How on earth does it take that long and why did they need the ref to have a look. Maguire is clearly offside and makes himself active by going for the ball. This was much more offside than the Bruno goal against City last season

I'll never forget the first 30 minutes under Rangnick against Palace, we looked the best I'd seen us in years. Then we just never saw it again, it like they all thought "ooh that was a bit tough lads, let's not bother doing that again"

Hi all - just a quick one from me. I have made the decision to step down from moderating the community. I started up this community as an alternative to the subreddit not really expecting it to do much - now we have over 800 members and some great regular content posters. I know I just won't have the time to keep on top of things, even over the last couple of weeks I've barely had time to pop my head in. I leave the community in the very capable hands of [@Skyraptor7@lemmy.world](https://lemmy.world/u/Skyraptor7) - thank you all so much for your contributions over the last few months. I will be sure to keep contributing where I can! GGMU Fuck the Glazers

The tin foil hat in me thinks they're leaking all this to make people not care when they announce they aren't gonna be selling.
Obviously not what they're doing as they aren't capable of thinking of anything that can't be demonstrated with crayons. Do get the feeling they're not gonna sell though
Full Tweet: Really disappointed at how United have handled this. They should be focused on making the correct decision, speaking up in support of victims of domestic abuse & sexual assault, and acting with integrity. The club must realise this isn’t a PR crisis it’s about doing what’s right.

Fair play to Crafton, he's really coming after them and good on him. Club needs to be held accountable for shit like this
Excerpts from the article: Manchester United’s plan to bring back Mason Greenwood was so advanced that the club even prepared documents outlining the type of images that should be taken of the player during training sessions and planned how manager Erik ten Hag should handle questions during an anticipated media storm. According to sources with knowledge of United’s planning, who remain anonymous because they are not authorised to speak publicly, the club’s preparations for Greenwood’s return also included an assessment of the expected sentiment of external figures, listing individual football pundits, journalists and politicians and stating whether they would be for or against Greenwood’s reintegration. The planning divided these people into categories to the effect of “supportive”, “open-minded” or “hostile”. The club’s document listed a series of domestic abuse charities assumed to be “hostile”. \----- Earlier this week, United said in a statement that “the welfare and perspective of the alleged victim has been central to the club’s inquiries”. United’s process was led by Arnold, assisted by the club’s legal counsel Patrick Stewart, communications chief Ellie Norman, football director John Murtough and the chief operating officer, Collette Roche. The internal process has not consulted any charities specialised in supporting women in cases where alleged domestic or sexual abuse has occurred. \----- The Athletic’s reporting of United’s intentions on Wednesday has triggered a significant backlash on social media from football supporters who are opposed to Greenwood’s return and the club’s sentiment trackers, which monitor supporter feeling online, have plummeted in recent days. On Thursday, the prominent British television presenter Rachel Riley warned she would not continue to support the club if Greenwood returned and her social media posts were sent between staff members at the club. \----- The Athletic has also been told by sources close to the club, who will remain anonymous in order to protect their positions, that senior Manchester United executives held multiple intense meetings with staff after we reported on Wednesday that some employees feel ashamed by the club’s decision. Some staff members have discussed resigning in the event United continue to pursue the plan laid out by Arnold, while others have considered coordinated action, with some staff even exploring a strike. \----- The most extreme measures, however, remain hypothetical until the club formally communicates a decision, while it is also the reality of a situation such as this that aggrieved employees are more likely to speak to journalists than those who are either on the fence or supportive of the decision. United’s concern on Thursday and Friday, however, was sufficient for crisis meetings to take place, which involved United executives seeking to justify a return for Greenwood to staff, while also claiming no final decision had been made. Many staff were left with the impression, though, that the plan to bring him back remains. \----- The plan to stage-manage Greenwood’s return went to the lengths of detailing the type of training images that should be taken of Greenwood and how they should be transmitted on club channels. The plan also included the possibility of Greenwood himself doing an extended interview in a few months’ time, once he has bedded back into the club. The medium — whether in-house or via an external broadcaster — of the interview is not clear. United’s planning for Greenwood’s return also contains extensive ongoing psychological and physical support, which includes the player being offered a form of counselling or therapy. A Manchester United spokesman said: “Manchester United has planned for various potential scenarios in relation to the future of Mason Greenwood. The Athletic has been leaked selective elements of one such scenario plan from several weeks ago. This is a difficult and sensitive case. It is entirely proper that we have taken a careful and thorough approach to planning for the various potential outcomes, including how we would engage with stakeholders and explain the decision after it is made. As previously stated, we are in the final stages of that process and will bring it to a conclusion as soon as possible.”

