Thank you a lot for being patient with me :D

    dd if=/dev/zero of=1g-testfile bs=1G count=1
    1+0 records in
    1+0 records out
    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB, 1.0 GiB) copied, 4.62269 s, 232 MB/s

This HDD is obviously working fine and much faster than I thought it can. I guess I have to find bottleneck elswhere

Thank you. The files I download are usually 5-30 GB size. I don't want to max out my internet speed, I just want to get the files in media library ASAP after requesting download manually (happens maybe few times a week)

It makes sense, Ill test sequential and random write performance and maybe even test it since I have the hardware available.

At first I wasn't aware that my speed is super low for HDD, therefore I was looking for some magic solution with SSD speeds and HDD storage that might not even exist. I have to do more testing for sure

Thx. Ive seen dd commands in guides how to test drive speed, but I'm not sure how can I specify what drive I want to test. I see I could change "if" and "of", but don't trust myself enough to use my own modified commands before understanding them better. Will read more about that. Honestly I'm surprised drive speed test is not easier, but its probably just me still being noob xD

I have managed to copy with rsync and getting 180 MB/s. I guess my initial assumption was wrong, HDD is obviously not bottleneck here, it can get close to ISP speed. Thank you for pointing this out, Ill do more testing these days. Im kinda shocked because I never knew HDD can be that fast. Gonna reread all the comments as well

Yeah it will be faster, but its extra step before the files get available on HDD.

Even if my HDD is super fast and healthy it would still be a bottleneck for 2Gbps fiber? Ill deffo play with HDD more to find max speeds, wasnt paying attention before because it felt normal to me

It will download faster to SSD, but then I have to wait the files to be moved to HDD before getting them imported in media server. Im not after big numbers in qbit, I just want to start watching faster if possible. Sorry Im probably not explaining well and Im not sure if Im asking for something that even make sense

Oh, you are talking about torrent client settings? I could spare 1-2 GB of RAM, but not more than that (got 16 GB in total). I see this might help a lot, but I would I still be limited with HDD max write speed? Using SSD for temporary files sounds great, but waiting files to be coppied to HDD would slow it down if I understood correctly

Its the cheapest drive I could find (refurbished seagate from amazon), I thought thats the reason for being slow, but wasnt aware its that low. Im also getting 25-40 MB/s (200-320 Mbps) when copying files from this drive over network. Streaming works great so its not too slow at all. Is there better way of debugging this? What speeds can I expect from good drive or best drive?

Ill research more about BTRFS and ZFS, thx

Thx. I use ext4 right now. I might consider reformating, but so many new words to reasearch before deciding that. I heard about ZFS, but not sure is that right for me since I only have 16 GB of RAM.

Downloads are 100-200 GB max, but less than 40 GB most of the time. I have 512 GB in use and 2TB SSD not in use, can swap them if needed

Data HDD with SSD catch drive

After upgrading my internet connection I immediatelly noticed that my HDD tops 40 MB/s and bottlnecking download speed in qbittorrent. Is it possible to use SSD drive as a catch drive for 12 TB HDD so it uses SSD speeds when downloading and moves files to HDD later on? If yes, does it make sense? Anyone using anything simmilar? Would 512 GB be enough or could I benefit from 2TB SSD? HDD is just for jellyfin (movies/shows), not in raid, dont need backup for that drive, I can afford risking data if that matters at all All suggestions are welcome, Thx in advance EDIT: I obviously have upset some of you, wasn't my intention, I'm sorry about that. I love to tinker and learn new things, but I could live with much lower speeds tho... Please don't hate me if I couldn't understand your comment or not being clear with my question. HDD being bottleneck at 40 MB/s was wrong assumption (found out in meantime). I'm still trying to figure out what was the reason for download to be that slow, but I'm interested in learning about the main question anyway. I just thought I'm experiencing the same issue like many people today, having faster internet than storage. Some of you provided solutions I will look into, but need time for that and also have to fix whatever else I'm having issue with. Keep this community awesome because it is <3

