Palia on Mac https://i.imgur.com/G6Uaqxal.jpg

When Palia released on Switch earlier this week, I had no idea it was also available on PC. I did some digging and found this launcher and guide for running Palia on Mac. So far I have been playing it most of the day without issue. Setup was just as easy as setup on Windows. https://github.com/DanMossa/paliaOnMac-release/releases

OpenMW 0.48.0 Released! gitlab.com

geteilt von: https://lemmy.ml/post/2333026 > After approximately 10 months in a release candidacy phase, OpenMW 0.48 has finally been released. A list of changes can be found in the link. > > > The OpenMW team is proud to announce the release of version 0.48.0 of our open-source engine! > > > > So what does another fruitful year of diligent work bring us this time? The two biggest improvements in this new version of OpenMW are the long-awaited post-processing shader framework and an early version of a brand-new Lua scripting API! Both of these features greatly expand what the engine can deliver in terms of visual fidelity and game logic. > > As usual, we've also solved numerous problems major and minor, particularly pertaining to the newly overhauled magic system and character animations. > > A full list of changes can be found in the link to Gitlab. > > ### What is OpenMW? > > "OpenMW is a free, open source, and modern engine which re-implements and extends the 2002 Gamebryo engine for the open-world role-playing game The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind." > > It is an excellent way to play Morrowind on modern systems, and on alternative systems other than MS Windows. It requires the a copy of the original game data from Morrowind, as OpenMW does not include assets or any other game data - it is simply a recreation of the game engine. OpenMW can be found on Flathub for Linux users here. https://flathub.org/apps/org.openmw.OpenMW

Choosing the right machine - questions

Hello everyone! My first post on Lemmy after long time lurker. I will buy a new mac in the next week. I’m quite torn between 2 models. My use case: General computing (web, documents, media consimption) Occasionally: programming + spinning VMs + some gaming Although I won’t be gaming all the time, I plan to do it ocasionally. Games like Skyrim, witcher3 + MMOs (wow, ff14 or guild wars) DOTA/LOL or similar stuff. The contenders would be: A) MacBook Pro 14 M1 Pro 10 core CPU / 16 core GPU - 16GB RAM - 1TB SSD - better cooling? - better SSD speeds and bigger capacity Price = 2450€ B) MacBook Pro 14 M2 pro 10 core CPU / 16 core GPU - 16GB RAM - 512GB SSD - better GPU, but marginal gain? Price = 2499€ Alternatively, I could look at the MacBook Air m2 with 16GB/512GB at 1990€ since it seems it handles this games moderately . However, summer here is hot Any advice? Furthermore, stocks seem to be low, some models no longer exist and there seems to be no deals Thanks in advance!!! Looking forward to discussion

What are the best settings to stream my macOS screen to my iPad via Steam Link?

