Make a backup, but yes. The new DynamicFPS mod from Chucksfeedandseed is a game changer, allows resolution to be scaled natively as opposed to using the Yuzu scaler. Way, way better image quality and fixes issues like the Sky Islands being weird.

Ornstein and Smough on the 1.0 version of Dark Souls in 2011 when I was very bad at Dark Souls and video games in general. In the DLC Hawkeye Gough has some line about how hunting the dragons teased out his dearest emotions and that's truly how I felt about my O&S experience. They kicked the ever loving shit out of me so many times. I remember finally scoring the kill in spite of the controller nearly falling out of my hands due to sweat at like 4 AM. Reacted a bit too loud, woke up my girlfriend (now wife haha). Just one of those moments that I will always remember.
Besides that, mostly all the Destiny raids haha. The Day 1 raiding experience in Destiny is just such a unique and awesome thing. Nothing quite like problem solving with a group of friends. Deep Stone Crypt is probably the most memorable of such experienced to me, first time the group I play with tried a Day 1 raid and completing it just gave me such a crazy high.

I've played Lies of P Demo recently, and it's quite fun and somehow it feels like a Bloodborne inspired game. Everyone is saying that too. Did anyone here play it too?

It's quite good. Definitely referential, but it has enough wiggle with some of the thematic stuff that it can get away with it. Will be cool to see where the stuff with "feeling springs reacting" leads to.
Gameplay felt more than serviceable but not quite on the level of a From Software title in the slice we played. More than good enough though. Excited for the full release.

Tons of great ones this year
Resident Evil 4 Remake was a real highlight for me, just a stellar way to revisit what I consider to be one of the best games of all time.
Haven't finished it, but Tears of the Kingdom seems like it's on its way to be a historically significant game and deserves the praise.
Jedi Survivor is a favorite for me. Really good review scores, but it ticks a lot of the right boxes for my personal taste and elevates it even higher. Technical issues aside, thought it was a far better game than Fallen Order.
Diablo 4 is also a lot of fun but I'm undecided as to how I feel about the endgame. As a campaign experience right up there though.

Really vivid memories of going Christmas shopping with my mother and getting Final Fantasy X with the strategy guide as an early gift when I was young. I think it had just released and it was all over the magazines I was subscribed to (shoutout Gamepro haha). Was super engrossed with it during that break. I always interested in RPGs, but I was at just the right age to really start enjoying them a lot more when that game came out. Was a really awesome, memorable winter break.
...on a more duderbo note, my high school friends and I would stay up ungodly hours and drink waaaaay too many Five Hour energy shots playing Halo 3 and later Reach. Undoubtably unhealthy, but very good times.

Yeah even as someone who loves those types of games it's definitely a thing that's beginning to impose itself on the space a bit too much at this point. This looks fresh compared to how most third person RPGs are these days.

Feels like this has been a little bit slept on. Looks promising! Decent pedigree from the devs having done the first Lords of the Fallen and The Surge series. Looks to be moving away from the Soulslike direction their recent titles have taken and more towards a more conventional action RPG. Movement looks cool!

The KOTOR series is the easy answer here for me, just wonderful games. BioWare was truly on top of their game for the first KOTOR and I really appreciated a lot about what KOTOR II was trying to do. One day I'll do a play through with all the cut content, that's been on my list for a good bit.
I'm big on the Souls games and Metroidvania type titles, so the Fallen Order games really hit a wonderful sweet spot for me. Really enjoyed Jedi Survivor recently.

Wendigo this week! I did something like....120 Warden of Nothings with the meta uncertainty because of the imminent grenade launcher buff. Ended up with several I was happy with, so I can sit this one out pretty comfortably haha.

There's a comfy niche for Intel selling $200-350 GPUs. Glad to hear things have turned around for them some. Remember hearing that Intel was canning these things before they even launched/directly after launch and that would have been such a tragedy.
It's been a bit of time. What are peoples overall thoughts about the new dungeon? **Disclaimer I only have two clears** but I thought it was....mostly excellent really. The past year has been really rough for me in terms of raid/dungeon content. Neither Spire of the Watcher or Root of Nightmares really hit for me for a variety of reasons. Went into Ghosts expecting it to be a trend that continued, but walked away super impressed. The scale of it all was super impressive and I loved seeing a new style of environment delivered in the unique palette Destiny uses. The mechanic itself was pretty simple, but the way they dressed it up worked pretty well. ...only real complaint about it that I have is that the first encounter drags a little bit. If it ended one cycle early it would feel a lot better IMO.

Yeah, it's holding up pretty well for me too. I'll likely buy a new card next gen though, I have the 10 GB version and the VRAM stuff is getting crazy and seems like it will get worse before it gets better.
What's everyone on /m/gaming playing lately? I'm still making my way through the Diablo IV campaign, really enjoying that but looking forward to blasting and figuring out if I enjoy the endgame more than anything at this point. I'm a binge Path of Exile player but the past few leagues haven't really done it for me. It's been nice to play an ARPG again and I'm enjoying D4's slower pace. Zoom zoom is great in POE, but it's nice to get back to basics a little bit. Went with Whirlwind Barbarian. Know it's meta, but Cyclone Slayer is my favorite POE build so I'm just trying to enjoy my time as the overpowered class rather than fighting it haha. Played through the Lies of P demo as well and thought it was mostly great. Not the greatest example of gameplay for the genre IMO, but the production values and the vibe were stellar. How about you guys?

Strider is great. Assassin is just so powerful and fun to play when you get it though, really best of all worlds IMO.
...honestly every class in Dragon's Dogma is super fun haha. Some really unique stuff too like Magic Archer. They're masterworks all. You can't go wrong.

I'm a longtime POE player but for whatever reason I've found it harder and harder to get excited about new seasons. Hopefully POE 2 is a shot in the arm for me. Willing to bet it will be :) When POE is hitting, there's really nothing like it.

For me, Pokemon has become more about romhacks/fangames than official releases. I still love the property, but the product Nintendo is providing at this point just isn't something I'm all that interested in.
...although credit where credit is due, Legends Arceus and Scarlett/Violet did attempt to innovate with the open world stuff. The results of that were also...not for me, but credit there.

...if that sort of magazine would generate more engagement right now I would be happy to consider changing it over though! I would probably prefer to give it up or get another moderator who does as I don't know much about the guy haha.

I really like the direction and vibe here far better than what's going on with Lemmy. Beehaw seems to have less skeletons in their closet, but it's hard for me not to be turned off of Lemmy instances as a whole with some of the issues. Beehaw is also limiting community creation at the moment which I totally understand their perspective on but makes it less useful in terms of what I am personally looking for.
I think Lemmy is ready for the moment that's happening right now but I have a hard time seeing it as a solution with some of the things lingering under the surface.
....been through some situations like this before with platforms/communities ending and I really think the best thing we can do is be the change we want to see. Create and use magazines on kbin. Engage with people and be part of building things up as opposed to waiting for others to do it. As a non-dev, that's really all we can do. It's also something that can make a big impact.

Sad that this isn't playable :( Final Fantasy IX will always hold a special place in my heart, definitely my favorite PS1 Final Fantasy game and that's saying a lot. Supposedly Square Enix is working on their own Final Fantasy IX remake though. Will be interesting to see how it stacks up to this! Really impressed at how well this capture the vibe of FF IX.
Makes total sense given what's happening with Marathon...but that's going to take some adjustment haha. TWID doesn't quite roll off the tongue as well as TWAB either haha.