Full Thread: "This morning, I approached Manchester United with a series of facts relating to their internal “process” on Mason Greenwood, which included the detail (undisputed by the club) that chief exec Arnold had told his executive team that the club was planning to bring Greenwood back. As journalists, we provide right of reply to anyone we approach with a time period (deadline) in which they can respond. This is in the interests of balance and accuracy. And we did that today. The usual protocol is that a responder would respond to the journalist first and foremost so any background or comment can be inserted into the story, to ensure balance and accuracy. On this occasion, we were asked to extend our deadline so club could gather its response. Then, simultaneously, around 1545, the club issued a statement on its website, an all-staff email, and a press statement to all journalists who cover the club. And sent to us at same time. As such, the only reasonable conclusion is that today’s United statement was unplanned and cobbled together as the club deliberated how to respond to our story. (Nobody plans to deliver a public statement at 3.45pm on a Wednesday afternoon) Clearly, quite annoying personally, because it felt like an attempt to deflect from/bury our reporting, where we acted in entirely good faith with the club. But way more importantly, it was illustrative of United attempting to seize back narrative on increasingly strained process Personal reading is United are unsettled & panicking that aspects of their choreographed plan made public and they are now witnessing a significant social backlash. I 100% stand by our reporting that Arnold told his exec team in 1st week August of plans to return Greenwood. Of course, having abandoned their first proposed date (4th August), nothing has been announced, which gives the club plausible deniability on a “final decision”. After all, human beings can change their minds. (Likely reason for delay: wanting to brief women’s team still at WC) But it is absolutely in the public interest for supporters of the club to know what has been going on in recent weeks, whatever happens next, and that’s why we reported this."

Yeah they're bringing him. Fuck sake
Following the dropping of all charges against Mason Greenwood in February 2023, Manchester United has conducted a thorough investigation into the allegations made against him. This has drawn on extensive evidence and context not in the public domain, and we have heard from numerous people with direct involvement or knowledge of the case. Throughout this process, the welfare and perspective of the alleged victim has been central to the club’s inquiries, and we respect her right to lifelong anonymity. We also have responsibilities to Mason as an employee, as a young person who has been with the club since the age of seven, and as a new father with a partner. The fact-finding phase of our investigation is now complete, and we are in the final stages of making a decision on Mason’s future. Contrary to media speculation, that decision has not yet been made and is currently the subject of intensive internal deliberation. Responsibility ultimately rests with the Chief Executive Officer. Once made, the decision will be communicated and explained to the club’s internal and external stakeholders. This has been a difficult case for everyone associated with Manchester United, and we understand the strong opinions it has provoked based on the partial evidence in the public domain. We ask for patience as we work through the final stages of this carefully considered process.

Excerpt from Athletic article: West Ham have made a £60million ($76.7m) double bid for Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay. Manchester United rejected a £20m bid for Maguire at the end of July and also dismissed an enquiry close to £30m for McTominay a fortnight ago. But David Moyes is a big admirer of the pair and is pushing for their signings. Erik ten Hag would ideally like to keep McTominay, but is willing to sanction a sale if the money becomes too good to turn down, with United needing to balance the books after bringing in Mason Mount, Andre Onana, and Rasmus Hojlund. West Ham’s proposal for Maguire, around £30m, is getting close to the figure United would accept, but the outcome ultimately depends on his decision. Maguire has wanted to stay at United and fight for his place but his England spot will come in jeopardy if he remains behind Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, and Victor Lindelof.
...Twente are pushing to have Pellistri on loan until June 2024. Man United will decide soon.