    PoP!_OS update failure

Hey guys, Ive been running PoP OS for more than a year without any big issues until today. I did a reboot (with checkmark to do updates) and after that PC got stuck at MBO logo. After reading a bit I rebooted again and was holding space button -> chose old kernel and PC started. One screen was just black while the other one was using super low resolution. I went to pop_shop and downgraded video drivers from 555 to 470 and eddited /boot/efi/loader/loader.conf to ```default Pop_OS-oldkern``` rebooted and viola its booting fine. Then I noticed my app PrusaSlicer (flatpak) doesnt show the Platter (main tab) and it crashes if I try to slice. I read it could be graphic driver related. Then I was struggling to update drivers to 555 again and eventually succeeded using ```sudo apt remove ~nnvidia``` and ```sudo apt install pop-desktop system76-driver-nvidia```. I believe Im using old kernel and new gpu drivers, but still have an issue with PrusaSlicer. Anyone know a solution? When I had only one screen working (at low resolution) PrusaSlicer was working fine...reinstall doesnt help at all Thx in advance

I was looking for automtion that turns off the speakers, but I could have the same approach for turning them on.

If I understood correctly, that triger would be active at any state change (from on to off, from off to unavailable, from off to on, from unavailable to off) and then using IF ChromeCast is off it would activate automation even when it changes from unavailable to off. That wouldn't solve the issue, am I missing something?

I want it to triger when changing from on to off only, while ignoring change from unavailble to off.

Trigger when ChromeCast change from ON to OFF only

Hey guys, I made an automation that powers off my bluetooth speaker (using IR blaster) when ChromeCast is powered off for more than 10 s. Automation is working fine, but sometimes ChromeCast changes state from OFF to Unavailable and back to OFF in just a few seconds. I have no idea why is that happening, but it triggers automation and turns ON the speaker (it is the same IR button for ON and OFF) and gets it out of sync. What condition or trigger should I use to make it work only when ChromeCast state changes from ON to OFF and ignores Unavailable to OFF? There is my automation: ``` alias: Turn off JBL description: if CC is off for 10 sec trigger: - platform: device type: turned_off device_id: bc1049ea43a53092952d364749c3fb4c entity_id: ae0ea35649746ed5cea16f8d6ca54dd3 domain: remote for: hours: 0 minutes: 0 seconds: 10 condition: [] action: - service: remote.send_command metadata: {} data: num_repeats: 1 delay_secs: 0.4 hold_secs: 0 device: jbl command: "off" target: device_id: 4f1f3a13324e03646ff6b03aed27f2fe mode: single ``` thanks in advance

How do I get phone notifications from my server while I'm not connected to my home network?

Hey guys. Im running Home Assistant in docker container for few years and I'm super happy with it. The only way I access my server when not home is wireguard VPN. I noticed that I'm still receiving notifications even when not connected to VPN. I wonder how is that possible? I don't have sub for HA Cloud or Nabu Casa. I also don't own a domain, using duckdns for wireguard connection and reverse proxy (npm). I thought I have 100% local setup, but I guess there is a Google or HA server in between. I don't want to disable the feature, I just want to know where is my data being sent Thx

    Thanks for input.

Several of your devices have the feature you want, but you ignore or defeat them because you want another feature as well (play next episode, etc)

Well the projector have that feature, but I'm not happy with it because CEC is not working. I end up with half solution because sound is still playing from BT speaker. Other than that, if I want to continue watching I have to grab projectors remote to press a button (less important, but working on reducing number of remotes from 3 to 1).

CC works fine if I dont use autoplay next episode (it still plays movie/show untill the end), but doesn't work if Im watching TiviMate. Again half solution unfortunately.

You could look into Google Home Automations

Specific time like 00:30 wouldn't work for us, but I've been playing with home assistant yesterday and came to hopefully a great solution. I was thinking about automation that will mute sound 90 min after CC was powered on and then if I don't disable mute in 5 min another automation turns off device. Sounds perfect, but need to try it out. I guess Google HA can do that as well, but I already have home assistant for other things in our house.

    audio / video (AV) receivers

We dont have any AV receiver yet, CC is connected to projector via HDMI and to speaker via bluetooth.

