I thought about not going but it didn't seem like it would stop bleeding. Unfortunately it wasn't the type like a slice where you could hold it together and it clots up and stops bleeding. The doctor couldn't stitch it either, I think the word he used was "trimmed". Deep enough to continue bleeding but no way to close it up, hence the cauterisation. It's not fun I can tell you, it's also on my dominant hand which is annoying as I can't get it wet!

Well it finally happened, sliced a chunk out of my thumb using a mandoline last night. Spent almost 4 hours at two different ED’s to get it cauterised and a tetanus shot as it wouldn’t stop bleeding. Now my thumb is wrapped up in a super tight bandage that can’t get wet for 2 days and I have to take antibiotics again.
Shouldn’t have got cocky with the mandoline 😮💨

That's great. I agree a lot of adidas/Nike gear is pretty lacking in durability yet they still charge a premium for them

I see. The doc at first was going to prescribe amoxicillin, but mentioned if it was glandular fever it would make it worse. But she changed it to roxithromycin which should be safe according to her.
I think I'm getting better, but I'm still taking a few pain killers which makes it hard to tell if I'm actually better.

Well they haven't got back to me with the test results yet, but I already started taking them and the antibiotics. It's definitely seemed to help me yesterday and I managed a much better sleep last night without as much pain on waking up. What should I be concerned about with the steroids with glandular fever? I understand antibiotics wouldn't do anything as it's not a bacterial infection.

Thanks, luckily managed to squeeze in and get a doctors appointment this morning, so now have some extra antibiotics and steroids to take. She is thinking either strep throat or glandular fever, also did a blood test so they can confirm.

The stupid thing is I know exactly how I got it too. My wife had it for around two weeks previous and lost her voice and everything. Then a couple weeks ago I stupidly grabbed her cup from the night before which hadn't been washed yet (I usually wash them up in the morning) to quickly get a cup of water to drink. I remember thinking "it'll be fine.."

Currently day 10 of whatever sickness has been going around. Spent all of last week with constant nausea, then last weekend in bed. Been popping ibuprofens and paracetamols for the last few days just to get through. Still getting a bit of nausea, but head and ears are feeling lots of tension and throat is swelling up, but now combined with the fun being unable to sleep through the night for the last few nights! To top it all off can't get a doctor's appointment for more than a week. I guess I'll just resign myself to either being better or dead by then.

Unfortunately it’s probably too easy to get shut down due to IP laws here. Anyone selling the stuff that gets even remotely popular would attract the attention of the law.
Counterfeit clothes can be very hit and miss though. I lived in Southeast Asia for awhile where you could get it easily and there is a lot of it that is crap quality.
Personally I don’t buy many clothes any more, but the little that I do buy I’m happy to spend more on quality so it lasts longer.

The Guardian article seems to be a bit light on details. It seems they were asked to remove the food or leave and get a refund but refused before getting into a "heated exchange" with staff, then the police were called. Apparently the brought in "a lot of outside food", “Beverages, snacks, hot food, you name it.”
I haven't been to the cinemas for a long time, sneaking in lollies and stuff was a given, but I think it's understandable not to bring in hot foods and meals. Considering they've always had rules about no outside food, getting caught means either getting rid of your food or leaving. I wouldn't verbally abuse staff if I'm the one breaking their rules.
The Herald article has a lot more detail: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/food-brought-into-pukekohe-movie-theatre-women-trespassed-police-called-after-heated-exchange/YPZA3KB3ZBCPVPLYMXIIACUBMQ/

I'm not sure locally you can find counterfeit clothes easily, and they may be of variable quality if you do manage to find someone doing it without being shut down.
I do remember from my sneaker obsessed days that there were sellers on Taobao that sold "replica" sneakers. Not sure about cheaper end Adidas but I remember on reddit there was a sub for discussing "replica" clothes and shoes, r/fashionreps or something? You might be able to find an international source there.
Many years ago I went to Hong Kong and Shenzhen and picked up a number of "replica" luxury watches for myself. They had them by grades and you could choose to spend more for higher grade replicas. I think I was paying $100-$150 for replicas of $10000+ watches which most people wouldn't be able to tell they were fakes. I still remember they would bring out catalogues from watch manufacturers and tell you what they have available and what grade they were. The whole replica industry is pretty interesting.

