There was one user in some of the LW posts that blew up recently who was so annoyingly wrong in the most pedantic manner, but they were also prolific. It's exhausting disproving wave after wave of BS. It always takes more effort to show why something makes no sense than to say something that makes no sense.

I think what stands out to me is the growing use of legislative power to stop strikes and remove negotiating power from unions. The most recent major example being the then pending rail strike back in 2022.
Sure Trump will be 10x worse, but the Dems really haven't done enough to address the health and safety of these people, and to protect them from growing corporate exploitation.

Just to be clear, this is a matter of workplace policy, so relating to the law, but not of the law. But yes, it would be prudent to know the policies of your workplace, and doubly so if you're a goddamned judge.

Not to underplay the craziness of this, but I'd assumed from the headline it meant annually, but it's actually current active deals over the period of 2011-2030:
the study highlighted 205 active deals over a period starting in 2011 — with some deals scheduled to last until 2030
Of course that leaves out any future deal that'll be made in the that period.
It definitely would've been nice if they'd given us what they're spending in an average year.

Out of curiosity, what would stop these unions from just striking illegally anyways? Seems like at some point, it'll be the only way forward if these co's keep turning to binding arbitration.

Cannon had filed the Sage Lodge trips with the federal judiciary’s administrative office but had “inadvertently” not taken the second step of posting them on the court’s website. [The clerk] explained that “Judges often do not realize they must input the information twice."
Seems like a bad system. Why not just have it be done automatically, or have the clerk do it. Presumably the judge's time is going to be more costly than the clerk's.
It almost seems intentionally bad so these little oopsies can keep happening.

And the corn flour did irreperable harm to the lichen on the stones, but climate change certainly won't. Wahh.

Tell that to East Palestine. Train derailments are on the rise because of lax safety measures, and this was one of the issues that the workers were trying to resolve. Instead Biden had congress force them back to work.

I'd imagine you could run a VNC server, and then just login from the same PC. This kinda what you're looking for?
There are some limitations, like I don't think hardware acceleration would work, for example.
Edit: I did a little searching for "nested x-session" and found out that there is a specific x11 program to do exactly what you want called xephyr. There's also a brief guide on the arch wiki.

Yeah. As much as I dislike dogmatism, and vegans eating bivalves bothers me very little, I think there is an actual slippery slope issue here. If you accept that maybe some animals are OK to consume, how and where do you then set an arbitrary line?
Enkers 1 week ago • 83%
This isn't quite as black and white as you make it out to be. Severity is an issue here. If you apply the same concept to human life, a similar argument would quickly fall apart. (Oh it was just one human life, so it's OK, you don't kill anyone 99.9999% of the time.)
I personally think that whom you kill and for what reason matters greatly. If you accidentally step on a bug, that's not the same as intentionally killing a rodent, which is not the same as intentionally torturing monkey. Just how killing in humans, intent and state of mind matters, so it does with animals.
I'm not saying that your conclusion is wrong, by the way, just that the reasoning by which you've arrived at it is suspect.

Honestly, bivalves were the last thing I gave up before becoming fully vegan, even after dairy and eggs, mainly, as you've pointed out, due to their very simple CNS. I found the "we don't know yet, and it's better to be safe" argument, as well as the fear of being purity checked by other vegans, convincing enough to stop eating them. Being vegan already makes you a bit of a social pariah, so I don't need the trouble from both sides.
However, I personally believe that sentience and consciousness exist on a spectrum which is also roughly correlated to CNS complexity. That spectrum dictates how much a living thing is capable of suffering, and hence how much moral consideration they should be afforded.
"Vegans" eating bivalves is so incredibly low on my list of things I care about, it might as well be nonexistent. Let anyone who only eats produce from a veganic farm throw the first insult.

I wonder if that's because most of its value is predicated on him being able to gain an unfair advantage due to his potential position in office.
If so, then this is probably a more accurate indicator of his chances in the election than any pollsters.

Not the person you're arguing with, but just to be clear, in the US, life sentences are either determinate or indeterminate. The former are for the remainder of natural life. The latter typically have a fixed part (25/30 years, in this case) after which parole is possible for early release, but can extend up to the remainder of natural life.
So when we say "multiple life sentences" it doesn't mean sentencing for the duration of a multiple of their remaining natural life, it means that there are multiple sentences that have the possibility of life imprisonment.
Edit: I see what you're saying. In this case, these were both fixed sentences, not indeterminate life sentences.

