Probably a really obvious question, sorry. I've been using RFF's recommended app (RadioDroid2), but that's *all* I use that for, and generally I'd rather just use one app for music than two.
Anyone else use the android app? I use it for my car via Bluetooth. The app constantly crashes either on startup, or upon exiting voice input mode elsewhere, during playback. This is with Google speech to text enabled. Does the same thing with Samsung voice to text however, albeit less frequently.
Funkwhale has some issues handling artists, particularly in classical music. I love the idea of Funkwhale, and I have been trying it out for a little while now. I've tried uploading Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2, but I stumbled across a few issues, particularly regarding artists. The first thing that I noticed was that artists separated by commas get merged into one "artist". In my case, "Sviatoslav Richter, Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra" was registered as one single person. I'm guessing there is some workaround for this, but since comma separation is a widely used format, you're bound to get a lot of double artists. Another thing I noticed was that composers and conductors don't get registered as artists. That is quite annoying, because the composer is the one you care the most about in classical music. Even when I go into the track details, I see no Sergei Rachmaninov or Stanisław Wisłocki, even though they're clearly tagged in the files. Then, a smaller issue is different spellings for the same name: JS Bach and Johann Sebastian Bach are shown as two different artists. I understand that it is difficult to prevent given the decentralised nature of Funkwhale, but some form of reminder to keep it to some standard would be nice (perhaps the one used on Discogs). Overall, Funkwhale is a great idea and I am going to use the hell out of it, but it needs some standarisation and support for multiple contributors. It went down maybe about a month ago or so, and I haven't heard anything about what might've happened to it. I'm bummed because that's been my main way of listening to music for a while now.
I just discovered this initiative and network and it seems absolutely phenomenal! :) A few suggestions: - Please add comments! - Please add likes! - Please add integration with Mastodon! - Is it possible for an artist to have a payment system akin to itch's one? - Can an artist add ads on their page maybe?

I don't know much about this stuff, first of all... maybe this is well trodden territory already and I just missed it. Sorry if that's the case! I'm a relatively new FunkWhale user, but it has completely replaced all other music streaming for me. I'm wondering about the potential for decentralized, federated music streaming to mitigate the environmental issues we're seeing with mainstream streaming. Like... - Potentially we could all be streaming from locations much physically closer to us, if that matters. - FunkWhale hosts might be much more inclined to operate off of solar than the big businesses are. - We might all be using the latest (opus I guess?) in efficient file formats, i.e. low file size, easy to decode, etc. - I'm vaguely aware that huge data centers waste massive amounts of water, right? As someone who doesn't really understand this stuff, it seems to me like distributed streaming would require much less extreme methods of cooling/maintenance/etc. Then again, supposedly there are efficiency advantages to being centralized in other contexts. That seems to be peoples first and foremost argument *for* centralization in most contexts. Do those apply here as well? Thank you for your time, and your patience with a noobie. 😅

Is funkwhale app and other subsonic apps only showing music from albums? I'm asking because my singles are not showing up.
Is there supposed to be a list of publicly available pods on https://funkwhale.audio/ ? The list seems empty. The only list of Funkwhale pods I've ever seen is on the dashboard https://network.funkwhale.audio/dashboards
