DC area checking in. They are super popular right now, especially roasted or deep fried. Fortunately, I haven't seen anyone serving the boiled nasties my mom used to make...

That looks fabulous! I really like the big stitched and the drape. You are all set for winter. :)
I didn't learn about this until today.

Ooh, I forgot about Sheetz. They used to have good breakfast sandwiches. I've never made it to a buc-ees, but I've heard good things.

Yeah, most of them do double duty with a shop inside. The snacks and drinks usually have a high markup, but there aren't a lot of free-standing minimarkets except for a few 7-11s.
Then there's Wawa, which is the weird outlier. :) I think they sell gas as a side business. The inside is all about getting food.

Cool! Post a picture if you make one. It's a little fiddly at the end, but fun and quick to make.
I used a random scrap of some terrible thick stuff from joann's. My advice would be to use a thinner piece of Aida or evenweave, or make a bigger rectangle. The corners were really difficult to squish shut.

Interesting to know about the origin of the word. I read somewhere that it is based on the shape of a candy, but I've never seen ones like that.
The shape reminds me of the little cardboard orange juice containers I had in elementary school. :)
I made a neat shape yesterday called a humybug. I'd never done one before. Followed the tutorial here: https://plushcat.blogspot.com/p/humbug-tutorial.html. You start with a rectangle and sew it into a little tetra shape. It's cute. I think it would make a good cat toy. :) ![first you make a rectangle](https://lemmy.nz/pictrs/image/90f44e69-1104-4b59-9a65-e54072c42256.jpeg) ![and then you sew it into a little pyramid ahape](https://lemmy.nz/pictrs/image/3965fe26-e687-4a54-b0c7-2a5848c93402.jpeg)

Also a heavy computer user and I have terrible joints that hurt constantly. My tips (they aren't that great, but I'm still stitching even if it's less than I would like...) are as follows.
Check your ergonomics. Make sure you are staying relaxed while you stitch (no death grips). Look into getting a frame or another setup that lets you stitch with both hands.
Take frequent breaks. Massage your hands and stretch your arms and shoulders, look around the room and move your head and neck. You can find stretches and hand exercises specifically for crafters. I think they help with general stiffness.
Heat or ice your hands when you are done depending on what makes you feel better. Sometimes I also keep a hot tea near me to hold while I'm taking a break. Compression gloves might help if you want to try them.
You might also need to mix up your crafts and find some alternatives to do when your joints don't want to cooperate.
Good luck!!

Good idea for the rulers. That's a great find for $30!
My cats have a magnetic attraction to everything they shouldn't touch. They will stay off my desk for weeks, but are always around as soon as any thread or yarn comes out...

You could make an onion gravy with veggie stock and really caramelized onions. I'd add miso or nutritional yeast to add some savory flavour in with the sweet onions.
Or try this chickpea gravy recipe from ppk as a starting point. I've been making and tweaking it for years (see the comments about the lemon juice and texture). It's not like a smooth meat sauce gravy, but it is really tasty on potatoes.

Oh, one thing I do that's helped me with floss is break it into separate groups for storage. Mine are roughly in sets of 200s by dmc number. More empty space in the containers, but less annoying to shift when I buy new colors.

That's a very nice cart! I keep all my stuff in big clear plastic bins in the closet, organized by category/item (fabric, floss, beads, projects, etc). Lots of smaller bins and bags inside. It's not pretty, but it keeps the light, dust, and cats away.
I'd like a cart for current projects. That would be nicer than pulling out my bins all the time. :)

That's really pretty! I thought it was a close up of a tiny sweater until I read the needle size. What yarn are you using?
It's summer in the southern hemisphere. Perfect time to knit a pair of wool socks!! This is a toe up, 3x1 rib sock with fish lips short row heel. Probably too bulky to go in shoes, but I can wear them around the house when it's cooler out. Yarn is Naturally Gallipoli from the craft store. It feels a lot nicer than I expected. ![hand knit sock on foot](https://lemmy.nz/pictrs/image/e4ccdc26-1646-44c5-ac41-9d4773add58c.jpeg)
I used the recipe from Korean Bapsang blog, and tossed in an extra red capsicum. https://www.koreanbapsang.com/japchae-korean-stir-fried-starch/. Very tasty, and I like how she makes a batch of sauce at the start. No pics. We ate it all.
I made the [criss cross top pattern](https://www.purlsoho.com/create/2018/08/31/criss-cross-top/) a few years ago on my lk-150 knitting machine. I converted it to knit flat and match my gauge using knit picks cotlin. The ribbing and cable are hand manipulated, which involves changing the orientation of stitches (purls to knits) and moving the individual stitches to different needles on the needle bed. It was pretty tricky to do the big 9x9 cable cross on the machine because it couldn't stretch the yarn across the needle distance. I ended up hand sewing shut the large holes on either side when I did the finishing. I think it came out nice, but I don't really wear sleeveless tops. It just hangs out in my closet collecting dust. :)
![](https://lemmy.nz/pictrs/image/6faf7201-ebc3-45bc-8503-06fd0d5a9c19.jpeg) All my stitchy stuff is either in a storage unit or in transit as part of a big move, so I've been stuck with one Santa kit, the extra aida from the kit, and random thread leftovers in a ziplock baggie. I could buy supplies, but I'm way too cheap to buy things I already own. I used the scraps to make some goofy decorations for my home office. Just winged the patterns, no finishing, stuck to the wall with t-pins for now.
