Check out Spaceinvader One on YT, he alone is all you need when it comes to everything and anything unraid.
BlovedMadman 8 months ago • 100%
Its all consumer hardware but it's a dedicated box running unraid.
- I3 12100
- 16GB DDR4 ram
- LSI raid card
- Case that allows for lots of 3.5inch drives

Ita easy to do in unraid, you set it up per share, so say you have a "media" share you can change the settings to include a cache drive and then set it to write to the cache drive first and then more to array. If you don't have a cache drive or want to add a other you can do that by installing the ssd, booting up, stopping the array and adding in a new cache drive (you can add it to your existing cache pool to increase its size or create a new one and keep them separate for separate uses)
BlovedMadman 8 months ago • 100%
I use unraid with 5x8TB drives, 1tb ssd as a cache drive for new transfers (writing to an ssd is faster, it then moves to the array after) 500GB NVME drive for appdata and applications and a 250GB ssd for VMs and ISOs

I never made such a comment. Gaming, for me is a big reason why I only have windows installed on my PC (and adobe) there are games which work on Linux (either natively or with Proton) but some games I play, don't. Theres no point in me dual booting as, let's be honest, dual booting just adds more steps and overcomplicates things. I use Linux on my laptop as the alternatives I use (Darktable and Kdenlive) are more than good enough for when I'm on my laptop (its not exactly a powerhouse) but when I'm on my desktop I want to use Lightroom, Photoshop and DaVinci Resolve as they are more refined and fit my workflow better.
Unraid on my server is just because its exactly what I need.

Not sure about your life, but I don't count things I enjoy as "work" especially when its not work. I enjoy using Linux, I enjoy my home lab why should I need to justify it when it brings me joy? Linux works for me and my workflow, just because it doesn't work for yours, don't try to shit on other people.
BlovedMadman 8 months ago • 100%
There are alternatives to these so it depends on the user. If your workflow requires these, then that's in you.

Like what, what format would this be? Regardless every company I have ever worked for issue me a laptop with windows anyway, so why would the OS I choose to use on hardware I own be a factor for work? Even then, if they didn't I don't know of any format that I would need that would be an issue.

Well in that case; My windows PC falls back to a server running Linux as that's where all my files are, where my docker containers and VMs all run off.. I can spin up a new PC in minutes (windows or Linux) as everything is done off the server, including staging my devices.

Windows only app... Name one that is actually useful and I bet there is an alternative.
BlovedMadman 8 months ago • 100%
I don't need it for windows applications, its basically something I can use for light photo and video editing and uploading to my server, all the heavy lifting is done on my PC which has windows because of adobe and better support for X264 and X265 when video editing.

I had the Pixel 5 with GOS, and the camera on that was awful, the google camera app did all the heavy lifting to make it good. I now have the Pixel 8 with GOS and the camera quality of the grapheme camera app vs the google camera is much closer, but the google camera app is better. I use it with all permissions removed apart from storage.

I use Kick Back Coffee (in the UK) I have used them for about 6 months, but recently I have switched to try out Origin Coffee (also UK) on their weekly subscription, so far (3 weeks in) I'm enjoying it very much, I still go to Kick Back Coffee, but as they are local, I pop in and get it in person.

Not in this tank, I do currently have a bit of a bloom going on as I have just put in fish and used quick start. On my other thank, it does seem to have a but of a brown/orange tinge to it, but unsure if its the wood, or due to the orange/white/brown substrate is just making it look like it.

I've picked up 6 Cardinal Tetras and also migrated 3 coral platty's over, thinking of getting a couple Pleco's too.
Cleaned up a fish shop 60L tank and did my first aquascape with river rocks, wood and plants.

It has seemingly gone away now I have swapped the SATA cable (connector P3) on my LSI card. Is this typical for a faulty connection?
The drives passes all SMART checks and has nothing flagging as a warning or fault, yet when I do a read test, I get all the errors.

Yea, it is, it was an amazing shop. No idea why they were selling up, but they seemed pleased that they were able to move all the tanks on, they thought they would have to smash then all and get them in a skip.

Always take precautions, there are no waters that are truly safe for a pirate.
My local aquatic centre (Bert and Ernies in Stockport) was shutting down, only found out when I went in, I only wanted some plants as I want to get into planted tanks. Turns out they were selling everything and only had tanks left, I got there just after someone had bought the lot. But I was able to get this 60L for £5.

You would only likely get caught if you either do something stupid or someone tells Microsoft or Adobe with evidence, even then, the process to grass on them is a ballache, so if someone does actually take the time to do it, then you must have pissed them off so bad you might deserve it.
Why not use FOSS alternatives, or at least say you do?
If your stealing assets and IP, its just a matter of when you get caught, not if.

Nope, I never use contactless payments, or even google wallet so I don't even notice its gone.
I lost a couple of AI features, but I'm not that bothered about AI wallpaper generation, it was a bit of a gimmic anyway.
I had GrapheneOS on my Pixel 5 too and that saw a good battery life improvement once I finally installed GOS.