If you have other tips or you think I'm missing something, I'll be happy to hear

    CCWGTV never goes to idle

Hey guys. Is there any Android TV app that can trigger auto turn off after set amount of time of not using CC remote control? We have a projector connected to ChromeCast with Google TV 4k and also a bluetooth speaker connected to CC. Sometimes we fall asleep while watching a movie/show at night and it is just wasting projector lamp hours. What I want is actually a basic TV feature that pops a message on the screen "shutting down in xxx seconds" and gets canceled with any button on CC remote control. Projector actually has that feature, but then I have to use projectors remote control (trying to get rid of it with smart IR blaster and Home Assistant) to cancel the shutdown and even if it goes off CC is still playing sound from BT speaker. Projector has HDMI CEC settings, but it is not working at all unfortunately. CC has a feature "Automatically turn off when inactive", but it never gets to inactive state because Jellyfin will just play a next episode (can be disabled, but would like to keep it) or TiVi mate is just playing until closed manually. All opinions are welcome, thanks

Automatic Fire Extinguisher for 3D Printer Cabinet

Hey 3D printing fellas, Are you worried about failures that can lead to disaster like printer catching on fire and burning down firniture and house? Do you use any kind of protection against fire? I know metal enclosures are the best, but my printer is in the Ikea Lack enclosure. I checked connections and everything looks great, but I soldered cable on the heated bed anyway. Im not super worried tbh, but Im thinking about buying Stovetop Firestop and mounting it inside the enclosure just in case. This one is triggered with open flame only, so probably false activation is not possible. I would probably buy 2 more for kitchen. There are also balls and other extinguisher shapes, but the one from the picture seems more recommended. Bad thing is I cant find that one availabls in europe. There are also smoke detectors, but they can only alarm you or cut the power. What do you use? Can you recommend any good automatic extinguisher available in europe?

[SOLVED] A command to enable Bluetooth Connection? https://imgur.com/a/9duPUn3

Every time I wake up PC from sleep I have to [go to bluetooth settings -> select device -> enable connection](https://imgur.com/a/9duPUn3) to get sound on bluetooth speakers ([Anker Soundcore](https://www.soundguys.com/anker-soundcore-review-7740/)). Bluetooth came with [MBO](https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/mpg-z390i-gaming-edge-ac/Specification) and drivers were working out of the box after PopOS install. I hope there is a command I can use instead of clicking in the GUI. Anyone know a command I could use? **[SOLUTION]** Using this command (with bluetooth speaker MAC address): `bluetoothctl connect A4:77:58:0A:DF:F1` **[SOLUTION]** Bonus question: I was thinking I could map that command to a keyboard shortcut (like CTRL+ALT+B). What is the best way (or app) to accomplish this? I believe I could google this part quickly, but happy to hear suggestions anyway **[SOLUTION]** It's possible with PopOS: Settings -> Keyboard -> Keaboard Shortcuts -> Custom Shortcuts **[SOLUTION]** <3

    Custom monitor wall mount

This is a custom wall mount for my 2nd screen [Dell P2417H](https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/6d2756b) (simmilar models with same stand will fit as well). It's a 24" monitor with pivot stand (can adjust up/down, portrait/landscape and tilt), but it doesnt suppport vesa mount (edit: this is wrong, it does support vesa, but then cant use pivot mechanism). I wanted it on the wall so I printed 3 parts out out of PLA. One part is screwed in the wall and the other one is securing monitor in place using zip ties. 3rd part is a small shelf that is mounted underneath (with original screw for monitor base), but its there mostly to provide a flat surface between monitor and a wall. I've been using it (2 actually) for few years in old place and I love it. It can be a bit tricky to tighten zip ties, but its only done once anyway. Table lamp

First time I printed something made in FreeCAD. It's a table lamp for our balcony, more like a mood light than a real lamp hehe. Its made from 3 parts (base, tube and a hat). Base and tube are CA glued and I used some insulating tape to fit a hat tightly. The lamp is about 240 mm tall and its powered from 9V battery. Battery case and steel weight are glued with some blue tack (white tack lol) to hold it in the place. There are 2 LEDs and resistor soldered together in series. I might replace the leds with lower powered ones if battery goes out too fast, but time will tell. Im also thinking about different hats, but first iteration was quick and dirty, I love it! Hey guys, I was happily running 44 docker containers for a while on Debian host. Today I tried to add a new service (uptime-kuma) using portainer stacks, but I got this error: >Error response from daemon: could not find an available, non-overlapping IPv4 address pool among the defaults to assign to the network Quick google led me to this [link](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/43720339/docker-error-could-not-find-an-available-non-overlapping-ipv4-address-pool-am) where I found possible problem with max number of docker networks. I did `docker network prune`, it removed 5 networks that were not in use and viola, uptime-kuma is working now! Am I reaching the limit? What to do if I need 10 more services on the same host? I bet I saw some people in this community running many more services

