Holodeck Training games

With all the footage coming out of Ukraine with the fpv drones, the games seen in some episodes used for training make a lot of sense. The game Janeway and seven shooting small maneuverable airborne drones, comes to mind. But also guinan and the shooting colored dots. I have no clue what the games where called, but the prediction is spot on.

New info on Universal Fan Fest Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood.

The url links to the same press announcement from back in August. According to the post on the franchise’s official Facebook page, the event will in some way involve the U.S.S. Enterprise-D that will be unlike any other.

I just finish to see all TNG movies.

What I can say? They all are great! Some are better than others, but still is very enjoyable, why there is so mixed reviews about it? I can understand some specific complains, but that dosen't make it bad.

A Gamble: What will be the plot of *Lower Decks*'s Finale?

I know we've all been crying to ourselves in bed at night over the end of such a wonderful show - me included - so here's a fun little distraction for now. 1. What is your prediction for the plot of the series finale? 2. How much gold-pressed latinum do you bet on it? I bet 5 strips that it will be a parody/pastiche of the time shenanigans of TNG:"All Good Things" and VOY:"Endgame" where we get to see the futures of each character. Your turn. Betting closes once the first episodes of the season comes out (in other words, I think you have until 11:59 PM PST on October 23rd to bet, though I could be wrong). I will declare the winner of our imaginary latinum when I've watched the finale. P.S If it's not too much trouble, since there's still more than a month to season premiere, would you be able to pin this, [@ValueSubtracted](https://startrek.website/u/ValueSubtracted)? It's totally fine if not, but would be convenient due to the long-term nature of this post.

In part because it reminds me of TOS:”The Cage”, I’m hooked on *The Prisoner*

Yesterday, I began watching the 1960s British sci-fi series *The Prisoner* (first five episodes) and have been quite enjoying it. Much of my enjoyment has been from the fact that it kind of feels like “What if The Cage was a whole series?” In other words, like “The Cage”, it’s a prison environment in which a person can’t be certain of reality any more. It does diverge in all the torture on number 6, whereas the Talossian’s illusions are less flawed and sadistic a prison in some ways (you know, besides the purpose of breeding a bunch of human slaves). However, I feel like both “The Cage” and *The Prisoner* overall embody the same “everything might be fake” sense of reality. I almost feel like “The Prisoner” is somewhat a window into what *Star Trek* might have been if CBS hadn’t thought people would be too dumb to understand “The Cage”. Besides the similar vibes with “The Cage”, another thing winning me over is the surreal set design, which has already won a place in my heart. I just wish I could make a replica of one of the signs in the village and have it not be so obscure no one would ever recognize it. The main thing my 21st century brain finds fault with is the strong gender roles used in *The Prisoner* (there is always some woman that Number 2 sends to try and manipulate Number 6), although like TOS, I’ll give it a pass since it was in the same boat as most television at the time. However, I did like the twist in “Free for All” where Number 58 is revealed to be the real new Number 2.

Podcast: All Access Star Trek And Robert Hewitt Wolfe Revisit The Sept. 2024 Bell Riots Of DS9’s “Past Tense”

https://trekmovie.com/2024/09/06/podcast-all-access-star-trek-and-robert-hewitt-wolfe-revisit-the-sept-2024-bell-riots-of-ds9s-past-tense/ I am personally annoyed. The “Past Tenese” panel at STLV, did not happen at the scheduled time. I was at the convention, very excited for the panel. Anyways, Wolfe mentions being at STLV, so clearly it happened earlier in the day. Apparently the panel was pushed up and there was no announcement of the change.

(Solved) A Minor Mystery: Can anyone identify where this image of DeForest Kelley pulling a rabbit out of a hat comes from?

I recently came across this meme. After researching, the original meme appears to be https://www.geeksandgamers.com/topic/star-trek-doctor-mccoy-memes/ in late 2020. That leaves me with one question: Where is this frame of DeForest Kelley from? Looking through both my memories and a double-check in MemoryAlpha, I'm certain it's not from TOS. Is there someone here more familiar with DeForest Kelley's filmography or, alternatively, someone who actually has the time to start looking through DeForest Kelley films?

two things I came away with after watching DS9 - Past Tense today.

1) Never realize it takes place over labor day weekend until today. It hits even harder knowing that. 2) It kind of makes me sad not knowing how the original Bell got acess to the Net without jadzia's help. That makes me think he couldn't and It was a predestination paradox and the implication is humanity couldn't put us on a path to the world of star trek on our own and we needing star fleet to push the scales. Explains a lot for our timeline. 3) 1995 Me: Getting the voices on the Net would fix things for sure. 2024 Me: There would be a misinformation campaign to drown out those voices and used by grifters to make a quick buck off the cause. Most would just swipe to the next youtube short/reelz/TikTok video. Yeah i made myself sad

Thoughts on TAS Theme

What are your guy's thoughts on the theme for [*Star Trek: The Animated Series (1973)*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5sES3_-G1k)? I feel like: 1. It almost sounds like the battle music for a Star Trek turn-based JRPG on the Nintendo DS. 2. I feel like PRO's theme gives very similar vibes to this one while having a distinct identity. 3. I almost feel like this theme is a weird in-between of the TOS theme and TNG-era theme (which makes perfect sense - I mean what else would be between the 60s and the 80s).

What's your favourite Star Trek theme?

Unfortunately we don't have polls in lemmy. Nonetheless I'd love to hear from you: What's your favourite Star Trek theme and/or your favourite scene with special (background) music? For example: My favourite theme is TNG and my favourite scene is Cochrane's warp speed flight in First Contact with Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride".

Theory: The EMH in "Academy" is going to be the copy from "Living Witness"

Until Disco S3, "Living witness" was the furthest future we had seen in Star Trek. But Academy takes place *after* Discovery. At the end of "Living Witness" the Doctor is described as heading towards Earth. Assuming the burn didn't get them, it's entirely possible two EMHs are surviving in Discovery's time. I think it would be a fun twist if it wasn't the EMH we expect!

One of my favourite performances from VOY (S05E10 Counterpoint). Hats off to the makeup team for that prosthetic- and to actor Randy Lowell.

Are there any popular Star Trek Day traditions?

So I recently embraced and continued my love of Star Trek within the last two years. I think back to First Contact Day and how many Trekkies like myself ate a yeah you kind of forget that what they’re doing kind of forget that they’re not on a starship where they can do this as much as they want a meal of pierogies, salmon, and tequila while watching the movie First Contact. Are there any similar ways people celebrate Star Trek Day?

Do you skip Star Trek intros when streaming?

I mean, I get it. For bingewatching to be effective such option must exist. But I just can't imagine to skip Star Trek intros. It's part of the anticipation, the joy, the ritual. What about you? Do you skip intros?