I have a Pixel 8 with GrapheneOS. No complains from me, battery lasts a couple of days. Phone does what it needs. Camera is amazing for a point and shoot.
Would recommend.

Monsgeek M1 with Boba U4T switches, great for long typing sessions and for gaming. I have 45g springs as a lighter spring makes the bump more deifned.

You still have the benefit of Google not having unrestricted access to all corners of the device. You can still install google apps and then lock them down to only have access to what is required.

Sorry, I mean contactless payments
"You can use all the other features of Google Pay on GrapheneOS, just not NFC contactless card payments. It's unlikely that will change. You can make NFC contactless card payments through your bank's app, if they happen to provide their own implementation, as opposed to relying on Google Pay."

Its insanely easy, the hardest part is putting the phone into fastboot and installing the USB drivers on windows. Then its just click buttons on the WebUI and pressing the buttons you're told to. The whole process takes about 10 mins.
Check out some YouTube videos on it, its the same process for any pixel (its also the same process for CalyxOS if you want microG)

I've never bothered with alternative launchers, I tired one once and it drained my battery so quick I removed it.

Oh, they are just a bonus, I've not used stock google in years and its just something I didn't like since using the phone.
Plus when it cones to alternative OS, there is only Graphene and Calyx as you can still have a locked bootloader after install.

I like the Spidgen liquid air, I had it on my Pixel 5 and now I have one on my Pixel 8
GrapheneOS is such a staple for me now. Been waiting for it to be released for the Pixel 8 since I got the phone at launch... it doesn't have the annoying search bar or the unmovable widget telling you the weather... Regardless of the security and privacy it offers... And its just pretty.

Appdata, isos, system and domains are the only things on the Cache drive, mover has been run and there is nothing on the cache drive that shouldn't be. I only have 1 docker installed currently (plex) and no VMs or ISOs downloaded or(no VMs). I have tried to delete old files that docker apps left behind, but some of the folders won't delete. ( I also have a share thsts empty but there are folders I can't delete (no files in them that I can see) and therfor can't remove the share) I'm at a point where I want to restart my server from scratch, but don't want to loose the data on the drives in the array, can this be done? And if so, how?

Here are all my keebs. From oldest to newest: * TM680 - Case foam, tape mod, wheel weights, foam in all the places. MMD Holy Panda Switches and Pudding keycaps - this was the first custom keyboard I got, its had all the switches and keycaps you can see in this picture are some point in time, I have used this for 2 years up until only recently. * Teater68 - got this as something to experiment with and also somewhere put the Gayeron Milky Yellow switches when I upgraded to the Gazzew Boba switches, this was used as a WFH keyboard. - this has had all the mods plus a internal battery with USB C charging added. Will have the Gateron Milky Yellows put back on and then I will pick up some white keycaps just to finish this off again. * Feker JJK21 - I missed the numpad so I picked this up, it has the tape mod and that's it. It started its life out as white as it was £20 cheaper than the black one, so I spray painted it black to match the TM680 and now the Monsgeek M1. Its got Holy Tom V2 switches and Gentleman XDA V2 keycaps. * Monsgeek M1 - I wanted something fancy and made of metal, so I got this, its had the tape mod done and that's it. Its got Gazzew Boba U4T switches (68g springs) and Gentleman XDA V2 keycaps. * GMK67 - impulse buy as it was £26 delivered. It will be getting MMD Princess Tactile switches when they arrive, it currently has Gateron Milky Yellow switches and Honey Milk XDA keycaps. * Switch tester has a bunch of all different switches, looks cool. Thanks for reading.

It has come to my attention that everything that I tinker with, ends up with purple... Monsgeek M1 with Boba U4T's 68g springs, Gentleman XDA v2 keycaps. Tape mod and force break mod, all stabs and switches lubed.
From top to bottom: - Monsgeek M1 - Boba U4T switches with 67g springs - Gentleman XDA V2 Keycaps = This is the Daily - TM680 - MMD Holy Panda switches - Pudding Keycaps = This is for work - Tester68 - Gateron Milky Yellow Switches - Honey Milk keycaps = This is now my partners keyboard (Although its just been placed on her desk, we will have to see if its gets used) All of these have been lubed, tape modded, the TM680 and Tester68 have wheel weights and case foam to make the keyboard heavier and feel less hollow.

256gb SD card in iflash.xyz adapter, purple iPod classic click wheel.
Milk in first then slowly press down on the areo press to get this look. This might already be a thing, but im having fun regardless.
256gb iflash card with SD card and iPod classic click wheel.
256gb mod and iPod classic click wheel mod.
Areo press is my goto brewing method, with the V60 being second. I had to replace the coffee grinder as the Krups one stooped working, this one is nothing fancy, but it grinds the coffee much better causing me to enjoy coffee more thab ever.
All white shell with IPS drop in screen, aftermarket white cart with ez flash jr (and a crystal sticker to finish it off)
There are many like it, but this one is mine. (Merida Big Trail 500 - XL)