    kind of Smart Kitchen Hood

This is a followup of my [last post](https://lemm.ee/post/24534692) where I was looking for a solution to our problem with smell coming from the kitchen hood (extractor) when neighobour is cooking. I got many good suggestions, but @Finlsolo963 pointed me to Shut-off Damper with motor that looks like perfect fit. I hope it can stop the smell completely in closed position and open automatically when we start using hood. I was looking at [this Damper](https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294122832572) I could use [Shelly Plus Plug S](https://www.shelly.com/en/products/shop/shelly-plus-plug-s) to detect power usage of the hood which trigers [Shelly 2.5](https://kb.shelly.cloud/knowledge-base/shelly-2-5) to open Damper. After turning off the hood, power will go down and automation would triger another channel of Shelly 2.5 to close the Damper. What do you think about the setup? Is there any better hardware you would suggest? I dont mind spending more for beter sealing when Damper is closed. I like the one from the link mostly because its 220V and I could use shelly relays which seems super simple to implement. I already own Shelly Plug S that I could use, but its not a must. Im also opet to zigbee devices. Bonus question: what would happen if something goes wrong and both channels of Shelly 2.5 triger at the same time? It would be like pressing Open and Close buttons at the same time. Thanks in advance

    Descaling liquid

Hey guys Im a proud owner of Delonghi Magnifica S automatic espresso machine for 6 months now. Our water is super hard with loads of scale and I have been cleaning (descaling) machine with [Delonghi EcoDecalc](https://shop.delonghi.com/dl_my/coffee/cleaning-accessories/ecodecalk-coffee-machine-descaler-500ml-1.html), but friend recommends this one (much cheaper): ![](https://lemm.ee/pictrs/image/e0721d90-0ef6-4364-9b04-7cf25ebd45eb.png) ![](https://lemm.ee/pictrs/image/8eadfc18-891c-4d40-b05d-afc4ce7915cb.png) Is this safe to use? It says it contains citric, lactic and malic acid. It also says to use 50 ml on 500 ml of water while Delonghi EcoDecalc should be 100 ml on 1700 ml (I think) of water. Its almost 2x difference and I was thinking if acids are simmilar I should use 100 ml of acid for full tank anyway. We abuse our machine by making loads of coffe and tea. With scale settings on max we get descaling alarm every 3-4 weeks. It used to be on medium settings, but machine almost clogged completely once...so thats why max settings. Delonghi liquid is not cheap, but dont want to take any risk for 30€ a year. On the other hand, I dont want to pay 10€ for a 2-3€ product just because it says Delonghi on the bottle. What do you use for your machine? How often do you descale?

Turn on kitchen hood when naighbour is cooking

Hey peeps, I moved to a new appartment and my kitchen hood is connected to the same pipe (chimney) as hood from appartment below. The issue is smell coming from our hood when neighbour is cooking. I was thinking about some kind of sensor (air flow or humidity or smell?) that can detect when neighbour is cooking and then HA would turn on our hood at the lowest speed. I have no clue what kind of sensor would be suitable. I also need to figure out how to start our hood with HA (hacking with relay or buying some kind of smart kitchen hood is acceptable). Our kitchen hood is just regular Faber with 4 position switch for selecting fan speed. Anyone have idea how to solve that issue? What sensor would be best for that? Note that I have already installed 1-way valve (not sure whats the correct english word) and 3 different filters, but still sucks Edit: I got some things going on, cant replay to all comments today and probbly tomorrow. Thank you all for input, Ill come back asap

I read wasabi is one of the best privacy focused wallets, but what do you use? Im not trying to hide anything from goverment or anything like that, I just want safe place for coins that doesnt feel like someone is tracking every single step I make Edit: made sentence more clear

    VPN speed

Hello selfhosters, I recently moved to a new place with faster internet (320/130 Mbps) and now I see that VPN is limiting my torrent speed. I was testing multiple AirVPN (wireguard) servers and I'm getting 80-120 Mbps on speedtest-cli, but in torrents it goes bit higher to about 180-200 Mbps. I usually use it trought gluetun container, but was also testing with eddie-cli and I get pretty much the same results. I was reading that people get 600 Mbps and even 1+ Gbps on AirVPN. What is your experience? If this is AirVPN limit, what would you suggest as alternative with port forwarding to saturate my bandwidth? I can live with these speeds, just want to check if there is better alternative or something missconfigured on my side. Cheers

