Depends on what you do / like to do

There are sailing apps I use a 3rd party watch face (data lover) Playrun for listening to podcasts Spotify (until YouTube music is available for my watch)

Congrats on the watch. I've been using Garmin's since around 2013 starting with a 910xt.

I don't care about any game stats for my phone but it is annoying that my P9P XL lags when it's connected to AA and I want to grab it fast, double click the power button to open the camera and snap a quick picture.

I've experienced the same lag with previous Pixels. Assumed it was a RAM issue and maybe it is, but it's annoying nonetheless.

Easiest thing to do would likely be join a local running group that has various training distances/pace groups

The one I ran with had two annual sessions for half and full training (a long with 5k/10k ).

When I was training for my first ultra (Yamacraw 50k) I just did the full plan with the training group + 4 miles extra on the long Saturday run. Typically I could find a fool to run them with me :)

At least some of Garmin watches have workout suggestions for daily motivation as well as actual training plans you can do. (Found in the connect app) I don't think the suggestions are always great but what you can do is see your training loads in the different zones and decide if you want/should do some intervals or not. My experience with suggested workouts is I can get multiple days of high intensity in a row which I know makes no sense but the watch is trying to get time in that zone in the "range"

I'm ok with a decent amount of tech in a car. Like I'm fine being able to connect my phone to the car and have android auto take over the infotainment system.

But the HVAC stuff needs to be buttons I can access/control without looking or very minimal looking.

I don't want/need my car to have a SIM card, or connect to wifi, and report what I'm doing. If they want to do that, then they can give me the car for free and I'll drive it around letting them collect my driving habits.

Edit: Oh, and I'm sure as hell not paying some subscription fee on top of the price of the car.

I did go into developer settings last night and disabled the audio sync. "Disable absolute volume" and that didn't seem to change anything. (I did not try to raise the volume on my buds after I was at max on phone though)

I've never noticed this 'issue' before. However I realize I did just copy a bunch of crap to this phone, install updates, etc... I'm also having some weird tasker behavior where it is randomly crashing. That was actually the driver of the reboot this morning as I had updated/toggled some permissions that didn't seem to be sticking.

I exclusively run in 2-in-1 shorts that have built in spandex like liners. Some are more 'compression' than others. Most are just supportive, not compression. I like the Nike 2in1s and they last a LOT of miles. I've tried a few cheap amazon brands and not liked them nearly as much. The liners are never as supportive.

This is my same complaint. I have been using Garmin watches for fitness, and when they got got a little less utilitarian looking I started wearing it full time to be a watch/track steps and continue tracking fitness activities.

I would like a better notification handling and ability to reply to notifications/message but not at the expense of battery life.

I got a Pixel 2 watch 'free' with the purchase of a Pixel 8Pro last year. I tried wearing it for a few weeks, and no surprise, the battery life is just not enough for me (non starter). Second, IMHO that watch overall is too small. My Garmin is the largest they have (Fenix 6X Pro) as it had the best battery life. Going down to the tiny screen/battery Pixel watch 2 was just never going to work for me.

The 3 has two sizes now which is nice, but the battery life is still way to short.

I'd like their upper watches to have some more smart features, but not at the expense of battery life.

My Fenix has NFC payments, it gets notifications. Holds music/podcasts so I connect headset directly to it.

But reading and responding to notifications is clunky.

Still, for me Garmin is the way to go.

I got a pixel watch 2 last year when I bought a Pixel phone and tried wearing it. Loved the extra smart features but couldn't stand the battery life. Just a non starter for me

Problem with the smarter fitness watches is battery life. My Fenix can go about 2 weeks with running 4 days a week. I do t want to have to manage charging my watch so often it's a pain to capture my life. (Sleeping, steeps, activities)

Garmin watches, IMHO more rugged and they do not put their software behind a paywall. You'll pay for it in the cost of the watch.

I've been using Garmin for fitness since about 2013, I have use a Charge HR for steps/fitness alongside my Garmin watches when I used them only for activities.

Eventually I replaced that with a garmin Fenix 3HR that did steps, activities and looked good enough to wear all the time

    I have a Fenix 6 now.