Sorry, that embellishment (?) was probably mine; I guess I meant to say "really cold". And it is really cold, but it's also a very good insulator.
Actually, thinking about it, it really is freezing, isn't it? If you took some liquid water and just let it out into space, wouldn't it eventually freeze? It'd just take a really long time.

This always makes me wonder: When they say space is a frozen vacuum, it wouldn't actually feel nearly as cold as it is, right? Because there's no matter to actually take that heat away from you.
The big issue is the pressure, and you'd balloon up like a blob fish out of its depth. But would it feel cold for the few instants you'd have?

Y'know what, I'm going to actually address your post on the merits, against my better judgement. (Against my better judgement, because I suspect you're going to try and suck me in to a time wasting debate on semantics.)
The lie in your meme is the framing. You've set up two things that may well be true, but you've framed it in such a way to imply equivalency between the two candidates. If you simply wanted to point out Harris's or her supporter's hypocrisy, there was no point to bring Trump into it.

Decent video, but regarding your comment, I'm not sure exactly how long each stop takes, or how much a fully kitted police officer's time costs, but I'd be willing to wager that 10 million $1 stops would lose them an awful lot of money.
It does make me wonder what the average net and gross profit are per car stopped, though.

Yeah, we need to be asking what the purpose of trying the child in question as an adult here is:
Rehabilitation - I think the juvenile system would probably be better suited for this purpose, so no.
Deterrence - I don't think the knowledge that they might be tried as an adult has much bearing on their decision to commit the crime. I'd be willing to wager that people who do this sort of thing don't much care what the consequences are. They've given up on themselves and their own lives.
Removal - This strikes me as the main motivator. If the system has no way to rehabilitate, and recidivism is likely, then what other option is there?
Retribution - As much as the US loves its retribution, usually it's less keen to enact it on children. I'm sure some people would be happy about this aspect though.
Retaliation - I'll let y'all judge off of the tone of the rest of the comments for this one.

Ultimately, veganism relies on personal decisions of morality. It's not fully prescriptive and leaves room for differing opinions. The question here is whether or not the relationship is exploitative.
This leaves some room for nuance. There's a difference between purchasing a pet from a breeder, which adds further demand, and adopting an animal that would otherwise be euthanized, for example.

A based rat is fine too.
I was going to make pizza on Friday, but I messed up when stretching my dough, and it seized up, so I had to rest it and re-rise, and so change of plans! I had left over curry and just made the tofu cutlets by shallow frying in a small pan to minimize oil usage. As always, any questions or feedback welcome, and happy to provide recipes if anyone wants them! \^_\^
I happened across some store bought vegan pepperoni, and decided I'd do one of the most simple pizzas in existance: the NY style pepperoni pizza. It totally wasn't because I was lazy and it takes like almost zero effort. My dough caught on the peel as I was shimmying it on to the griddle, so I kinda got this weird teardrop-shaped pizza. Oh well. (: There's really just something very comforting about a basic-ass slice like this. It's not fancy or pretentious, just delicious.
So I've decided to make pizza every Friday this summer. This is \#3, but I declined to post the first two because they contained a slightly controversial brand plant based meat substitute. This one has **vegan blue cheese, caramelized onions, button mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, balsamic reduction and pear slices**. I meant to add a bit of arugula, but I forgot. A little fresh basil probably would have been good too. Oh yeah, I was going to have it last night (y'know, on Friday like I said) but some stuff came up so I had to delay a night. Feel free to ask for any recipes or whatever! I generally follow Adam Ragusa's NY style pizza recipe, but he's not vegan so if you don't want to give him additional traffic, I can probably answer any questions you might have. **If you have any suggestions for my next pizza, I'd love to hear it! \^\^**
I've been learning to cook all sorts of Indian recipes lately. The samosa are store bought, cuz who has time for that. Everything else is made from scratch. I'll probably get around to makeing my own samosas too, some day. Will post recipes if anyone is interested. ^^
A riff on the classic NY style pizza. Obviously with all the extra toppings, and a cheddar style "cheese", it's not in any way accurate, but it's what I happened to have on hand. Dough & Sauce: * Adam Ragusea's [NY Style Pizza v2](https://youtu.be/SDpCzJw2xm4) [Content Warning: recipe is not fully vegan. It contains cow milk.] "Cheese": * Smoked cheddar style vegan grating block Toppings: * Red onion, mushroom, vegan sausage, fresh basil
