Handheld wise, I've been using my GP2X since 2006 and a couple years ago I purchased an Evercade. The Evercade is nice, but I still use my GP2X more. Apart from these, I do most of my retro gaming with VICE (on my PC) and TheC64Mini (on the T.V.). As you can probably guess by now, I'm an old-school Commodore guy. 😄

Ghee, sounds almost as good as it does on the SID! 😆
If you have a vintage joystick that you used to use on your original C64 and would like to game with it on VICE or TheC64Mini, check this out! Not too long ago, I bought myself the D-SUB9 USB joystick adapter, from [Retronic Design](https://www.retronicdesign.com/en/store/) (based here, in Canada). ![](https://scribe.disroot.org/pictrs/image/777a8a19-6d8f-47fc-851d-310f13b7b030.jpeg) With this device, I can play my favorite C64 games on my PC (using VICE) or my TheC64Mini using my favorite joystick, the Wico TheBOSS. I'm really glad it works so well. Some games I just can't play very well without using TheBOSS… keyboard keys and TheC64Joystick are just not good enough. The game, “Aliens The Video Game” is one of them. I just can't get by the first stage (the flying down to the planet surface) with using a keyboard on VICE; and I'm not much better with TheC64Joystick. So, again, it was a very satisfying moment for me this afternoon when I made it through that stage on the first try, with TheBOSS. In the words of George Costanza, “I'm back, BABY!” I go into a bit further detail about it on my blog post here: https://www.my64.in.nf/doku.php?id=blog:2024-03-15 ![](https://scribe.disroot.org/pictrs/image/e52d102b-64f3-4e2d-a48b-0800759a3691.jpeg)

Thank you! Well, I wouldn't say text adventure games were a test of one's "smarts", but they are an aquired taste. I admit that I only have the patience to play through certain ones. But, the couple I've listed here are ones I found entertaining enough to finish. I hope others do, too!

Nice to see Disroot featured here. Although, I was kind of hoping that, rather than a demo, the video was going to discuss reasons why Disroot's "ethical email service" was a better choice than, say, Gmail or Proton or what-have-you. Maybe in a follow up video sometime in the future?

Nice! I've always wanted one of these, too. Looks like this one is in great shape. Enjoy! 😄

Looks interesting! I'd like to give it a play-through. Is there a link to a download available?
Ah.. found one: https://csdb.dk/release/?id=233886
Greetings, all! My first post on Lemmy! 😀 For anyone new to the C64 scene, or returning to their Commodore roots, there may come a time when you might want to give text adventure games a try. If you do, here are a couple recommendations that I've enjoyed more recently. For the noobie, Castle Quest, by Ricky Derocher, is a short and simple text adventure game, perfect for the beginner. The commands used by the text parser are uncomplicated and puzzles are relatively straight-forward. Link to the itch.io page: [https://rickyderocher.itch.io/castle-quest-commodore-64](https://rickyderocher.itch.io/castle-quest-commodore-64). Once you get the hang of it, an enjoyable (and not too complicated) *graphic* text adventure you may want to try out is, The Curse of Rabenstein, by Stefan Vogt. Stefan has a great way of telling a story that draws you right in. Link to the itch.io page: [https://8bitgames.itch.io/rabenstein](https://8bitgames.itch.io/rabenstein). Game on, Adventurer!

Hello and thank you! To help me have a better understanding (and to evangelize with a bit of wisdom) in a short paragraph or two, would anyone like to summarize how D*Scribe / Lemmy compares to Reddit or other similar communities? Does it boil down to being a decentralized service, or is there more going on behind the scenes?
If it's strength is a decentralized community of sorts, does this mean that, with our account here, we can now access other Lemmy servers and discussion groups on other servers?