Good food is wasted on kids honestly, they always want the most basic tasting food. My favourite way for broccoli is to toss it in oil, salt, garlic powder and pepper then roast in a really hot oven or bbq so it gets a bit charred all over. Gets a really nice nutty flavour to it.
Currently the youngest just wants whatever we're eating. Sometimes she doesn't even know what it is and immediately wants it when she sees us eating it 😂

Do you actually care about the branding? If you don't just get the highly rated stuff on Temu/Aliexpress, it's likely made in the same factories.

My eldest used to like broccoli, but now doesn't. We don't eat it with cheese sauce though!

I was watching the chat too, but got too lost with all the different things going on. It seemed liked they didn't decide to extend the pink and blue to the left until pretty late? I remember doing a little to help finish the right side earlier on today.
Everything still looks pretty great and the whole thing is really well filled out.

Things such as changing the sick leave rules would help ease the pressure on businesses, or simplifying the Holidays Act.
"While the government doesn't have any money they have other levers they can use to remove red tape."
Sounds like Retail NZ wants them to erode worker rights and protections as well, I’m sure those retail workers will appreciate that.

I’m all for housing intensification in cities and flooding the market, but for the love of god can they please invest in improving public and alternative transport infrastructure? I already hate returning to visit Auckland due to how bad the traffic is

I mean what do they expect? Literally everything is going up in price, Mortgage rates, insurance, power, food, internet etc. Unless you’re already well off I can imagine a lot of people are just paying to survive right now, let alone having money for discretionary spending. Not to mention we’re supposed to save and invest for our futures as well..

I was thinking it could be used for cooking since it's mainly oil, but I'm thinking the amount of sugar might not work well. I've seen people use it on the outside of grilled cheese sandwiches to crisp it up. Otherwise into the compost it goes!

Highly recommend no one buys Woolworths Essential’s brand Mayonnaise. Absolutely disgusting, looked like glue and also super sweet. I realised after the fact it’s vegan, so no eggs.. Mayo with no eggs! Even my Mayo/Aioli loving kid thought it was gross.
Not sure what to do with the jar of it now, feels wasteful to throw it away though 🤮

>On March 18, 2022, scientists at the Concordia research station in the east Antarctic recorded the largest spike in temperature ever recorded with the region experiencing a rise of 38.5C above its seasonal average. >Unfortunately, it's not an isolated event with an increasing number of meteorologic anomalies being reported on the continent in the past two years. The [sea level rise map that was linked](https://coastal.climatecentral.org/map/12/174.7993/-36.9036/?theme=water_level&map_type=water_level_above_mhhw&basemap=roadmap&contiguous=true&elevation_model=best_available&water_level=5.0&water_unit=m) is interesting, I propose Hamilton to be the new international airport since both Auckland and Wellington's will be underwater
Sorry, I had to share as it's been stuck in my head since yesterday.
I see it's based on the book by Hugh Howey, who also did the Silo series which I really enjoyed the TV adaptation of. I'm wondering if it's any good as I don't have a lot of time for starting too many TV shows at the moment.
Jokes about Hamilton aside, this kind of sucks. As someone who lives here it's sad to see and I'll get to pay for it through rates rises too!
I picked up a cheap Inkbird sous vide earlier in the year and it’s been great to use for steaks etc. But we haven’t been buying much meat lately due to prices and I’m wondering if I’m overlooking any less obvious uses for it?
Feel free to share your favorite Weird Al songs!
Really? Trying to capture the NIMBY vote?
Always found this a banger. Make sure you have both sides of your headphones in.
The Spirituality and Distortion album has quickly become one of my favourites.
I've been listening to the Morning View album recently and it still holds up 22 years later IMO
I'm curious to know what others think of this. I'm personally for keeping it as I see the benefit coming in a few years having many more EV's available in the second hand market. Currently it's pretty much dominated by mainly Nissan Leaf's at the lower end of the secondhand market. I know of a few people as well who have bought EV/Hybrids recently that would not have even considered going for EV's or even hybrids without the rebate.