Some files have not passed the integrity check

He guys, after upgrading to Nextcloud 27 I noticed some errors in Security & setup warnings. I fixed all of them, but don't know what to do with this one. I've read [documentation](https://docs.nextcloud.com/server/27/admin_manual/issues/code_signing.html#errors), but still don't know what to do. How to fix this or should I just ignore it? I'm running lsio docker container, Nextcloud version 27.1.4 [List of invalid files](https://privatebin.net/?09e3025fc6760d27#FTX3oVW8P4v21qFGEtJbXRwyEJVDzbryPCGRQZiivbbq)

    Best VPS for gramps

Hello selfhosters, I need recommendation for cheap VPS that I will use to host [gramps](https://gramps-project.org/blog/) only. Gramps is selfhosted app for building family tree. I tested gramps in docker container on my home server and its awesome, check it out. My home server is not open to public (accessing it using wireguard only) and I would like to give access to some family members (3-4) for gramps. I thought its best to pay for cheap VPS and run gramps only to avoid any security issues on my home network. I believe performance and storage requirements fit in any cheapest model, but not sure which VPS is the easiest to setup. I have my own domain from porkbun, but I have never set SSL certs properly before and I have never used VPS. I see this as a great opportunity to learn, but also to make some family members happy <3 I'm eying servercheap.com and it says in description "1 IPv4", but then it offers "Add'l Ipv4 Addresses" for 9$. I'm bit lost here and I'm not even sure do I need IPv4 address. Maybe I can run duckdns or ddclient to avoid additional cost? How is your experience with servercheap? Is there anything better for similar price? Also, any tips for building server like that are appreciated. I was thinking Debian 11 + gramps in docker container since I'm familiar with that setup. Cheers

Unable to send test message from Sonarr to Gotify

Hey guys, how to find out why Sonarr can't send test message via Gotify? I'm getting "Unable to send test message " in logs. I'm using discord notifications with no problem. I tried moving Gotify in the same docker stack as my arr apps. Gotify is running behind gluetun just to make it available on the same network (maybe not necessary?). I have opened port for Gotify (8099) in UFW. I can send msg to Gotify using Android phone. [docker-compose](https://privatebin.net/?861c6f10dc7f34ef#8ZPsfXqeaxwfeZw4MAv2tHgg2yqNG8C89rNiHtL7Ta2R) [SONAR LOGS](https://privatebin.net/?b0af56357de5f630#6pNF6BzPmPWUr4JNxvy6CiWutgX1XXdQXDKmNnTz19q7) While discord is working fine, I'm trying to move away from it. If there is any alternative to Gotify please let me know. I'm running docker containers on Debian host. thank you edit: If I try to open Sonarr console and do curl -v http://192.168.100.40:8099/message?token=AOhF2MthB0V1IhV its just hanging and then console closes (using protainer)

Moving media library to bigger HDD

[SOLVED] 12 TB disk finally arrived, I used clonezilla. Using advanced settings and -k1 (everything else left as default) made exact disk with more storage. I just replaced disks, powered on and everything is up and running! Ty all ❤️ Hello selfhosters, I'm running home server DIY PC with *arr stack in docker containers and its working surprisingly well. The problem I have is not enough storage for my needs so I ordered a new HDD. At the moment I have OS (Debian) and some (config) volumes on one SSD while media library is on another SSD. I'd like to move only media library from old to a new HDD and stop using the old one. What is the best way to move all files (including hard links?) to a new drive? Can I just copy files with same folder structure and then modify my docker-compose.yaml to point to a new HDD? Is backup and restore of *arr apps necessary? Is there any way to grab all torrent files from qbittorrent (or another way of backup? Folder structure I have now: **System SSD:** * SSD1/config/sonarr * SSD1/config/radarr * SSD1/config/qbittorrent **Data SSD:** * SSD2/data/media/tv * SSD2/data/media/movies * SSD2/data/torrent/tv * SSD2/data/torrent/movies THX!

