I love stux, I have a Mastodon account on one of his instances, and I donate every now and then. he's a good human being, and his cats are supreme.
that being said, I feel like sometimes he's a bit ADHD with his side projects, so he creates one, and then just lets it fizzle out over time while he starts two new ones. goldfish.social was one of them, and it looks like the domain has expired and got bought out by someone else. perhaps it's his way of learning new stuff, or preventing himself on getting burned out or something - whichever it is, I'm not judging, he's never making promises that they're long term commitments anyway. his Masto instances have been solid, on the other hand.

Today EU governments will not adopt their position on the EU regulation on “combating child sexual abuse”, the so-called chat control regulation, as planned, which would have heralded the end of private messages and secure encryption. The Belgian Council presidency postponed the vote at short notice. Once again the chat control proposal fails in Council.

A moment I've no doubt many Linux fans have been waiting to see. The Linux user share on Steam has smashed through the 2% barrier. Not actually for the first time though, it did initially rise up above 2% in March 2013, shortly after the original Steam for Linux release when it left Beta. Part of the reason it had higher numbers at the start, was that Valve added a special Tux item into Team Fortress 2 only on Linux but it _quickly_ dropped in the following months.

This week, the European Parliament’s negotiators reached a broad majority agreement on a common position concerning the controversial EU chat control bill. The Commission’s bill proposes bulk scanning and reporting of private messages for allegedly suspicious content by using error-prone algorithms, including „artificial intelligence“. But the European Parliament’s position removes indiscriminate chat control and allows only for a targeted surveillance of specific individuals and groups reasonably suspicious of being linked to child sexual abuse material, with a judicial warrant. End-to-end encrypted messengers are exempted. Instead, internet services will have to design their services more securely and thus effectively prevent the sexual exploitation of children.
