Pretty new to fighting games, myself, so I’m not personally excited for Third Strike, but I’m happy for everyone who is! Very much looking forward to GGS, GBVR, and UNI2, myself. Tekken 8 and SF6 should be fun to watch, too.

Bless at low-to-mid levels and spirit guardians later are the best things Shadowheart can spend her concentration on for, like, 95% of situations. Both spells are extremely good, just like they are in the tabletop. Never understood people criticizing Shadowheart for being useless; she’s a Cleric, and that’s great already even if her subclass (which you can respec her out of) is subpar for the class.

It has a relatively small but dedicated player base still, and gets one or two balance patches a year. Generally pretty easy to find games in quick match, ARAM and ranked mode, but unranked draft is hard to get into (was always a less popular mode).

Game is still fun if you enjoyed it when it was more active, just don’t expect frequent updates unless Microsoft suddenly sees some massive potential for profit and funds it heavily out of nowhere for some reason.

Heh, appreciate the positivity. I don’t mean to say that, because they’re bottom 3, that means Testament can’t win. I mostly use tier lists to help recognize where I may have trouble and need to work to learn the particulars, such as for matchups. The game is very well balanced overall, despite a few small hiccups.

But yeah, my f.S is definitely my main tool for getting hits to confirm off of at range. HS is decent, but very slow and can be punished hard by any sort of disconnected hitbox, so I tend to use it predictively and as a followup more than a poke; great for juggling, though, since it hard bounces. Fireball is a staple, as well, and Arbiter is nice for checking movement (catches dashs if they start out of range).

But yeah. Mostly just need to practice actually using RCs and WAs in real matches. Practiced combos in the lab enough that more isn’t helping a ton.

    Thanks for the advice!

I main Testament. Bottom 3 character, but I love their playstyle and aesthetic, so I’m in it for the long haul with them.

Big things for me right now are learning to do an RC or WA off of hit confirms.

Weekly raiding in FFXIV with friends, M+ in WoW by myself, also started back up in EVE Online again, just grinding a bit of isk to get back into the feel of things again.

For non-MMO stuff, I’ve been slowly getting through Cyberpunk 2077 and working on my all-numbered-FFs playthrough. Still playing Guilty Gear Strive, as well. God, there are too many video games to play.

Getting a little bored in 2077, the DLC patch hasn’t changed anything I had real criticisms of and the gameplay isn’t significantly better to make up for it, but I’ll try to power through and see if the DLC itself is any good.

Also a bit into FF2, and the leveling system is…strange. Definitely not a huge fan of leveling individual weapons/spells, especially on a per-action basis. But while the story seems basic so far, I’m interested enough to keep going with it.

As for Guilty Gear, I’m trying to get more consistent with my buttons, and trying to push myself to actually remember combos in matches. I’m good at neutral, I just don’t get enough from winning it to actually win enough games to progress where I’m at rank-wise (floor 8-9). So, getting more reward from winning neutral seems like the next big step on the path to improvement right now.

The shield-based fighting style was also a small note that was missed in the duel between Paul and Jamis in the movie. Paul was missing what they thought were clear cuts and as a result they believed he was cruelly toying with Jamis, but it was because he was slowing his blade at the very last moment due to shield training.

Also a slightly weird moment for me as a book fan was when the thopter Duncan escaped in clearly showed that it had shields with a rock crashing off of it, but then he was being chased by lasguns immediately after.

Great patch so far, imo. Automelee is quite possibly the best single QoL feature they've ever added, and Dagath has been quite a bit of fun. Still kinda feeling things out with her as far as survivability goes, but I'm starting to get the hang of it with the right mod setup. Dorrclave is also pretty sweet, though I wish it were slightly faster with some of its attacks; just annoying how long some of the animations take.

Was with you until your final point. Per the “Ability Modifiers” section of Attack Rolls in chapter 9, making a melee weapon attack uses Strength. The only exception to this is weapons that have finesse, which the crossbow does not. And despite this being an attack with a ranged weapon, you are using it as a melee weapon attack.

    The New Patch

What are all of you folks thinking about the new patch so far? Personally, I’ve only done games against friends today, but I’ve loved the changes. Damage being overall lower is nice, even if people have more ways to do it now with the WA and their own changes. Scaling being increased almost across the board is huge, because it feels a lot less bad to make a single mistake. For Testament (my main) specifically, I love what I got. Arbiter launching higher has been nice and opens up some new opportunities for combos, and Wild Assault even goes as far as letting me do a wall-to-wall now. My damage did get hit a little, but it doesn’t feel nearly as heavily lowered as some, like Ram. Obviously it’s the first day and there’s some honeymoon-period excitement, but I’m excited so far. How are all of you feeling about it?

Commented this on another instance, just copying and pasting it here.

As a Testament main, I’m pretty excited about this. Don’t necessarily agree with the doom and gloom I’ve seen of them being bottom 3 right now, but they’re definitely hitting a few struggles. Easier conversions, the teleport mixup, bigger knockup from Arbiter Sign, all great changes.

In general, it looks like a decent patch. Maybe folks didn’t get what they wanted, but generally the characters who needed nerfs or buffs got them. Notable exceptions being Anji and I-No feeling a little nerfed (depends on their new special moves, I think), and Nago looking buffed kinda unnecessarily. Looking forward to how it all shakes out, though.

I feel like the UX/UI also needs a lot of work. Tooltips missing important information, an inability to see what future levels in a class/subclass grant me (making it much more difficult to make an informed decision there), I can't view the inventory/character sheets of companions not currently in my party, a lack of explanation on how things are calculated or what your proficiency bonus is/comes from, etc. Not even counting the numerous visual bugs in the UI, or how the UI just seems oddly sluggish at times for no discernible reason.

I'm genuinely loving a ton of the game. But interacting with the interface is a constant low level annoyance that pulls me out of the experience just a bit all the time and noticeably detracts from my enjoyment as a result.

It’s interesting to me that we could already see the signs of some of this just based on what they defined to break the VTT-specific rules of the OGL update, which was anything that had effects that made it too video-game-y. Showed they fundamentally misunderstood what VTTs are for and do six months ago, and it seems that hasn’t changed.