    i3-8100 vs g3930

Hello selfhosters, I have opportunity for free CPU upgrade from g3930 to i3-8100, but not sure is it worth? Server ATM is happy DIY PC build made from desktop components: + MBO: MSI Z270-A PRO + CPU: intel G3930 + RAM: DDR4 8GB + PSU: ATX 550W + plus storage and no GPU Im running debian with 30+ containers (*arrs, jellyfin, nextcloud, pihole, npm and many more) and its amazing for our needs (2 users), pulls around 20-25 W on idle from the wall. I could use bit more juice to speed up Nextcloud for example and maybe to be able to transcode 4K in the future (don't have any 4K screen yet)? Not sure if this upgrade can help at all? Now I got i3-8100 for free, but not sure is there any downside like extra power usage on idle? I would like to avoid replacing CPU for unnoticable performance increase. Comparing specs its pure upgrade and i3 is 2x more expensive. One of them will probably end up like e-waste in one of the hidden boxes that I keep away from everyone including myself :D All suggestions are welcome

    Remote desktop

Hello selfhosters, I've been using different remote desktop apps to support few friends and family members with their Windows or Linux desktop machines. Sometimes I also use phone (Android) when I'm away from home. I tried 3 services so far: 1. TeamViewer - its amazing, but it recognized me as non-private user and asking for money... 2. AnyDesk - even better experience than TeamViewer. It also started with non-private use and messages to buy a license (after creating account it stopped doing that). It works perfectly fine, but sometimes it gets super slow and it tends to reduce stream quality by too much 3. RustDesk - finally found open source solution and it has the same features like others I tried. The problem with RustDesk is simmilar to AnyDesk, sometimes its super slow, laggy and with reduced stream quality and sometimes connection breaks. It has permanent message on the bottom: >Ready, For faster connection, please set up your own server. Sounds like a perfect task for my server on fiber network. I checked self hosted RustDesk service, but it requires opening ports. I have open wireguard port to my home server to connect to home network when needed. I don't like idea of opening more ports just because it doesn't feel safe in my hands, but maybe I'm wrong. Am I missing something? What do you use for remote desktop? Do you have the same experience with any service I mentioned here? Is anyone selfhosting RustDesk server? Are there better (free or affordable) alternatives available? I prefer selfhosted if possible. 10$ a month is kinda steep for me and my needs. I don't need super high quality stream, but would be nice to have simple solution that just works All tips are welcome

[SOLVED] Firefox and local dns host names

[SOLVED] replaced router (for another reason) and new model works fine somehow Hey guys, my Firefox on Android cant open selfhosted services using DNS host names on home wifi. I moved to a new place, got new router, configured server with new local IP. On PC everything works fine, but on Android Firefox I get "Address Not Found" when I try to open local hostname. Using IP:port works, but its been working fine before we moved. Chrome on Android works fine, desktop PC works fine. Im running pihole and nginx proxy manager on server (I reconfigured pihole, but settings should be the same as before). I have set server IP in router DNS settings. I have set static IP for wifi network on phone and DNS address of server (I think I didnt need this before, but now it doesnt work in chrome without it). I have 2nd pihole on rpi4 as secondary DNS server on both router and phone settings, but its not in use yet. When I reconnect to wifi firefox can open the page for like first 20 sec and then it stopps working. What am I doing wrong? Ive been using firefox on android exclusively before we moved

    ISP router wifi range

Hello Lemmy, We finaly moved to a new place with fiber connection woop! ISP installed [ZXHN F670L FTTH](https://www.ycict.net/products/zte-zxhn-f670l-ftth/) next to entrance door where electronic cabinet is. Appartment is just 60 m2 and we have issues with wifi signal. Tv (Xiaomi TV stick) is mounted on the wall just 4-5 m from the router (no door, just corner of the wall is barrier from the line of sight). I can see 2.4 GHz wifi at 50% signal and 5 GHz takes like 30 sec to even show on TV menu. 5 GHz wifi is at 20-30% only and when I connect its unusable. PC in next room is losing connection all the time and thats behind 2 walls. If Im not just next to a router, I have better signal from 2 neighbours that use same ISP (I can tell from SSID). I called them and they said techician will come on monday to check and possibly replace router with some Huawei model. I still have old (coax cable) router from old place, I placed it in same spot for testing and signal is much better. Still not perfect, but TV has 80-90% and PC in next room is almost the same. Do I just have crappy router or my walls are wifi unfriendly what do you think? I dont need super high speed on wifi, but I need stable connection (2 android phones, 1 work laptop, 2 smart switches and few smart appliances). More important devices like server and main PC are using cable connection. This router has 1GB LAN ports and Im fine with that since my speed is 300/100 only. 100 Mbps would be plenty for Wifi. Should I stick with 2.4 GHz and fight with neighbour routers? Can I expect better signal from Huawei (sorry dont know exact model yet)? What if ISP cant provide proper solution, what wifi AP would you recommend? I could place AP in another room and connect to a router via UTP cable. Thx in advance

