I would like to add: people incredibly underestimate the convenience of having data on Blu-ray rather than on HDD/SSD: Blu-rays last longer and, if purchased cheaply (as in the case of the cheap PS3 game market), have a comparable or superior cost-benefit ratio.
In this case we can say that the console, given its low price on the second-hand market (and if with a working blu-ray player), is incredibly convenient even without the pirate aspect.

Nobara is very good for middle user that just want a ready-to-game distro; Bazzite is best for noobs, thanks to immutability; for an experienced user there are no reasons to not use Arch.

Arch. Bazzite/Nobara are for noobs (in a positive way, don't get me wrong). Gaming is in spot where you want stability but also a rolling release, since we have daily improvements on essential packages; as an experienced user you can use Arch for that; consider also even Valve is on it with the Steam Deck (Arch-based).

If you want to learn more in depth about how Proton works I suggest you to ask here on [GloriousEggroll's Discord](https://discord.gg/6y3BdzC.
For emulation, X360 and PS3 needs intense resources and their emulators may be in an early development state; look back to the previous generations, maybe with a cool megabezel shader on RA.

Proton is Wine with prefixes, basically, you can use it without Steam on Lutris for example (Wine-GE suggested); also, emulation for old games isn't so demanding, try different cores for RetroArch.
SolarPunker 2 weeks ago • 100%
Ok this is the closest thing i have found but i haven't tried setting it up yet: https://forums.libretro.com/t/official-release-thread-for-windowcast-core/40464
From an user "the only way to run non-retroarch programs within retroarch is via the Windowcast-Core, but all that really does is allow you to use shaders and overlays. it also adds some latency, so I wouldn't really recommend it anyway."

It's much simpler and faster than it seems! Also consider that the setup of Lutris and Wine is to be done only once.

Hi, I recently discovered a post that finally allowed me to run the known repacks on Linux, so I decided to summarize everything and share it with you here on Lemmy; let me know if you would improve some steps to make the procedure even easier to follow. ### Requirements lutris, protonup-qt, wine-staging ### Set Up Lutris 1. Yes, bluetooth. The controller is seen again by the OS and then by Steam but not by games already started.
EndeavourOS (Arch Linux) user here. Is this just me? Everything works perfectly, but if the controller turns off and on again while a game is running, it's no longer recognized, and this forces me to restart the game. I don't know how useful it is but I tried to join the **input** group, nothing changed.

Nice, but the platform we need more is Peertube
The beautiful games I own are Snake Pass and Sonic Racing Transformed, both of which have sound issues (muffled audio) when played through a cheap soundbar via bluetooth, **audio for all other games with this soundbar works perfectly**. I'm on EndeavourOS (Arch Linux) using repository Steam, KDE Plasma and Pipewire. I've tried all the different proton versions (experimental, 9, 8, 7, 3, etc) without success. Maybe I could solve it by removing pipewire but I don't think it's worth worsening the entire OS, since it's only about these two titles. Q: - The problem seems to not appear on other distros, like Debian (maybe due to different packages / pulseaudio?). - Coincidentally it only happens with these two SumoDigital games, could proton be missing some component commonly used in these games? - Since I can't find any relevant solutions online, I assume that the problem only exists with this type of Bluetooth audio device. [edit] AtM I "solved" it by connecting the speaker via cable.

I'm sorting out my collection of native games and ROMs, Pegasus requires some forethought to customize the collections as I want but it seems like the best option. Do you know of interesting and equally customizable alternatives like Pegasus that are not proprietary and are comfy with the gamepad?

Thanks for reply. Yeah would be nice to have a more complete Lutris in the future but it looks like it's purpose is more "proprietary oriented", supporting stores and Discord (for example). I'd like the idea of a RetroArch with non-emulated games supported, maybe with a 'compatibility core'.
It’s just me or RetroArch developed the best FLOSS alternative to proprietary UI? You have a nice overlay, CRT shaders, bezels, some netplay function, customizable interface. All of this completely free and super fast. Wouldn’t be nice to also launch non-emulated games from here?

A thousand thanks! I don't know why it was on by default, I find it quite annoying.
The cursor randomly enlarges every now and then. Anyone else experiencing the same problem? If so, have you solved it? Could this be due to using different containers? I use flatpaks for everything apart from a few exceptions where I use distrobox, and in these the Plasma cursor is slightly different, but it doesn't justify the bug but just a different version of the cursor.

Where do you download? Excluding particular cases, what are the common steps you take to make most games playable? Where do you keep and launch your collection? I know there are in-depth guides but I wanted a more genuine commentary on your experience.

Think about it, Linux is the most future-proof OS, not threatened by companies or commercial interests, and the same can be said for Lemmy in the world of decentralized communication for topics of interest. Without these two things the preservation of video games would be greatly in danger.
