By this I mean the merger of gov and corporations, which was the notable characteristic of Mussolini’s Italian form. “Lite” here is meant to indicate the despotism lacks the social violence against marginalized groups so evident in conservatives that is characteristic of fascism, also known as palingenetic ultranationalism.

Through decades of effort, by constructing an entire industry of influence in non profits like the Heritage Foundation, ALEC, Cato, Federalist Society, they generated theory (neoliberalism), then policy (GOP) and propaganda (Fox) that enabled them to capture gov. Bork’s anti trust doctrine is one example . Citizens United is another.🧵

GhostOnTheHalfShell@masto.ai - But that scheme set in motion is also the fundamental source of conservative extremism today. It is the ideological foundation of the GOP and is now woven into the owner class and upper management of their oligarchies.

They are intent on the full version of fascism, a nation run on the terrorism and full threat of violence for all dissent by making an example of out groups.