Is it safe to connect TV power from A/C unit?

Hey guys, Im in the process of moving to a new place. The wall where I want to mount TV doesnt have any power socket, but there is indoor A/C unit just next to it. Can I just connect a power strip cable to A/C unit terminals and use it as a socket for my LCD TV? Is there any risk Im not aware of? I live in EU and have 220V AC mains. AC is ~1kW indoor unit and also ~1kW outdoor unit. TV is just regular 43" LCD. I have a general knowledge about electricity (high school), but have no experience with A/C units. Cheers

    Demanding selfie to unsibscribe

Hello nice people, I've been using NiceHash app for some time 5-6 years ago. (It was a simple app for mining cryptocurrency and you get paid in bitcoin on their wallet, then you could transfer bitcoin to another wallet.) It was working fine until they got hacked (or fooled us) and lost all crypto. Luckily I didn't loose much like some guys did. I decided not to use the service anymore and I'm still receiving stupid e-mail newsletters. I tried to unsubscribe and It asks me for login, I know password, but don't have 2fa anymore. Also I don't have backup 16 words. Now support told me that this is the only way and I feel ridiculous about taking selfie just to unsubscribe. Am I protected against this somehow? I live in Europe and I think Nicehash is located in neighbourhood. And of course I never wanted to subscribe...and I don't think I ever verified account with a document. What are my options other than just filtering that shitty domain as spam? edit: typo

    Best Camera and Gallery app

Hey guys, Im trying to get rid of google apps so I have installed GCAM port MGC_8.9.097_A11_V4_ENG and simple gallery pro from fdroid. They are both amazing, but when Im in camera app and I want to use thumbnail to open last picture in gallery, it does open but then after 2 sec screen refreshes like I reopened the app. And even worse, if I try to open gallery right after taking picture it will open new picture for 2 sec and then screen refresh and switch to 2nd last picture. Anyone had simmilar experience? Different versions of apps didnt help and cant find any replacement that works. I also cleared catch and data for both. Im using non rooted Motorola G42

NPM and SSL for local use only

[SOLVED] I had to open ports 80 and 443 (maybe 1 was enough, idk) while renewing certs ! Now its time to learn how to do it without opening ports (: Hey guys, I have nginx proxy manager running in docker container on my home server. I don't have any ports open (other than wireguard) and I was using custom local domain .tride to access my services. Everything works fine, I can use https://portainer.tride, https://homeassistant.tride, etc. I want to get rid of warnings about the risk that I have to accept to continue. Not a big deal for Firefox on desktop, but its kinda annoying on Android. Also I think it stops me from using some services that require SSL certs (like floccus). I tried to create a LetsEncrypt certificate using DNS challenge and DuckDNS in NPM. I also tried to download certs and import to Android, CA cert is added successfully, but didn't work. Now I bought example.com domain from porkbun.com and trying to set it up: 1. Created CNAME on porkbun - *.example.com pointing to my example.duckdns.org 2. Created cert using same procedure (DNS challenge and DuckDNS in NPM) with hosts *.example.com and example.com 3. Created Local DNS records in PiHole Now I get strange behavior, sometimes I can open portainer.example.com with no problem, no warning, perfect. Then sometimes it doesn't load at all and it says "Server Not Found". Some services open normally, but like bookstack.example.com opens broken page and if I click anywhere it redirects me to my old bookstack.tride (still exists in NPM and PiHole) and asking to accept the risk. I'm trying to use services from local network or wireguard only, at least for now. I am also using the same domain for my e-mail at mailbox.org if that matters. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'm sure there is something. I'm happy to listen any suggestion, and sorry for being noob <3
