An attempt was made to get people to come, I believe there was some miscommunication.

Purpose: To share pro-consumer products and service that truly have the forethought of the consumer first. Such as easy of use/setup, privacy & security, fair pricing and just generally good pro-consumer business practices. Goal: To develop a community that will host a list of products/services that you may be in the market for. Hopefully, it will make the buying decision a little easier and thus promoting actual great things. I am only one person, I don't have a bunch of free time but I will be working on putting together posts when possible. I find this mildly infuriating, I only use Windows for work, I even personally purchased Windows 11. Local account and disabled as much as I could. I personally do not like Windows or Windows in general. Well, now I do an update and they throw this up like I need to walk thru these steps (again). Not even a "Skip"/"Don't remind me again". Windows is not what it used to be and after disabling half the Microsoft stuff I'd expect not to be bothered again. I wanted to see what others are using and recommending. I'm looking at going over to a self-hosted NAS option primarily for backup but ideally to work off of too. I have only about 80GB of backups, only about 5GB are files I often use and access. I want to switch so I have full control over my data but would still plan to make encrypted containers to upload to cloud storage for redundancy. An option that does have some type of automatic sync/backup would be ideal, and it would be setup for local use only. I won't ever have to access it remotely. So far the best I've found would be something like "Synology DS220+". I originally considered setting up a local ubuntu server and use something like sftp for backup but its more time extensive and lacks added features. What's your recommendations? And if anyone knows of software to remove duplicates, it'd save me maybe 20GB of storage. Thanks!

For years now Verizon has been locking bootloaders preventing custom ROMs from being used, most commonly the Google Pixel where if purchased from Google it's unlocked but from a carrier (Verizon especially) it's been labeled impossible. Over 3yrs later and the attempt is still a failure.

I know its new, so am I to lemmy, but I was curious if there is any plans to release Sync Ultra outside of the Play Store. The features sound awesome and want to support lemmy but not everyone has Google Play/iOS. An option like threema has to buy a license key and download the .apk would be ideal and I'd be all aboard!

I'm so glad to see Proton on lemmy! Hello! Just wanted to add some activity here and explain why and how I use Proton. I've used Proton for years now but unfortunately never locked into the visionary plan when I could :( - **Email:** Not only advanced security options but multi email support that is seamless. The filtering and interface is absolutely great compared to other options. Even the free version is better, just wish it had more storage. - **Drive:** For backups and easily sharing files, recently the windows app came out so now I can access my PC files (securely) which is great but really wish there was a linux app too. But makes it super easy and much better than using Google Drive. For example I share a folder with a client and they can access the project files in virtually real-time. - **VPN:** Although, I've seen my fair share of hate on it, it's better than using nothing and it's maintained my a top notch company. The Anti-ad/tracking/malware works great! With always on set, I often forget I'm even using a VPN. And at least now I know my ISP isn't snooping, always encrypted and it's added privacy! - **Pass:** The newest service! It's really great, way better than the browser autofill I, and many others, typically use. I've completely swapped over to it. I wish you didn't ever have to access SimpleLogin for things but it's very new. I not only daily use notes but all my 2FA is setup thru it as well. Weather it be mobile or browser extension it's very stable! Calendar is another great addition, I do use it for recurring reminders but I'm still stuck in 1990 using paper planners ☠️ With the new family plan, it's so much more affordable and I've been able to swap family over to the service as the free plan of only 500mb (1GB after steps) just isn't enough and paying for it has been the barrier. Considering I use it for hours every day for work and personal, it's been invaluable and I've never had any issues. I don't get any spam, my filters always work, it's clean and organized! **Highly recommended!**

Just started here on lemmy, taking a look around and what's here. I don't see this area is used - at least recently. However, I do love Google Pixel. I have both a 7 Pro (Stock OS) and 7a with GraphineOS. The main thing that got me to switch to Pixel from an iPhone 13 Pro Max was the hardware and software like 12GB ram on 7 Pro, the processor for mobile gaming, the call screening on all pixel devices, call hold etc. Super useful!