Oh ya... Marathons have come and gone for me :) Initially because they were just expensive but COVID had me WFH full time and the group I ran with was near my work office. So I sort of morphed into running alone and just as maintenance vs. Training for something.

I'm about to hit 53 and try to run between 15-20/miles a week still but I did fall behind on my fitness the end of last year when I had some crazy back spasms after sneezing (of all things) that really set me back. Takes forever to get back. Luckily I do not have any physical issues (knees etc) most if my issues now are not eating healthy enough and general motivation to improve. Sounds like I've got about 7 years to get on top of it so I can cruise through that age too :)

Interestingly enough, a random couple things happened when I was between 43-44 that lead to me start distance running and run my first full marathon about 4 months before I turned 44.

I was decently fit before, but didn't run any distance above a maybe 5 miles. I do not remember anything negative happening around that time or shortly after. I was actually increasing my cardio endurance dramatically over the next 5 years or so.

McDonald's Experience by non McDonald's patron.

So, I never visit McDonald's. Oddly, I have managed to visit them twice this year. Once a month ago while traveling and it just worked out that it made the most sense when we stopped for fuel while traveling. And second last night. We were at the lake late and coming home just before 9pm. Most non chain places were closing, and the only local spot open was McDonald's. Had the whole family including my visiting parents. The experience was pretty awful. First, they had 3 employees in the building, and the expectation was that you use the Kiosk. I didn't have 'strong' opinions of having to use it vs. speaking to a human. However after ordering 4 meals on it, it is quite the nightmare for the casual visitor. Probably took 4x as long to order our food. My parents took their order on a second Kiosk and were not even able to complete their order (Parents are in their mid 70s). Not sure what happened, I wasn't watching them. My dad was quite irritated at this point. After asking one of the humans multiple times for help, he took their order at the register. <insert 30 minute wait for food> Our food was placed in their pickup area in bags with napkins (store napkin holder empty). Nearly every burger was overcooked and quite dry. Both my buns were hard. The fry's were luke warm and not very fresh. The meal for 2 adults and 2 14yos was $40 bux. I saw a story on Lemmy last week about how McDonald's profits were down and the general consensus was that it was the over priced food. While I'm sure that has an impact I believe the Kiosk, slow 'fast food' and overall experience has to be a huge negative. My parents were PISSED, and they are historically huge McD Patrons. At least in their case, the price will not be why they do not return. Its the awful experience.

P8P Peak Design Case not working with wireless charging stand

Have been using a P7P and PD case for quite a while now, we moved over to the PD ecosystem because we have both Android and Apple phones in the house and I wanted a way we could all just put our phones into a car mount and charge without having multiple wires. I have an amazon dual charge wireless stand that is 'Made for Google' whatever that means. I use it to charge my P7P w/PD Every Day case, and my Pixel Buds. I received my P8P PD Everyday case Monday, and yesterday I wanted to put it on the stand to charge it up a bit. Set it on there and after a bit noticed a red flashing light. It was NOT charging the phone. Tried placing it again, same issue. As it turn out, the P8P case must have changed enough to cause some issues. P7P + PD Case works fine P8P Naked works fine P8P + $13 amazon magsafe TPU case works fine P8P + PD case does not work. I sent them an email yesterday with details, but buyer beware. *Edit: One other thing about the PD case, is the camera bump protection (lip that is taller than the camera) seems like it's smaller. The P7P lip isn't huge, but the amazon TPU case covered a large part of the bump completely which would create a lot more protection. * Stand: ![](https://infosec.pub/pictrs/image/d2506573-11e4-4842-a70a-668f95978ea8.png) Amazon case that works with stand. ![](https://infosec.pub/pictrs/image/cee61572-9afb-41c6-be0e-51de12cbe273.png)

The 8s screen feels a tad squished in. Everything on screen is a bit smaller. I don't hate that but it's a surprise. I just got my Peak Design case so I can use my PD mounts (motorcycle primarily). The case seems decent however, much like my opinion of the P7P case, I think it could use slightly more lip to protect the screen and camera bump. The screen lip is probably fine if you don't run a glass screen protector, adding that thickness really reduces the lip. Otherwise, I have only really spent time setting it up, not much time using it yet :).
