which card do you mean? other similar performance cards are generally a bit more expesive, 7800xt is cheaper than 7900gre but performance goes down by similar margin, so both seem great value

Hmm, I didn't even consider it, but could work out for me as well, at least for a while, as I already have a laptop which works really well, just the gpu is what really needed an upgrade.
@OwlYaYeet please help me with these doubts-

    1. how is steamOS for privacy (steam stuff), I it possible to stop all steam related activity.
    2. How easy it is to setup lutris/heroic to play my gog games? (compared to setting it up on regular arch let's say)

forgot to answer the second point, moving would be great, laptop + egpu would work, would help while travelling. But a desktop sounds more interesting without the comprosises, could get a weaker laptop for travel if needed I guess.

Luckily, I got really exhausted and frustated, so hopefully it ended for now.
I'll do mostly browsing, programming, some servers always running in the background like jellyfin.
Then I'll be playing single player games on 2k ultrawide. Thinking all AMD for now, I'll consider nvidia for path tracing for the next upgrade, but don't need ray tracing for now.
Would like to reasonably futureproof it.

Hyperfixated on building a desktop, it's probably going to put me back ~2k EUR.

I have been wanting to build a desktop for a while now, but I held back because I plan to move overseas in near future, and build it there, which I know is the right thing to do. But I have spent ~24 hours in last 3 days researching specs and right build for me. I "need" to know :p. If I act on it, I'll have to sell the new monitor, tower case, power supply (the bulky items) just after few months of use, once I move overseas, only taking remaining parts with me. This sudden hyperfixation is crazy. Have slept just 3 hours today (when my body just gave up and shut down). Just thought I'll share.

Stopped gnome-disks format at 78% (~6 hours remaining).
    Used #sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda1 bs=1M seek=1001250 status=progress, write speed is ~100 MB/s.
    Thanks a ton!

Yes I am overwriting it with zeroes while formatting (using gnome-disks). I didn't know it did multiple overwrites, thought it did 1 pass overwrite with zeros.

Is this speed normal for formatting a HDD? (mint 21.2)

Started with 50 MBps, went down to 20 MBps shortly after and is declining slowly since. Running for 7+ hours.\ HDD is 5 years old, rare use but very well kept. Edit: external 1.5 TB HDD connected over USB 3. Overwriting with zeroes while formatting using gnome-disks. Update: Stopped gnome-disks ~78% and continued writing zeros using `dd` for the remaining sectors.\ command used: `#sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda1 bs=1M seek=1001250 status=progress` (don't copy without understanding), used seek here to skip already zeroed sectors.\ write speed went up from ~14 MB/s to ~100 MB/s. slow speed could be caused by multiple passes of overwrites by gnome-disks (not sure if it does that), or by "initializing the filesystem at the same time as zeroing" as mentioned by @ares35. gradual speed decrement was observed in both methods, as mentioned by @Synthead. Thanks to everyone for being so helpful.
