We’re coming into my favorite time of year, and if you’re a horror fan like me, you’re probably just as excited as I am for the autumn months. Of course, we read horror all year around, but there’s something about reading horror in the fall that just hits different. They don’t call it spooky season for nothing, after all! And in fall 2024, we’re getting so many exciting new horror reads to get us through our favorite season. There’s so much good horror coming out this September. It was hard to narrow it down to just ten titles to share with you. Included in this list are some of my most anticipated horror novels of the whole year. Along with some classic scary things like ghosts and vampires (a whole lot of vampires), September is coming through with fresh new horror concepts you’ve never read before. Scary horror video games. A violent world with no fear. A home improvement show with a spooky twist. The list goes on. Every book on this list deserves to be on your TBR this season. So grab a PSL, put up your creepy Halloween decorations, enjoy the cool breeze and the changing leaves outside, and most importantly, pick up these horror books as soon as they hit shelves. (...)

https://collider.com/bliss-horror-movie/ Joe Begos’ 2019 Bliss blends all the grungy glamor of a Bret Easton Ellis novel with 1970s campy body horror to the grand heights of mind-altering cosmic horror. Starring Dora Madison as Dezzy, a Los Angeles artist struggling to paint now that she’s sober, Bliss takes the audience on a bender like no other. As Dezzy falls back into drugs and partying, she makes great strides in her painting, at the cost of waking up covered in blood with no memory of the night before. Breaking her sobriety with a new drug, bliss, Dezzy experiences terrifying and surreal visions. Under the influence, her friend, Courtney (Tru Collins), slips her something else entirely. Dezzy begins to experience a thirst for blood that sends her into a bloody spiral. As Dezzy roams Los Angeles’ party scene, high and wild, the walls of reality begin to collapse around her. The horror could be an induced hallucination, or it could be real. Through a carefully curated aesthetic and eclectic editing, Bliss drugs the viewer alongside Dezzy to simulate a 90-minute-long trip unlike any other. (...) Upon check-in, he is told that next door to his room is a room with no number, and is warned not to go into that room. Eldritch horror, monsters, Cthulhu…These are the associations that spring to mind in discussions about Howard Phillips Lovecraft. The author is predominantly known for his distinctive and atmospheric horror stories – often referred to as Lovecraftian horror – which centre on the existential dread provoked by the vastness of the universe and cosmic insignificance. (...) Lovecraft’s literary philosophy, cosmicism, emerges from his deep exploration of astronomy. Cosmicism fundamentally embraces posthumanist ideals in emphasising humanity’s insignificance in a vast cosmos, a theme vividly embodied in Lovecraft’s weird fiction. As he states: “It is man’s relation to the cosmos–to the unknown–which alone arouses in me the spark of creative imagination. The humanocentric pose is impossible to me, for I cannot acquire the primitive myopia which magnifies the earth and ignores the background.” (Lovecraft in Joshi 2013, 686) (...)

The central plot revolves around the teenage daughter, Madison, who appears to be in a state of distress, lying face-down on the kitchen floor...** One of the most interesting aspects is that the short film is not just a standalone piece of fiction; rather, it serves as the starting point for a more complex series of internet puzzles featuring codes and multiple videos to discover online.