Manchester United winger Amad will miss the first part of the Premier League season. The 21-year-old sustained a knee injury during the tour of the United States that is going to keep him out of action. It is a blow to the youngster's hopes of making his mark, after being involved in the earlier stages of our pre-season campaign. Amad is, of course, sidelined for this weekend's double-header against Lens at Old Trafford and Athletic Club in Dublin, with both games live on MUTV. The Ivory Coast international scored in the game against Rayo Vallecano in 2022 when we also had back-to-back friendlies on a Saturday and Sunday. Unfortunately, he has also been ruled out of the first part of the 2023/24 campaign, and we await further details on his estimated recovery date, with the home league clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers up first for Erik ten Hag's Reds on Monday 14 August. Amad enjoyed an excellent season on loan at Sunderland last term, top scoring in the league with 13 goals and helping the Black Cats to reach the Championship play-offs. The news follows confirmation that teenage midfielder Kobbie Mainoo faces a spell out after flying back from the United States with an ankle injury. We would like to wish Amad a speedy return to action!
Full Article: Negotiations are currently taking place with ‘multiple parties’ as the Manchester United takeover saga rumbles on. With the season rapidly approaching, concerns had been raised that a long-running process which started last November might be paused to allow the club’s owners, the Glazer family, to reassess their options. However, Mail Sport understands that the current situation is that discussions are continuing with a number of groups with a view to a full sale or partial investment. The two frontrunners to take over at Old Trafford are Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Both have lodged bids which value United at around £5bn. While Sheikh Jassim’s offer is for a total buyout, the Ratcliffe proposal is for a staged takeover which would allow members of the Glazer family to retain their interest for a set period. There remains a confidence among some close to the Sheikh Jassim bid that they will prevail. However, neither group is thought to have got close to the £6bn that the Glazer are reportedly seeking. That has raised the prospect that the Americans, deeply unpopular with large sections of United’s fanbase since their leveraged, debt-burdening takeover at Old Trafford in 2005, will instead take one of the offers from other investment groups for a partial stake in the club. Sources have disclosed that discussions are taking place ‘with multiple parties’. Such a move would, in theory, provide the funds to give United’s home and training complex desperately-needed refurbishments. Mail Sport can also disclose that architects who have previously worked on a range of plans for such upgrades, which include the building of a new stadium, have not been asked to draft new, scaled-down proposals. While the delay has caused frustration – both groups seeking a takeover believed that a deal would have been completed before the opening of the transfer window – it has not had an impact on manager Erik ten Hag’s summer business given the club are restricted over what they can spend by UEFA’s financial rules. Earlier this week, United announced a 10-year extension to their partnership with kit makers adidas worth a minimum of £900m, which is thought to be the biggest kit deal in Premier League history based on revenue per season. While the development will have buoyed United officials, it is unlikely to have impacted on negotiations which are being by US merchant bank Raine Group. Interested parties were given presentations on the financial state of the club during the sales process which are understood to have been ‘bullish’ and which factored in likely revenue increases such as a new kit deal.
Lisandro Martinez has told Manchester United’s new goalkeeper Andre Onana to keep on rollicking his defenders. Harry Maguire copped an earful from Onana during the second half of United’s 3-2 friendly defeat by Borussia Dortmund in Las Vegas on Monday. Onana tore into Maguire after the England defender had wrongly left the ball during a mix-up with Scott McTominay that ended up with the Cameroonian goalkeeper being forced to make a diving save to deny Sebastien Haller. Onana has only been at United for a fortnight after signing from Inter Milan for £47 million but David de Gea’s replacement in goal has already shown he is unafraid to bark orders at team-mates and admonish them when required. Martinez played with Onana at Ajax and says United have signed a big character as he encouraged the goalkeeper to keep speaking his mind. “It’s better for [it],” the Argentina centre-half said. “If you are focused, you can fight with your team-mates as well. You need to make sure everyone is really sharp, but nothing happened. It’s part of football. “He has a big personality, he can play football, he can deal with the pressure, he’s really positive, he’s a leader. That’s the style of Manchester United.” Maguire was stripped of the United captaincy by Erik ten Hag this summer and replaced by Bruno Fernandes, and Martinez – the club’s first choice centre-half along Raphael Varane – said it was important the manager’s decision was respected. “It’s the coach’s decision and we need to respect it. He’s the boss,” Martinez said. “If he takes the decision, as a player we need to keep going. Bruno is a good leader and a good person as well. He’s really positive in the dressing room and I think he deserves it.” Martinez missed the final 12 matches of last season after suffering a broken metatarsal in the 2-2 Europa League draw at home with Sevilla. But he has shown no signs of holding back since returning to action in pre-season and was booked for bone-crunching challenges on Buyako Saka and Jude Bellingham during games against Arsenal and Real Madrid in the US. “When I play football, I give everything,” he said. “I play like this – with passion – because when I look at the badge, I represent this club and it’s amazing. “All I can give is my body and my heart and everything. I represent this club with my all and I hope all the players do as well. I feel stronger than last season and I think also the team wants to show something different when the league starts so we are fully positive and feel really strong.” Some United fans have wondered if the team would have had a better finish to last season had Martinez not succumbed to injury with United losing the FA Cup final to Manchester City and crashing out of the Europa League in embarrassing fashion. Martinez is too humble to suggest as much but says United must become more clinical in front of goal, stop the sudden collapses they have experienced and improve their disappointing away record next term. “For sure, it’s really hard when you are out, when you can’t help the team but it is what it is and things happen for a reason,” he said. “Now we need to learn, we need to improve many things. It’s part of the process and I think this club will make a lot of success. “I think we need to score more goals and also our away games – we need to win more away games. I think we need to read the games better. We need to read the situation well, we need to be ready and we need to be strong in the mind because football is mental. “When you are losing, sometimes – in one second – you can concede many goals in the Premier League. You can’t sleep but we want to show something different this season.”
