Person on public transport was playing music on phone at full blast. Then looked up and started loudly yelling at passengers. Luckily got off after a few stops. I’m used to occasionally seeing this kind of thing, but today I wondered, does the mentally ill person know they are mentally ill? Are they aware they are frightening others, including kids. What are they feeling when they do these things? I guess whatever is in their heads is logical. I hope to never experience it.

From my observations it’s the same or worse everywhere else. At least we can vote people out without violent riots.

There is a new resident in the neighbourhood. It’s a bird. It goes chirp chirp chirp, chirp chirp chirp, chirp chirp chirp, pause. Then repeat. For 20min, staring at 5:30am. I normally like nature but this is testing my tolerance.

All of the above! Plus snacks are tasty, it’s a reason to have a break, and can focus better if not feeling hungry. Might try having a smaller lunch and healthy snacks, which might balance it out rather than trying to eliminate the snacks.

Agree, I love these type of shows. A similar excellent one is White Lotus. It’s a whodunit without the amateur detectives, shows a body in the first episode and then the rest is revealing all the hijinks that led to it.

Today’s protests are hypocritical. Protesting violence with violence? Some of those interviewed seemed to think what they were doing was ok because they believe they have moral superiority and therefore assaulting people attending the expo is ok? Hmm where have I heard that before.

It’s a legitimate societal issue. The mental health and social damage it’s doing to children should not be an accepted as a social media functionality. I don’t know what the answer is, but surely there is a way to achieve both privacy for adult users and age identification for children.

You could take a day trip to somewhere like the gold fields region, or surf coast. Lots of rocks to be found on bush walks, beachside, or even just side of the road. Depends what colour or if you want craggy or smooth.

So sad. Love their brie. I guess I’ll just have to over indulge while it’s still available. It seems like it should be a profitable business? Surely there’s a cheese loving millionaire that wants to buy it? Don’t they want to save their cheese platters? Do it for the good of the nation!

I can tell from the answers who has suffered a narcissist in their life. It’s hard to get your head around, because their behaviour is so confounding to a normal person. The thing that finally clicked for me, is for every behaviour, you have to think how is this about the narcissist. It’s about no one else. They seek adoration, admiration, power, control, status, attention. Constantly. It’s never about you, it’s ALWAYS about them. They feel bitter inside if they don’t get these things. They seek to manipulate situations so they can satisfy their needs. ‘Woe is me’, ‘look how devoted I am’, ‘I’m the most important’ etc could all be motivators. And probably others, that I can’t get my brain to think of, because to a regular person it’s baffling that a person might do something detrimental to a seriously ill person, for their own glory and control. Has nothing to do with the BIL. He’s just a convenient tool. I am so sorry this person is in your life. It’s hard.

So sorry. I have a parent that went full extreme right wing conspiracy nutter during covid and has never come back. We don’t talk anymore, after much trying on my part and none on theirs. I have no advice other than look after your own mental health, because you probably can’t do anything about theirs. They have 100% certainty in their righteousness. I hope your situation is not as bad though. It’s rough, because it’s like loosing a parent. Actually, it is loosing a parent. You’ll grieve and wonder why. But you’ll feel better in time if you prioritise yourself. Took me too long to learn that.

Anxiety can tell you lies. You did the right thing to overcome it and go for your goals. New things can be stressful, this is completely normal. The trick is not to never be nervous, but to overcome it. It will become less with each class as you gain confidence in your achievements. Yay you!

I’ve never been rich enough to live inner city. Grew up in outer suburbs and now live in a middle suburb. Yeah it’s rubbish ammenities compared to all that you get in inner city. But also I don’t have financial stress, I have space for a garden, and can still go to the city when I need to. It’s a compromise I’m ok with.

Oh I completely agree life is not easy for people with disabilities. The difficulties to just live life, let alone participate in sports, are so much greater. I just meant that if you do, then there’s a smaller pool of people. Also at elite level pretty much all regular sports are body shape dependent not skills dependant to start with. Then if you have the lucky body shape genetics, you can work on skills. Probably part of why I’ve never really liked watching or participating in sport. Height categories in basketball would be a much more inclusive way of running the sport.

Taboo musing: it’s easier to win an Olympic medal in paralympics. Ok hear me out, in regular olympics, there are billions of able bodied people and only 1 set of medals per event. But for paralympics, the pool of potential competitors is less and there are many medals per event due to categories. So para athletes have a statistically better chance at being selected and wining a medal.

From what you have described there might be a bit of a harsh truth that no one has said to you in a straight up way. Reading between the lines, they are saying you are poor at communicating task progress, which means probably stuffing other people around causing workplace inefficiencies and pissed off coworkers, because they don’t know the status of things. All jobs have boring components. Doing just the fun bits of your job and leaving the boring bits for others will lead to resentment from coworkers in every single workplace. Changing jobs won’t help this. I think you have to look at it from a team perspective. So I reckon use the grace period they are giving you to turn things around, it will be an asset for the rest of your career if you can overcome this. If I have misread the situation very sorry! Am just trying to help with another perspective.

Geez this stranded astronaut thing is a schmozzle. They are doing a lot of ‘everything is fine’ PR, but it must be stressful to be stuck up there, and I’m sure there are some very tense discussions being had.
This year I grew tomatoes, and found rats are stealing them. I am certain it’s rats because I have seen them. Have tried netting the tomato plants, but rats found ways in. Called an exterminator to bait in the roof and under house. Feel ambivalent about it, because if a predator bird takes an affected rat it may get ill. But I’m located deep in suburbia and have never seen an owl or eagle so I think it’s unlikely. Didn’t work though, still have rats. Have given up on the tomatoes, plants are destroyed. What are your strategies for ridding yourself of ratty pestilences?
