainable and equitable way of improving mobility in dense and fast-growing cities

[Meta] What do you guys want to talk about in !transport?

Hello everyone. Welcome to the community's first pinned post! 📌 I'm thinking of doing weekly/regularly cycling pins for casual discussion on the topic of transportation in Malaysia, to get the wheels spinning. A few topic ideas off the top of my head: - sharing good/bad personal experiences/confessions with regards to taking the various modes of transport - tips, tricks, and lifehacks for the various modes of transport - off the beaten paths to take and explore - ideas on improving modal choice (i.e. access to transportation modes that isn't cars) - nerding out on transport modes and lines you wish exists, alternative transit diagrams, etc. - transportation history/future - comparisons with other countries - universal access Topic ideas welcomed, here and on all subsequent meta-posts. Full-feature posts on such topics even more so! 😆👍‍ Thank you. ![](https://assets.nst.com.my/images/articles/Copy_Of_3ec_NK_NSTfield_image_socialmedia.var_1555221549.jpg)