I had to update to the beta branche of Steam, because when starting the Steam Link I got a pop up about installing audio drivers, but the window was unresponsive and switching to the beta branch fixed that issue. ([found in this post](https://old.reddit.com/r/macgaming/comments/oe5dnv/mac_mini_m1_streaming_to_ios/)) So now I got it working, but I get like 10 FPS, to fix this I’ve already tried: - Rebooting macOS and iPadOS - Making sure all software is up to date (macOS, iPadOS, Steam, Steam Link) - I'm going to try to have my laptop wired via a ethernet cable to see if that fixes the issue, but that isn't really a real solution at the moment I’m on a 5GHz network, with the Mac, iPad and access point all in the same room and with a direct line of sight to each other. I’ve also tried the build in macOS SideCar feature, but this keeps coming up with “Lost Connection” every 10 seconds. It seem something is causing interference on my network, but I can't figure out what or what setting to change where. As a side note, I just come from a year long game streaming service on which I’ve played a lot of games with a DualShock 4 controller connected to my iPad. When the service was working as it should I could stream games at 40mb/s with a decent resolution and a steady 60FPS and this was over the internet, so I would figure that streaming my Mac over the local network, would be no issue. Below all the settings I could think of sharing. # macOS side **MacBook Pro** - 16-inch, 2023 - Chip Apple M2 Pro - Memory 16 GB - macOS Ventura 13.4.1 **Steam** - **Steam Version:  1688171965 (Beta)** - Steam Client Build Date:  Sat, Jul 1 3:22 AM UTC -08:00 - Steam Web Build Date:  Sat, Jul 1 1:51 AM UTC -08:00 - Steam API Version:  SteamClient020 **Advanced streaming options** - Enable Advanced Host Options **ON** - Play audio on host **ON** - Change desktop resolution to match streaming client **ON** - Dynamically adjust capture resolution to improve performance **ON** - Use NVFBC capture on NVIDIA GPU **OFF** - Enable hardware encoding **OFF** - Enable hardware encoding on NVIDIA GPU **OFF** - Enable hardware encoding on AMD GPU **OFF** - Enable hardware encoding on Intel iGPU **OFF** - Number of software encoding threads **AUTOMATIC** - Prioritize network traffic **ON** - Enable Advanced Client Options **ON** - Video **Balanced** - Audio **Stereo** - Controller Overlay **Default Button** - Performance Overlay **Show Icons** - Bandwidth Limit **Automatic (recommended)** - Framerate Limit **Automatic (recommended** - Resolution Limit Display resolution **1920×1080 (1080p)** - Hardware Decoding **ON** # iPad OS side **iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (2nd generation)** iPadOS 16.5.1 **Steam link** **version 1.2.0** **Streaming Settings** - Video **Balanced ** - Audio **Stereo ** - Microphone **Disabled** - Input **Disabled** - Controller **Overlay Disabled** - Launch **Mode Desktop** - Bandwidth **Limit 30 MBit/S** (tried decreasing and automatic) - Framerate Limit **60 FPS** - Resolution Limit **1920×1080 (1080р)** - Performance **Overlay Show Details** - Hardware Decoding **Enabled** - HEVC Video **Enabled** (tried disabled) - Uncompressed Audio **Disabled** - Allow Direct Connection **Automatic (enabled)** **Performance overlay (written out here, see attached image)** - Slow network - Capture 1672×1080 @ 60.00 - Encoder: Desktop OSX N12 + libx264 main (4 threads) - Decoder: iOS Metal hardware decoding - Streaming Latency: <1ms input, 93.64ms display - Ping Time: 5.04ms (direct) - Incoming bitrate: 18701 kbit/s video: 15363 kbit/s - Outgoing bitrate: 117 kbit/s - Packet loss: 8.61% (49.16% frame 1055) - Press F8 to save snapshot on remote computer

firmament performance is disappointing

I have an M2 pro, 32gb of ram. It suffers from low frame rate... Pretty bad experience overall, for a native game. If this is foreshadowing what's ahead, that is disappointing! Anyone play? Any tips?

Just bought a Dualsense gamepad to play NMS on my M1 Air... can I use it for anything else?

I'd love to be able to use the controller to browse the web, etc; usually I have my hand resting on my mouse on my desk, but i've been developing tendon issues and having my hands in my lap would reduce the strain in my fingers when I'm passively reading or researching. I've tried adjusting the settings in Steam for "desktop layout", but moving the sticks and pressing buttons in chrome doesn't seem to do anything.

If you're running Frostpunk on an m1 chip, disable global illumination.

I tried playing this game on my m1 max and it was running pretty good, except for terrible frame drops whenever the temperature dropped. It went from 45fps to 10fps, for all of the time that the animation for temperature drop was playing. Found the only setting that caused this was global illumination. It is probably a game bug that can be fixed, but I don't think the devs will do it since they are focused on frostpunk 2.

In case you did not know, m1 macs can output 4k120hz with specific usb c to hdmi adapters and custom firmware. forums.macrumors.com

There's also official support from cable matters since a few weeks ago (seems they got the idea from the thread, which is much older): https://www.cablematters.com/Blog/HDMI/how-to-get-4k120hz-with-mac

M1 max vs M2 max gaming performance?

Does anyone have benchmarks on how much better m2 is at gaming? Specifically I'd like to see benchmarks for native games, and rosetta games like frostpunk, which seem to be cpu bound quite heavily. I have found lots of individual benchmarks, but no direct comparison.

Whisky 🥃 | A new app wrapping Apple's recently-announced Gaming Porting Kit to run your Windows games on Apple Silicon Macs.

You may have seen the WWDC news about [Apple's new Game Porting Kit ](https://www.tomsguide.com/news/apples-game-porting-toolkit-could-be-a-revolution-for-mac-gaming-heres-the-proof]), which among other things, can run Windows/DirectX 12 games, ostensibly to let developers test drive their games to encourage them to port to macOS. Fortunately for us, said tool is actually built on WINE/Crossover, Apple forked it and built a bunch of patches to map DirectX onto Metal. Introducing [Whisky, an open-source app that wraps the Game Porting Kit much like Crossover wraps WINE](https://github.com/IsaacMarovitz/Whisky), allowing you to run many Windows games that previously didn't work with such a setup. You need to be running the macOS Sonoma beta to actually use this. [Here's how to do that.](https://www.techradar.com/how-to/how-to-install-the-macos-14-sonoma-beta-on-your-mac)
